Dead silence.
A dead silence enveloped the woods, not a bird sang.
Perched on a tree branch, Kitty yawned and glanced around. Occasionally, she peered down at Marvin, lying in the snow. He was drawing the snow around him together to form several snowballs the size of a human head.
Biding time is a tactic, but the selection process is timed; you must score within an hour or be deemed a loss. This rule prevents contestants from just finding a place to hide and waiting until time runs out.
After making a few snowballs, Marvin took off his hat, shed his coat and vest, swiftly crafting two decoys: one with a hat, the other hunchbacked.
Besides his pants, Marvin was left in nothing but a simple white shirt – a means of camouflage to reduce his presence as much as possible.
He forked up snowballs on a branch and cautiously poked out over the slope. The previously silent woods erupted with three gunshots, and bullets fired from the dark pierced the hat in an instant.
