Mu Jingxi held her in his arms, gently patting her back, and his thin lips slightly parted near her ear, "Don't be afraid, I'm with you."
Qiao An looked at him bewilderedly until she was held in his embrace, only then did she begin to feel a trace of warmth and safety.
Clinging tightly to his pajama shirt with both hands, Qiao An was stiff all over.
The nightmare was too real...
So real that it made her heart tremble with fear.
Fear shadowed her like a constant presence, coiling around her heart, unable to be dispersed.
"That was just a nightmare, don't be scared," Mu Jingxi soothed her gently as he continued to pat her back.
It took half an hour of being held before Qiao An slowly let out a breath and moved away from his embrace.
"You should rest," she said weakly, ready to lie down.
Mu Jingxi gripped her wrist, and Qiao An, not understanding why, looked up at him.
The eyes that once shimmered like sunlit water were now bleak with endless despair.
