Months went by, and the long-awaited Sous caravan finally arrived in Tangier. With it came a variety of goods: spices, fabrics, handcrafted trinkets, and exotic items from the Sous region. As I watched the merchants unload their wares, I couldn't help but feel a mix of anxiety and anticipation. The journey ahead was filled with uncertainty, but it was the only path left for us to find some semblance of stability and safety.
Juan soon approached with the man he had told me about—a guide who could help us settle in Sous. The man, named Nabeel, was striking in appearance. At first glance, he looked human, but it was his cat-like ears that revealed his demi-human nature. His eyes were sharp and watchful, and his movements were smooth and confident. He was clearly someone who had traveled far and seen much of the world.
Juan spoke to Nabeel in low tones, explaining our situation. Nabeel glanced over at us, his gaze assessing. He didn't seem to show much emotion as he listened, his eyes flicking between me, Lily, and Elara. After a few moments, he nodded and walked over to us.
"I'm Nabeel," he said in a calm but firm voice. "I'll take you to Sous. But remember, the lifestyle there is very different from this urban city. You'll need to adapt quickly, or things could get difficult."
I nodded, feeling a mix of relief and nervousness. "I understand. We'll do our best to fit in. And... if we make mistakes, could you guide us? We don't want to offend anyone or break any rules unknowingly."
Nabeel's ears twitched slightly as he listened, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "I'll guide you, but you must be willing to learn and respect the ways of the tribes. Outsiders are often treated with suspicion in Sous, but if you show respect and adapt, you'll find your place there."
His words made it clear that this wasn't going to be easy. But his acceptance gave us a glimmer of hope. It was a new start, and despite the challenges that lay ahead, we had a chance to rebuild our lives.
