The roar of that speedboat cut through the night like a blade, its headlights slicing across the water and pinning us in their glare. My heart slammed against my ribs, my hands gripping the edge of the boat as the icy spray stung my face. We'd barely escaped Xie Liang's ambush, barely caught our breath with Mom—Mom—alive and trembling beside me, and now this. Another enemy, another fight, and I was so damn tired of running. But tired didn't mean done—not for me, not tonight.
"Get down!" Yang Wei shouted, his voice sharp as he shoved himself between me and the oncoming boat, his gun raised. Haoyu yanked the throttle harder, our little motorboat lurching forward, but it was no match for the sleek predator closing in—fast, armed, and loaded with shadows that moved like they'd been born to kill.
