They all stood in silence, watching as Anna—now a mutant—moved toward them. Draven opened his mouth to speak but quickly closed it again. Words would be useless; he knew this was not the Anna he had once known. This was the work of Luci.
"But how?" The mountain spirit voiced the question that lingered in everyone's mind.
Louisiana held Draven back as Anna approached. "This is Luci's doing, but how did he come into being?"
"So the myth was true," Draven confirmed. He glanced at Anna before turning to the faces around him; none of them feared his wings now. They were all trembling at the sight of the mutant. After all, anyone looking so grotesque and corpse-like would evoke dread.
"Madeline," he muttered, the name nagging at his thoughts.
"Go to her; there's no time," urged Louisiana. The faster Draven could reach Madeline and halt the corruption, the better their chances of ridding themselves of Luci and his mutants. Heaven knows how many more could be out there.
