Chapter 4 - File C: “Character”

As Sunny, Kel, and Basil continued their walk, Kel glanced at Sunny with a grin. "Ah, those hooligans? They're just a bunch of troublemakers from around town. Nothing too serious, though Aubrey seems to have taken a liking to them for some reason."

Basil nodded in agreement, adjusting his floral hair clip on his blonde hair. "Yes, Aubrey's new friends are quite the lively bunch. It's interesting to see her socializing with different people."

Sunny furrowed his brows. "But why is she mad when she looks at your Photo Album, Basil? Did something happen?"

Basil hesitated for a moment before replying, "Oh, it's nothing, really. Just some memories that might not sit well with her. You know how emotions can be unpredictable sometimes."

Kel chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "Yeah, don't worry too much about it, Sunny. Let's focus on enjoying our walk for now."

They continued their stroll, the conversation shifting to lighter topics as they admired the scenery around them. Sunny couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to Aubrey's behavior and the hooligans than meets the eye, but for now, he decided to enjoy the company of his friends and the tranquility of the moment.

Sunny then groans "Ohh no, Is it a bad idea I suggest that I lend some snacks for Aubrey and the Hooligans despite lack of money?" As Kel sighs with a caring tone "See? Sunny you sure you don't need my help or Basil's?"

Sunny chuckled nervously, scratching his head. "Maybe it wasn't the best idea after all. I guess I got carried away thinking it might help."

Kel's caring tone softened further. "Hey, don't worry about it too much, Sunny. We're here for you, remember? If you ever need help or someone to talk to, just let us know."

Basil nodded in agreement, adjusting his photo album. "That's right. We're all in this together, so don't hesitate to ask for assistance whenever you need it."

Sunny smiled gratefully at his friends' support. "Thanks, guys. I'll keep that in mind. Let's just enjoy the rest of our walk today."

They went to the faraway supermarket. As Sunny frowns "Kel... Basil, you still haven't mentioned each name of every Hooligan" Then both Kel and Basil look at each other as they stop near the supermarket with Sunny.

Kel cleared his throat, starting the explanation. "Alright, so Kim is the one with the glasses, always fixated on her studies. Vance is a tall guy, into candy as snacks, and quite competitive besides being Kim's brother. Angel is the reckless and picking-fights sorta guy, always wanting to challenge strong people. Charlene is the wallflower type, often lost in her world. And finally, The Maverick is the annoying one, always coming up with unexpected dramatic actions."

Basil added, "And as for Aubrey, she's like the glue that holds them all together, their leader in a way."

Sunny nodded, trying to remember each description. "Got it. Thanks for filling me in, guys. It's interesting to know more about them."

Then he pauses. Sunny squinted one of his dreamworld memories as Omori and thought before saying"Wait isn't Maverick that honey-blonde guy earlier with the other hooligans? Why does it feel like he is one of our old classmates Mikhael?"

Sunny's observation triggered a memory, causing him to recall a resemblance between The Maverick and an old classmate named Mikhal. He couldn't shake off the feeling of familiarity, as if there was a connection between the two.

Kel raised an eyebrow. "Mikhael? Do you mean that guy from our middle school days? The one with the wavy-curly black hair who was always causing trouble?"

Basil chimed in, "Hmm, it's possible. People can change a lot over the years, so it wouldn't be surprising if The Maverick turned out to be someone we used to know."

Sunny nodded thoughtfully, his mind still processing the connection. "Yeah, exactly. I'll keep an eye out and see if there are more similarities."

With that, they continued their walk towards the supermarket, the mystery of The Maverick lingering in Sunny's mind.

They both chuckle. As Sunny got confused and cutely pouted crossing his arms "Why do you both seem laughing at my observation?"

Kel grinned, his playful nature evident. "Oh, come on, Sunny. It's just interesting how your mind connects the dots. Who knows, maybe there's more to this Mikhal-Maverick connection than meets the eye."

Basil nodded in agreement. "Exactly! Your observations are always intriguing, Sunny. It shows how much you pay attention to details."

Sunny blushed at their praise, a small smile forming. "Well, I guess I can't help but notice things. Let's see if this Mikhal-Maverick theory unfolds into something more."

With their curiosity piqued, they entered the supermarket, ready for both groceries and perhaps some unexpected revelations.

Then, Aubrey tapped Sunny's shoulder which made Sunny jump and accidentally pull out his cutter out of nowhere. As Aubrey dodged a bit worried as she angrily spoke "Oh hey!!! Sunny!!! You three finally come along so…You sure Sunny you're not pressured since you suggest giving snacks for me and especially to my Uhh…' other friends'?" Trying to make her tone and expressions caring despite seemingly passive-aggressive.

Sunny quickly realized his mistake and sheepishly put away the cutter. "Sorry about that, Aubrey. I didn't mean to startle you." He tried to match her caring tone, though a hint of nervousness remained in his voice. "I'm okay, really. It's just a small gesture, you know? Plus, I wanted to help out since we're all friends here."

Aubrey's expression softened slightly, understanding Sunny's intentions. "Well, thanks, Sunny. I appreciate the thought." She glanced at Kel and Basil, then back at Sunny. "Let's go get those snacks then, shall we?"

With Aubrey's approval, they continued their shopping trip, the tension from earlier dissipating as they focused on finding snacks for Aubrey and her friends.

Both Basil and Kel silently gasped as Aubrey blushed (Sunny clueless in the background) when she said "Again he recently came out you guys?!!! I did suggest one of you finally make sure he goes out!!! and I am helping him only recognize spots so he won't get lost in Faraway…."

Basil and Kel exchanged surprised glances, impressed by Aubrey's initiative in helping Sunny. Basil spoke up first, nodding in agreement. "That's thoughtful of you, Aubrey. Sunny could use some guidance, especially since he's been indoors for a long time."

Kel chimed in with a grin, "Yeah, it's about time he got out and about with us, right? Thanks, Aubrey, for looking out for him."

Sunny, still a bit oblivious to the underlying dynamics, smiled gratefully at Aubrey. "Thanks, Aubrey. I'm glad you're here to show me around. I guess I do need to get used to being outside more often."

Aubrey's inner thoughts reflected a mix of concern and nostalgia as she reminisced about their last conversation years ago. She masked her emotions with a playful tone, teasingly mentioning snacks for the hooligans. "You boys better not mess this up. I can give you some tips on what they might like, and if you're short on cash, I might even lend a hand. But don't get too comfortable relying on me!"

Sunny nodded eagerly, appreciating her offer. "That would be great, Aubrey. I'll make sure to get something they'll enjoy, and if we need your help, we'll ask. Thanks!"

Basil and Kel exchanged glances, silently acknowledging Aubrey's subtle display of care for Sunny's well-being.

Kel whispers to Basil "So, you sure that Aubrey deep down isn't really angry at any of us about what happened to Mari? Especially to Sunny being cooped up and distant to us except you Basil?"

This reveals Kel's concern about Aubrey's true feelings regarding Mari's situation and Sunny's isolation. He sought assurance from Basil, particularly about Aubrey's possible hidden anger or resentment.

Basil, adjusting his floral hair clip, replied in a hushed tone, "I think Aubrey cares more than she lets on. It's been tough on all of us, but she's trying to keep a strong front. We just have to be there for each other and help Sunny come out of his shell, no matter what."

Following Hel had felt a flicker of his something on the corners of his eyes and under his feet before he returned to the waking world as Kel nudged him with a smile and spoke with energy "Of course!!! You as well inform me and Aubrey this might be the best time Sunny is comfortable going outside again despite his readjustments for it"

Basil, slightly startled by the flicker of his thoughts, took a moment to compose himself before replying to Kel's energetic statement. "You're right, Kel. This is a positive step for Sunny. I'll talk to Aubrey and make sure we support him in this. It's important that he feels comfortable and supported as he reconnects with the outside world."

Meanwhile, Sunny was too busy listing down every aisle and item that Aubrey hinted for him to buy for the hooligans. As Aubrey observes afar she frowns as she groans feeling Basil shaking her jacket's sleeve "Ughh, what is it now Basil?"

Basil, with a concerned look, whispered to Aubrey, "Are you okay? You seem a bit tense. Is everything alright?"

She sighs "What do you think? You know why I am iffy with you compared to Kel and Sunny…" glancing at the Photo Album Basil clutches. Basil is well aware that Aubrey accused him since he owns the photo album of their friend circle of the past. He is the reason every Sunny's face in any photo is shades of black Marker. Kel was unaware that the hooligans and Aubrey were aggressively bullying and interrogating Basil why if he is not the one who did the marker shades on those parts of the pictures he won't admit who did?

The tense atmosphere between Aubrey, Basil, and the others continued to thicken as Basil remained tight-lipped about the marker shades on Sunny's face in the old photos. Meanwhile, Kel and Sunny, unaware of this tension, were engrossed in their shopping task for the hooligans, trying to choose the right snacks and items based on Aubrey's hints.

As they navigated the aisles, Kel asked Sunny, "Do you think Aubrey is acting a bit strange today? She seems a bit off." Sunny, still focused on the shopping list, replied, "I'm not sure. Maybe she's just stressed about something." But deep down, Sunny couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss between their friends.

Back at the spot where Aubrey and Basil stood, tensions rose as the hooligans became more vocal in their interrogation of Basil. "Just admit it, Basil! You're the one who defaced those photos, aren't you?" Kim, one of the hooligans, accused, her voice sharp with accusation.

Aubrey, torn between her loyalty to her friends and the pressure from the hooligans, tried to diffuse the situation. "Guys, let's calm down. Fighting won't solve anything," she urged, though her own doubts about Basil lingered in her mind.

Basil, feeling the weight of the accusations and knowing the truth behind the marker shades, remained silent, his grip on the photo album tightening. The air around them crackled with unresolved tension, hinting at deeper secrets and conflicts within their group.

Then , Kel and Sunny carried the shopping bags with the snacks of sweets and crackers for the hooligans. Until they both gasp where Aubrey and Basil are. When suddenly they heard some loud murmurs not far off from the store they are in. As they rush around to look for the voices as they finally spot the hooligans and Aubrey cornering a nervous wallflower Basil. As Aubrey shouted "Come on Basil Fauna[1] !!! If you won't admit who DID that on why Sunny's face is defaced then at least let me SAFEKEEP the Album and tried to fix it!!!" Passive aggressive as she use her spiky coiled Bat as a cane.

The scene unfolded dramatically as Kel and Sunny rushed to where the commotion was, their hearts pounding with concern. They arrived just in time to witness Aubrey confronting Basil, her voice laced with frustration and determination. Kel, wide-eyed, whispered to Sunny, "What's going on? Why is Aubrey so upset?"

Sunny, equally puzzled, shook his head but couldn't tear his gaze away from the tense situation. Aubrey's demand to take custody of the photo album caught his attention, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of unease. "I don't know, Kel. But something doesn't feel right," Sunny replied in a hushed tone.

Meanwhile, Aubrey continued to press Basil, her bat serving as a visual cue to the intensity of her emotions. "Basil Fauna, if you won't confess to defacing those photos, at least let me keep the album by trying to fix it!" she insisted, her voice echoing through the space.

Basil, visibly anxious and cornered, glanced at Kel and Sunny for support, but they were unsure how to intervene. The hooligans, standing behind Aubrey, added to the pressure with their expectant gazes fixed on Basil.

Sensing the escalating tension, Kel whispered to Sunny, "We have to do something. Let's try to calm them down and figure out what's really going on." With a nod of agreement, Sunny took a deep breath, ready to step in and diffuse the situation before it spiraled further out of control.

The tension heightened as the hooligans cornered the two while seizing the bags of snacks, leaving Sunny and Kel momentarily stunned. Sunny's expression remained neutral, masking his inner surprise and concern.

Kel's frown deepened, his voice tinged with disapproval. "Hey! We were going to give those to you if you promised to let Aubrey hang out with Sunny and her old friends. What's happening here? Why does it feel like you're bullying Basil?" Kel's protective instinct kicked in as he tried to make sense of the sudden turn of events.

Sunny, feeling the weight of the situation, spoke up with a hint of nervousness in his voice. "Please, let us through. What did Aubrey mean about the photo album having someone's appearance defaced?" His curiosity mixed with apprehension as he sought clarification, hoping to understand the underlying cause of the conflict.

The hooligans exchanged glances, their expressions unreadable as they deliberated silently. After a tense moment, one of them, Kim, stepped forward with a smirk. "We'll let you through if you agree to a little challenge. Bring Aubrey to our hangout spot tomorrow evening, and you can have your snacks back."

Kel's brows furrowed in suspicion. "What kind of challenge? And why do you want Aubrey there?" he pressed, not entirely trusting the hooligans' intentions.

Sunny, though outwardly calm, felt a knot of anxiety in his stomach. "We'll discuss the challenge later," he interjected, trying to keep the situation from escalating further. "Let's just focus on resolving this peacefully for now." His gaze shifted to Aubrey and Basil, silently urging them to find a resolution without resorting to more conflict.

The tension escalated as Vance, the gruffiest of the hooligans, taunted Sunny with derogatory remarks. "Later means no agreement to that request, Hikkimori," Vance sneered, using a derogatory term. "You're way behind, so defeat us and you might catch up with your flowerboy friend and stop our leader from her mission."

The Maverick chimed in, adding to the provocation. "There's no way this one knows how to fight, and the basketball player is too soft," he jeered, underestimating Sunny and Kel.

Kel, noticing Sunny's frozen reaction and sensing his triggered emotions, intervened with determination. "Oh, shut it! That's uncool! Come on, Sunny, we can handle these five people!" Kel's confidence in both himself and Sunny was evident as he picked up a basketball that he found nearby.

Sunny, despite feeling nervous, nodded in agreement with a neutral expression. He exhaled deeply, trying to calm his nerves, and pulled out his cutter, the only weapon or item he had on hand, contrasting with Kel's basketball.

The scene was tense as the standoff between Sunny, Kel, and the hooligans reached a critical point.

The tension escalated further as Basil tried to reason with Aubrey while avoiding her swinging bat. "Aubrey, I thought you wanted Sunny to come out after 3-4 years? Not because of this, right?" Basil gestured to the tense situation. "I really can't say or know who defaced the photos, even though this is my photo album. Even, it's probably for the best if Sunny couldn't see his older pictures before..."

Aubrey interrupted him with frustration, swinging her bat to emphasize her point. "So what? Are you forgetting that those memories from before Mari was comatose exist?!" Her anger and distress were palpable as she struggled with conflicting emotions and the weight of the situation.

Meanwhile, the fight between Sunny, Kel, and the hooligans intensified, adding to the chaotic atmosphere.

The intensity of the situation heightened as Sunny and Kel used non-lethal force to defeat the hooligans, leaving them exhausted and defeated. They quickly rushed to where Aubrey and Basil were, overhearing Aubrey's emotional outburst.

"Why deface Sunny's memories?" Aubrey's voice rang out angrily, tears evident in her eyes. "Just because Mari is comatose now doesn't mean she should forget Sunny when she wakes up someday!" Her emotions were raw as she continued, "You yourself helped create an alibi that Mari's coma was caused by her own accident!"

The weight of guilt and anger hung heavy in the air as Aubrey expressed her frustration, her words revealing a deeper layer of complexity to the situation and the dynamics between the friends.

Then, as Basil kneels down speechless hugging the Photo Album trying not to cry. As she noticed Sunny and Kel shielding Basil…Aubrey tried to calmly speak "You two, stand back…I need that personal talk with Basil…: it's connected to that Photo Album we used to look into togethe—" As Kel cut her off holding his basketball "Why not tell me and SUNNY, especially the context? Is this the reason why Basil doesn't talk about the hooligans or inform us when we could be bugging Sunny cause of an old Photo Album we had together?"

Kel's interruption showed his concern and protectiveness towards Sunny and Basil. His words echoed the frustration and confusion they all felt about the situation involving the photo album.

Aubrey sighed, realizing the weight of the moment and the impact of their past actions on their friendship. "I know I should have told you all sooner," she admitted, her voice softer now, tinged with regret. "The album holds memories we all cherished, but it also carries pain and misunderstandings."

Sunny, still tense from the recent confrontation, spoke up cautiously, "What do you mean, Aubrey? What's in the album that's causing all this tension?"

Aubrey glanced at Basil, who remained silent but visibly upset, clutching the album tightly. "It's a long story," she began, "but it's time we face it together. The truth about that album, Mari's accident, and why things are the way they are now." Her eyes met Sunny's and Kel's, a mixture of determination and vulnerability shining through.

However, she angrily spoke "Sorry Sunny, but first I need to have that Album.." as she marched closer with her spiky coiled Bat. Kel used his basketball to push her away. As Basil glances at Sunny seems uncomfortable yet also in a daze. Sunny was gripping his cutter flickering perspectives in his head (what has changed between us since only Me and Mari stayed at home besides our parents…why can't Basil tell her that I…was the one who…defaced the pictures with my face in it? Is this all a dream? That girl isn't Aubrey she isn't acting like she is) flickers of a gaze of defensive intent. As Kel keeps trying to do defense against Aubrey's offensive movement..

Finally something stopped and shocked everyone else. Drops of blood drip a bit.. and it was revealed Sunny exhaled and has that small bit of killer instinct to use his cutter to slash away Aubrey's right arm and fingers to let go of her bat and think she is going to hurt Basil.

Until Aubrey groans holding tears as she drops her bat. Kel and Basil are speechless when the hooligans tiredly rush to Aubrey's side. Kim asks "Hey!!! We're not harming Basil at all!!! Why do that to Aubrey!!? I thought you were her old friends…." Sunny was too busy looking at the trail of bloodstain to his cutter's blade as Kel said "Well you all started it first!!!! Targeting Basil despite no physical harm. You did scare him emotionally for how long?"

The situation escalated quickly, with emotions running high and Sunny's instincts taking over shockingly. The aftermath left everyone stunned and questioning what had just happened.

Aubrey's injured arm brought a somber reality to the scene, with Kel and Basil trying to make sense of the chaos. Sunny, still processing his actions, remained silent as Kel defended their actions, pointing out the emotional harm caused to Basil.

As the hooligans tended to Aubrey, Kim's words echoed the confusion and disbelief shared by everyone present. The tension in the air was palpable, with Sunny's gaze fixed on the consequences of his impulsive act.

The events that transpired revealed deep-seated tensions and unresolved issues within the group, leaving them all grappling with the fallout of Sunny's drastic response.

Then, Aubrey softly smiled and winced to speak "It's okay guys…I might deserve this…way…" glancing at Sunny still having that blank stare breathing deeply. Before Kim hush Aubrey. As Angel spoke as one of f the hooligans "Let's get that wound treated back in our hangout spot and maybe next time we can help you better fix that old album…" Aubrey nodded as Vance carried her, the other Hooligans left. Sunny, was slowly panically breathing. As Kel and even Basil who was sat down now stood up to check in Sunny dropped his cutter (Kel caught it with a napkin to hold the handle and close it. Sunny uttered, "Did I hurt Aubrey?" Confused as his stoic face starts flowing small tears.

Kel and Basil rushed to Sunny's side, their concern evident in their expressions. Kel gently placed a hand on Sunny's shoulder, trying to reassure him. "Hey, it's okay, Sunny. We'll take care of everything. Let's get you cleaned up first."

Basil, his voice filled with worry, added, "You didn't mean to hurt her, Sunny. It was a split-second reaction. We'll make sure Aubrey gets proper treatment too."

Sunny nodded slowly, his tears continuing to fall. "I... I didn't want to hurt anyone. I just... I thought she was going to hurt you, Basil," he whispered, his guilt weighing heavily on him.

Kel and Basil exchanged a glance, silently communicating their concern for Sunny's mental state. They helped him up and guided him to a nearby bench, where they carefully tended to his trembling hands and tried to calm his racing thoughts.

As they sat together, the weight of what had just happened hung in the air, each of them processing the events in their way and wondering about the repercussions of Sunny's impulsive action.

As Basil counts letting Kel wash the cutter Sunny has. While Sunny listens to Basil saying "Just breathe in 5…4..3..2.1 and exhale 1..2…3…4..5 calm down it's a spur of a moment…" he says softly trying to help Sunny by holding his friend's hand..

Basil's calm voice and reassuring touch helped to ground Sunny in the moment. Sunny followed Basil's counting, focusing on his breathing and trying to regain control over his emotions. As he exhaled slowly, he felt some of the tension leave his body.

Kel returned with a clean cutter and a damp cloth, ready to tend to Sunny's wounds. "Here, Sunny. Let's take care of this," Kel said gently, his concern evident in his eyes.

Sunny nodded, grateful for his friend's support. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to cause trouble," he murmured, still feeling shaken by what had transpired.

"It's okay, Sunny. We'll figure it out together," Basil reassured him, his voice calm and soothing.

Kel cleaned the cutter carefully, applying antiseptic and bandaging Sunny's trembling hands. "There, all done. Just take it easy, okay? We're here for you," Kel said with a warm smile, trying to lighten the mood.

Sunny managed a small smile in return, feeling grateful for his friends' understanding and support during such a challenging moment.

Then, Sunny confusedly asks "Where did you have a napkin and a new set of bandages Kel?" As Kel whistles "A secret…can't say…" before he sighs "Although it's sad that Aubrey has a beef with Basil now and I barely realize why the Hooligans are such Hooligans in the first place…" As Sunny asks "So Uhh…" glances at the two of them "Guess I am not the best socially….yet Kel why aren't you giving my cutter back?" As Kel asked first "Question how long since you had this cutter? And all I know Judging how you casually always have bandages on your arm....do you have a quirky coping mechanism..?" As Basil glanced confused (is this the right time Kel?) he thought.

Kel's whistling and cryptic response hinted at something he wasn't ready to disclose yet. Sunny's question about the cutter prompted Kel to pause, considering his response carefully.

"Well, Sunny, I found your cutter earlier when I was waiting for your little moment before leaving the house," Kel explained. "And about your coping mechanism... I've noticed you always have bandages on your arm. Is that how you deal with stress or difficult emotions?"

Sunny nodded slowly, a bit surprised by Kel's observation. "Yeah, I guess you could say that. It helps me... feel grounded, I suppose."

Basil, still looking puzzled, interjected softly, "Sunny, is everything okay? You seemed really shaken back there."

Sunny hesitated for a moment before nodding. "I'm fine, Basil. It just... a lot to process. Sorry about all of that."

Kel handed back the closed cutter to Sunny. "Here you go. Just be careful with it, okay?"

Sunny took it back, nodding gratefully. "Thanks, Kel."

Basil glanced between his friends, concern etched on his face. "Maybe we should head back home for now. We can talk more there and figure things out."

Sunny agreed, feeling a mix of relief and lingering unease. As they walked back home, the events of the day weighed heavily on Sunny's mind, and he couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt and confusion.

Then, Basil spoke "Still I am so sorry for not informing neither of you about my current dynamic with Aubrey—" As Kel asked (Sunny stayed silent) "Is it true though?" He says with caring concern "that our Photo Album you safe keep for years: has all Sunny's face been covered with Marker?"

Basil looked down for a moment before nodding reluctantly. "Yes, Kel. It's true. I didn't want anyone to see those photos with Sunny's face like that. It's... a reminder of a difficult time."

Sunny, still processing everything, finally spoke up. "I didn't know about this. Why did you do that, Basil?"

Basil sighed, his shoulders slumping. "I thought it was best to hide those memories, especially since they were from before Mari's... accident."

Kel nodded understandingly. "It must have been hard for you, Basil. But keeping it hidden only made things more complicated."

Sunny, feeling a mix of emotions, didn't know how to respond. He glanced at the photo album in Basil's hands, realizing the weight of those hidden memories.

Kel placed a reassuring hand on Sunny's shoulder. "We'll figure this out together, okay? We're here for you, no matter what."

As they reached home, the atmosphere was tense yet filled with an unspoken determination to address the underlying issues that had surfaced during their outing.

Then, Sunny asked, "We can still hang out I mean…. Could I have lunch at either of your houses?". Kel and Basil shrug. As Kel spoke "My Mama is busy with my little sister back home.:..so….shoot We lost those snacks for the hooligans amidst earlier—" Basil and Sunny giggled a bit. Before Basil softly spoke hiding his face with the photo album shyly "My Babysitter is at my house preparing lunch by now, Guess you co—c-could both come over. Best I could do after today and what has transpired…."

Sunny smiled gratefully at Basil. "That sounds good, Basil. Thanks for inviting us over."

Kel nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, we appreciate it. And sorry again about what happened earlier. We didn't expect things to escalate like that."

Basil waved it off with a small smile. "It's okay. Let's just try to have a peaceful lunch together."

As they walked to Basil's house, the tension from earlier slowly dissipated, replaced by a sense of camaraderie and understanding. They may have faced challenges, but their bond as friends remained strong.

Later, Basil heard a whisper to Sunny as Kel was behind busy whistling and walking behind them. As Sunny whisper says "Psshh….Basil, why lie? No..: why can't you tell any of our fr-f-friends that I was the one who defaced myself in your Photo Album of our old times when Mari used to be awake?"

Basil paused his expression a mix of surprise and concern. "Sunny, I didn't want to bring that up because... because it's a painful memory for all of us. And I didn't want anyone to feel guilty or upset, especially you."

Sunny nodded slowly, understanding Basil's point. "But they should know the truth, Basil. It's not fair to keep it from them, especially since it's about me."

Basil sighed, conflicted. "I know, Sunny. I'll think about it, okay? Let's just focus on having lunch together for now."

Sunny agreed reluctantly, the weight of his secret still heavy on his mind as they continued walking towards Basil's house.

Next, he listens when Basil says "Besides I promise that you're not alone with that BURDEN right? Just as always….at least although not perfect you don't seem to intend to leave faraway besides nursing Mari by now with your…" Sighs with a relieved smile "Parents sticking around despite extra busy for work and expenses at your home…" Suddenly, Kel made the other two jump as he shouted "Ohh cool!!! Your home Basil still has its little garden corner as always…" As Basil softly spoke with a nervous smile "But don't you always notice that Kel when passing by my house?"

Sunny chuckled, feeling a bit lighter amidst the heavy topics. "Kel always has an eye for those details, doesn't he?"

Kel grinned proudly. "Of course! I notice everything."

As they approached Basil's house, the familiar sight of the garden corner brought a sense of comfort to Sunny. Despite the challenges they faced, being together with his friends in this moment felt reassuring.

He ignored the whispers of something "I love you….Sunny—" Sunny breathes to relax as he asks Basil "So what sort of lunch are we having made by your babysitter Basil?"

Sunny's question about lunch made Basil smile. "Well, my babysitter is good at making sandwiches and salads. Maybe we'll have some grilled chicken sandwiches and a fresh garden salad?"

Kel chimed in eagerly, "Sounds delicious! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it."

Sunny nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of anticipation for the meal ahead. "That sounds perfect. Let's head in then."

As they head inside, Basil calls out (as Kel and Sunny can smell the aroma of nutritional salad) "Polly!!! Ms.Polly!!! I am back home and brought two friends with me!!!!"

As Basil called out for Polly, the aroma of the nutritional salad filled the air, adding to the welcoming atmosphere of his home. Sunny and Kel exchanged smiles, feeling the warmth of hospitality in Basil's household. Sunny couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort in being welcomed into his friend's home, away from the recent tensions outside.

Polly's voice floated from the kitchen, "Welcome back, Basil! Oh, you've brought friends over? That's wonderful!" She appeared in the doorway, a kind smile on her face as she greeted Sunny and Kel. "I'm Polly, Basil's babysitter. It's lovely to meet both of you."

Sunny and Kel introduced themselves with polite smiles, feeling grateful for the hospitality extended to them. As they all gathered around the dining table, the scent of the delicious lunch filled the room, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere for their meal together.

Kel's cheerful introduction set a positive tone as he shared anecdotes and jokes, lightening the mood around the dining table. Sunny, although socially awkward and a bit hesitant, managed a polite introduction, his discomfort palpable but masked by a faint smile.

Polly, with her warm and welcoming demeanor, added to the conversation by mentioning how Basil often talked about Sunny in his personal phone calls over the years. She expressed her delight in finally meeting Sunny in person after hearing so much about him.

The lunch proceeded with light chatter and laughter, easing any lingering tension from earlier events. Sunny found himself gradually relaxing in the company of Basil, Kel, and Polly, grateful for their understanding and acceptance despite his prolonged isolation.

As they enjoyed the nutritious meal prepared by Polly, the sense of camaraderie and friendship grew stronger, bridging the gap that years of seclusion had created. Sunny felt a glimmer of hope, realizing that even after everything, he was not alone, and some people cared about him and valued his presence.

As Kel said "Thanks, Ms.Polly!!! Still I namely Kellsey Corazon~ is always grateful!!! Yet Basil's parents are busy as usual?" As he eats. Basil waited to let Polly reply as he set aside his photo album by the dining table to eat. As Sunny eats slowly as well he adds "Right and Basil's Grandma..why can't we see her today? Since I do miss a lot of things, Ms.Polly…"

Polly smiled warmly at Kel's gratitude before replying, "Oh, you know how it is with Basil's parents, always busy with work. And as for Grandma, she's out visiting some relatives today. But don't worry, you'll get to see her soon."

Basil nodded in agreement, adding, "Yeah, Grandma will be back soon, and we can plan another visit. She always asks about you, Sunny, and Kel whenever we talk."

Sunny, taking small bites as he listened, nodded slightly and said, "I do miss seeing everyone more often. It feels strange being away for so long."

Polly, noticing Sunny's contemplative tone, offered some reassurance, "It's okay, Sunny. Things change, but the important part is that you're here now, and we can spend time together. Plus, Basil and Kel have been keeping me entertained with their stories about you all."

Kel grinned, eager to share more stories, while Basil nodded in agreement, glad to have Sunny and Kel over for lunch despite the day's unexpected events.

Sunny blushed as he sweated a glance at Basil. Basil shrugs and turns to Polly with a smile "Either way Ms.Polly we shouldn't overwhelm Sunny with these stories surely he catch on by now—" Polly giggles as she joins them in eating and asks "How about you two? How's your famiies? I at least know Kel's older brother Hero, right? Was the name of the eldest Corazon who will return here from College as it's summer break by tomorrow for his yes?"

Basil nodded in agreement with Polly's suggestion, and Sunny let out a nervous chuckle, feeling a bit overwhelmed but also grateful for the warmth of their gathering.

Kel, chewing on a piece of grilled chicken sandwich, replied eagerly, "Yeah, Hero's coming back tomorrow! Can't wait to have him back for the summer. He's been telling me all about his college adventures."

Basil added, "And my family's doing well, thank you for asking. Just the usual busy schedules keeping us occupied."

Sunny, finally finding his voice, chimed in, "My family's good too. Just the usual routine at home." He glanced at Kel and Basil, silently appreciating their company and the sense of normalcy their lunch together brought.

Basil chuckled "Yeah…well at least Ms.Polly is already aware of mine oops…she is my family babysitter hmm…" Polly pinched Basil's cheek with a laugh as she glanced at Sunny when his arm reached out for some juice by the table. She questions "Wait Sunny, are those bandages on your arm?" Then glance at his neck he has a neatly done neck brace his size blending in with his overall clothing.

Sunny, a bit surprised by Polly's observation, nodded slightly. "Uh, yeah, just some minor injuries. Nothing serious," he replied, trying to downplay it.

Kel, noticing the shift in the conversation, quickly interjected with a smile, "Hey, let's not dwell on that. How about we talk about something fun? Like, uh, what's everyone's favorite thing to do in Faraway Town?"

Basil, eager to change the subject as well, added, "Yeah, that sounds great! For me, I love spending time in my garden or reading in the park."

Polly, sensing the shift in mood, went along with it. "Oh, I love gardening too! It's so relaxing. And reading in the park sounds lovely."

Sunny joined in, his discomfort easing as they shifted to a lighter topic. "I enjoy taking walks around town and exploring new places. It's nice to get some fresh air."

The conversation flowed smoothly from there, with everyone sharing their favorite hobbies and memories of Faraway Town.

They all pause. As Sunny glances at them clueless "Outside counts when I just walk only by the yard of my family's house for a few minutes before back in right? That counts?" They laugh a bit as they finally finish eating. As Kel spoke, "Still Ms.Polly you love Gardening thanks to Basil right?"

Sunny's attempt to contribute to the conversation lightened the mood further, eliciting chuckles from everyone. Polly nodded with a warm smile. "Yes, indeed! Basil here has always had a green thumb. He's the reason our garden looks so beautiful."

Basil blushed slightly at the compliment. "Aw, thanks, Ms. Polly. Gardening has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember."

Kel, ever enthusiastic, added, "And you know, gardening is not just about growing plants. It's about nurturing life and creating something beautiful."

Sunny, feeling more at ease now, chimed in, "Yeah, it's like taking care of something and watching it grow and thrive. It's pretty amazing."

Polly nodded in agreement. "Exactly! Gardening teaches us patience, care, and appreciation for nature."

The conversation continued, with everyone sharing stories and experiences related to gardening and nature, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere.

Afterwards, as time passed she handled the dishes and other chores letting the boys hang out in the living room nearby. Basil exhales calmly "So you guys are full and Uhh…you sue Kel that you and Sunny want to see the current state of the photo album?" As Sunny silently nods. While Kel cried out "Come on it's not THAT BAD of some defacing right?"

As they gathered in the living room, Basil carefully retrieved the photo album from where he had set it aside earlier. He opened it, revealing pages filled with memories captured in photographs. Some faces, including Sunny's, had been partially obscured by black marker.

Kel leaned in, examining the pictures with a mix of curiosity and concern. "Yeah, I mean, it's not the end of the world, but it's definitely strange seeing all these faces marked out. What happened back then?"

Basil sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's a long story, but essentially, someone defaced the photos. I've never been able to figure out who did it or why."

Sunny hesitated, about to admit his role in defacing the photos, but Basil cut him off gently. "It's best not to dwell on who did it right now. We should focus on how to properly talk to Aubrey and address any other factors that might be making her angry."

Sunny nodded, relieved that Basil intervened. "Yeah, you're right. Let's focus on moving forward positively."

Basil and Kel both nodded in agreement. "Exactly," Kel said. "We'll figure this out together."

The three friends then spent the rest of the afternoon reminiscing about old times, discussing plans to restore the photo album, and enjoying each other's company in a newfound sense of understanding and camaraderie.

Then, Kel laughed as he saw his younger self in these photos "At least my FORMER short self like a midget is here? No one deface my appearance…."

As Kel chuckled at his younger self in the photos, Basil nodded in agreement. However, Sunny's observant eye caught something peculiar. "Wait, Basil," Sunny began, his curiosity piqued. "Why are the photos involving Mari missing? Did Aubrey manage to steal some photos from you in the past?"

Basil's expression shifted slightly, a mix of sadness and resignation. "No, Aubrey didn't steal them. Those photos are missing because I removed them myself."

Kel and Sunny exchanged surprised glances. "Why would you remove photos of Mari?" Kel asked, puzzled.

Basil sighed, choosing his words carefully. "It's a complicated situation. Some memories are difficult to confront, especially considering Mari's current condition."

Sunny's expression softened with understanding. "I get it," he said softly. "Some things are just too painful to revisit."

Basil nodded. "Exactly. But maybe one day, when things are different, we can look back on those memories with fondness."

The conversation shifted to lighter topics as they continued to flip through the photo album, cherishing the moments captured in each picture and creating new memories together in the present.

Then Kel awkwardly looks at the two "You two are truly close….how long did you two have that CALL only chatting with each other for years due to Sunny staying indoors for 4 years?"

Kel's question brought a moment of reflection between Sunny and Basil. Sunny hesitated before answering, "We've had our share of long talks, especially when I couldn't go out much. It's been a way for us to stay connected, even when things were tough."

Basil nodded, adding, "Yeah, we've talked a lot over the years. It's been a way for us to support each other, even from a distance."

Kel smiled warmly, sensing the bond between them. "That's cool. It shows how strong your friendship is."

As they continued their conversation, the atmosphere felt lighter, filled with a sense of camaraderie and understanding among the three friends.

Then he cluelessly blinked "I wonder why Sunny doesn't have me, Hero's, or Aubrey's Phone numbers for that too….."

Sunny shrugged slightly, "I guess I never really thought about it. I've mostly just stayed in my world, you know?"

Basil chimed in, "It's okay, Sunny. We're all here now, and that's what matters."

Kel nodded in agreement, "Yeah, we're all hanging out together today, and that's what counts."

The trio continued their conversation, enjoying each other's company and the sense of togetherness that filled the room.

As Basil asks closing his photo album "So Sunny, any updates to Mari's health besides asleep?" As Sunny responds nonchalantly "Her body seems healthy and I keep making sure her limbs aren't stiff. Yet…" both Kel and Basil stare at Sunny "this may be sudden but my Mom and Dad recently need me to come with them to visit the city to transfer Mari medically soon by within 3 weeks…" They both shouted "Three weeks?"

Which Kel beams "Guess we have time to use this moment to hang out… You're not truly leaving Faraway town just a bit to improve Mari's health and your parents probably found a way to pay such expenses for her coma…." While Basil got quiet. Sunny nervously turns. As Basil stood up chuckling a bit hiding his surprise "I shall go back to the bathroom for a while and be right back—" As Kel shrugged it off "Okay, me and Sunny would have a sleepover by the living room!!!" As Ms.Polly glances a bit before speaking up "Boys, I don't mind guests but if you are sleeping over here please call your residential homes of your families for permission to stay here or other methods of informing them….."

As Basil left for the bathroom, Kel and Sunny exchanged glances. Kel then took out his phone and dialed his home number to inform his family about the sleepover. Sunny followed suit and called his parents to let them know he would be staying at Basil's place for the night.

Ms. Polly smiled approvingly at their responsible actions. "Thank you for letting your families know, boys. It's always good to keep everyone informed and safe."

Kel grinned, "No problem, Ms. Polly! We always try to be responsible."

Sunny nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of relief that everything was sorted out.

Then, time passes. Kel is fast asleep while Ms.Polly is about to get ready for bed. Sunny can't sleep for the night and asks Ms.Polly "Pshh Ms.Polly despite Basil being happy why does it seem like something bothers him?"

Ms. Polly glanced at Sunny with a gentle smile before sitting down next to him. "Well, dear, sometimes even when we're happy, there are things that still weigh on our minds. Basil is a thoughtful young man. He cares deeply about his friends and family, and I think sometimes he worries about things he can't control."

Sunny nodded slowly, understanding. "Is it about Mari? Or maybe Aubrey?"

Ms. Polly nodded. "It could be a mix of things. Mari's condition, Aubrey's recent reactions, and perhaps even your situation. Change and uncertainty can make anyone a bit uneasy."

Sunny sighed, feeling a bit comforted by Ms. Polly's words. "I hope we can all figure things out. I don't like seeing anyone upset, especially Basil."

Ms. Polly patted his hand reassuringly. "We'll figure it out together, dear. Sometimes just being there for each other and talking things through can make a big difference."

Sunny smiled faintly, grateful for Ms. Polly's wisdom. "Thank you, Ms. Polly. Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Sunny. Sleep well," Ms. Polly replied as Sunny headed back to the living room, hoping that tomorrow would bring clarity and peace to everyone's hearts.

Then, he got nervous and decided to check on Basil in the bathroom since it seemed he hadn't returned in a while. As his something tails him from behind like a shadow. As he awkwardly knocks and opens the bathroom door "Hey Basil why are you taking awhile—" froze as in the semi-lit bathroom Basil was frantically using shears to cut off some petals of the flowerpot he held on one of the bathroom decors "He is leaving faraway without telling me because he is not my friend anymore, no he is my friend…yes he is not my friend…no he is—" As Basil's something flickered by his background as Sunny shut the bathroom door and ask "What? Basil if it's something about that upcoming day…as Kel perceives I am not leaving Faraway permanently…me and Mari just need to leave for awhile after 3 weeks here to prepare…"

Sunny's voice seemed to break Basil out of his frantic state. Basil turned to look at Sunny, his expression a mix of relief and confusion. "Sunny, you heard that? I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to hear all that. It's just...sometimes I get overwhelmed with thoughts, especially when things are changing."

Sunny nodded understandingly, stepping closer to Basil. "It's okay, Basil. Change can be scary, but we'll get through it together. And I'm not leaving you or Faraway permanently."

Basil managed a small smile. "Thanks, Sunny. I appreciate your understanding. It's just...sometimes I worry about things getting too different, you know?"

Sunny nodded again, placing a hand on Basil's shoulder. "I understand. But change can also bring new opportunities and growth. Maybe this is a chance for us to learn and experience new things."

Basil sighed, looking at the flowerpot in his hands. "You're right, Sunny. I should try to see the positive side of things. And I'm glad you're here, even if things are uncertain."

Sunny smiled warmly. "I'm always here for you, Basil. We're friends, through thick and thin."

Basil returned the smile, feeling a bit lighter. "Thank you, Sunny. And I'm sorry for worrying you with my thoughts."

"It's okay, Basil. Let's go back to the living room and get some rest. Tomorrow is a new day," Sunny suggested, leading the way out of the bathroom.

Basil followed, feeling grateful for Sunny's presence and support. As they settled down for the night, both boys felt a sense of reassurance knowing that they had each other to rely on during times of uncertainty.

Then, Basil asks Sunny "You see it too right? Those SOMETHINGS into us…It's nice we both ignore those THINGS….yet Sunny why did you almost admit you did the defacing e-e-earlier? And why didn't you inform me about those 3 weeks here before leaving in a better hospital? I thought you trusted me the most due to the shared contacts and what we KNEW of Mari…."

Sunny hesitated for a moment before responding, "I'm sorry, Basil. I almost admitted it because I felt guilty, but I know it's not fair to put that burden on you. As for not telling you about the 3 weeks, I guess I was scared of how you might react. I trust you completely, but sometimes I struggle with sharing difficult things."

Basil nodded understandingly. "It's okay, Sunny. We all have our moments of uncertainty and fear. But remember, you can always talk to me about anything. We're in this together, no matter what."

Sunny smiled gratefully. "Thanks, Basil. I appreciate your understanding and support. And I promise to be more open with you in the future."

Basil returned the smile, feeling relieved. "That's all I ask for, Sunny. Let's face whatever comes our way together like we always do."

The two friends then settled down for the night, their bond stronger than ever as they faced the challenges and changes that lay ahead.

Then Sunny got serious "When you said you see somethings. If I recall now in our earlier CONVERSATIONS through calls and texts over my 4 years isolated….that well….Did you believe my so-called Dreamworld exists? Was it me sharing stories around it with you back then?"

Basil paused, considering Sunny's question carefully. "I'll be honest, Sunny. At first, I wasn't sure what to make of your dreamworld stories. They seemed fantastical, and I wasn't sure if they were real or just a product of your imagination. But over time, as we talked more and I saw how much those stories meant to you, I started to believe in their significance. I may not fully understand everything about your dream world, but I believe in your experiences and the emotions they bring out in you."

Sunny nodded, appreciating Basil's honesty. "Thank you, Basil. It means a lot to me that you listened and tried to understand, even when it seemed unbelievable. Maybe one day, I'll be able to show you more of that world."

Basil smiled warmly. "I'd like that, Sunny. Until then, know that I'm here for you, whether it's about your dream world or anything else."

With that reassurance, Sunny and Basil settled into a more relaxed conversation, their bond strengthened by honesty and acceptance.

Then Basil softly smiled as he nudge Sunny looking at Kel snoring and drooling on his sleep by the couch of the living room. For he whispers to Sunny "Plus, it's amazing how in the dreamworld story if I recall the name of your persona there is Omori right? Like M-M-Mari's Piano brand name?"

Basil's question made Sunny nod with a thoughtful expression. "Yeah, it's Omori in the dream world, and Mari's piano brand is Omori as well. Funny coincidence, huh?"

Basil chuckled softly. "Seems like there's a connection there, even if it's just a coincidence. Maybe it's a sign of how intertwined your world and Mari's are, even in subtle ways."

Sunny smiled back, feeling a sense of comfort in their shared understanding. "Could be. It's like our lives have threads weaving through them, connecting everything in unexpected ways."

With that shared insight, they continued their conversation, exploring the intricacies of their intertwined lives and the mysteries that bound them together.
