Chapter 4 - 4. Status

Listening to the information that "it" was sending, I couldn't contain my excitement and curiosity. As soon as the notifications ended, I immediately thought, "Status."

[Displaying Host's Status]

As soon as "it" said so, a blue screen appeared, hovering in the air and displaying my status.

----------

I don't know why, but seeing my status feels like I have seen something like this before. I should not be able to understand what these standards are, yet I can understand all of the stats.

"But where have I seen something like this?" I tried hard to focus on my memory, but got interrupted by "it."

[Host: Don't try to focus too much on your memory. As you can see, your passive skill [Perfect Memory] and original intelligence are sealed. If the host tries to remember something that is sealed, your brain may start bleeding, putting your life in danger.]

"Why is my memory sealed?" I stated my doubt, starting to grow suspicious of its behavior.

[As the host is just a baby and a baby's head cannot contain all the information the host had in his previous life, I sealed some of the host's memories that I deemed unnecessary for the host's current life for now.]

"Hmmm, then when will they get unsealed?" I asked, still feeling slightly suspicious.

[They will get unsealed when the host awakens his mana and magic power.]

"Awakening, huh... well, if it said that they are only memories that are not necessary, probably they weren't."

Seemingly reassured by its response, I focused on the blue screen once more and noticed that my charm was ridiculously high—"Maybe because I inherited the genes of those two beyond gorgeous people." After scanning my status thoroughly, I asked about what I didn't understand.

"What is Blessing and explain my Blessings too." I asked, as it was the only thing that I didn't understand.

[Certainly, Host. A blessing is when Gods and Elemental Sovereigns deem a soul worthy enough and bestow upon it a fraction of their power.]

[The host's soul is quite special in that regard, as the host has the blessing of the God of Life and Death and two Elemental Sovereigns. It is said that sovereigns only bless people in a millennium or so.]

[The host has three blessings: Blessing of the Reincarnator, Blessing of the Almighty Water Sovereign, and Blessing of the Wind Sovereign.]

[The Blessing of the Reincarnator is the blessing bestowed upon the host by the God of Life and Death himself. This blessing helps the host to understand any language spoken in this world and provides certain buffs to the host's system, aka me.]

[Next is the Blessing of the Almighty Water Sovereign. The strongest Elemental Sovereign of this world has blessed the host with his blessing, recognizing the host's potential. Any form of water cannot hurt the host under any condition, and after awakening, the host can freely manipulate Water Mana to his will. Moreover, as this is the blessing of the mightiest sovereign, the host has the potential to become the mightiest being that has ever breathed in this world.]

[Lastly, the Host has the Blessing of the Wind Sovereign. The Wind Sovereign has blessed the host with her blessing. Any form of wind cannot hurt the host under any condition, and after awakening, the host can freely manipulate Wind Mana to his will.]

Huh, I knew that my soul was special, but I had no idea it was this special. Yet there was one other thing I wanted to know.

"Why is [Prodigy] listed as my trait? I am not even one year old right now; how did you even decide on it?"

[...]

[Host: Have you ever heard of a baby who has the intelligence of an average child?]

"...Riiiiight." I thought. I hadn't considered it like that, but why did it sound disappointed in me? Wasn't it a part of my soul? The more I talked with it, the more it seemed like a different entity from me. Speaking of "it" as a different entity, I still haven't decided what to call "it."

"Hey, what is your name? How do I call you?"

[I do not possess any name, host. I am just a system, and you can call me that.]

"I'm not calling you 'System.'" I replied immediately after listening to its response, for its voice contained so many emotions that it couldn't be simply dismissed as a system.

[...]

[The host can give me any name that the host wants to.]

"Name, huh..." I realized I could name it anything I wanted. Then—

"Your name would be Char." That was the best name I could come up with after thinking for about ten minutes. I don't know why; perhaps it was due to a divine interruption.

[...]

Why did it sound disappointed in me again? All right, all right—I accept that I am not good at naming!

[Name of [Otherworldly System] updating to [Char].]

[1% 2% 5%.... 99% 100% completed.]

[Name of [Otherworldly System] updated to [Char].]

While Char was in the process of updating her name, I noticed the gate slowly opening. Then the maid who had come with my mother and father to the naming ceremony entered without making a sound.

She had shoulder-length blonde hair; she was not particularly beautiful—or maybe she was, but nowhere near my mother's beauty. The most noticeable feature of her, however, was her scarlet red eyes. As I looked into her eyes, fear began welling up inside me.

"Did she come here to kill me?"

"Shit, I can't defend myself in this body."

"Was she an assassin?"

"Doesn't she fear what would happen if she killed the prince?"

Various thoughts raced through my mind, and I started crying, hoping that someone would come and save me from her.

Hearing my cries, the maid approached me, and my cries grew louder with each step she took. Fear transformed into sheer horror as I continued looking into her eyes—for reasons only God knows. Then she extended her hand toward me, and I shut my eyes tightly, preparing to say goodbye to this world just the day after my reincarnation.

But the moment I had been dreading never came. Instead, I felt a gentle touch on my cheek, which made me open my eyes. I saw her caressing my cheek with affection. Her eyes, which had terrified me before, now looked at me with the care one displays toward their most precious treasure. Then she said what I least expected from her,

"There's no need to worry, Your Highness. I am assigned to be your maid. I will do my utmost to protect you from any harm." She said this with affection, still caressing my cheek, perhaps trying to stop my cries—and it surprisingly worked.

My cries ceased, the fear vanished after listening to her voice, which sounded like a melody, and my focus shifted to her words. She promised to protect me from any harm. Am I in any kind of danger?

"Char, could you check her status?"

[Certainly, Host. After all, I am not an ordinary system!]

Then her status screen appeared before me, and I was stunned as I took a look at her stats.

----------

"Well, if she said she would protect me from any danger, then surely I won't be in any kind of danger, right?" I thought after seeing her status. But little did I know at that moment that what was about to happen in the future would not only flip my life upside down but the whole kingdom as well.
