Winter is getting even worse.
The air became multiple times colder as snow began to fall during certain times.
People are still going out and strolling the city, despite being under the near minus temperature. Though, they are wearing really thick clothes to protect them from the cold air. Clothing stores are really profiting from the change in the weather, now that people are buying heavy thick outfits like winter jackets and clothes.
This evening, snow is falling densely. Not that many people are out there walking in the town. Even if they do, it's probably because they have some super important business to do that cannot be missed.
I took a sip on my hot chocolate while sitting in front of the fireplace to warm myself. I looked out the window and could see the snow falling down.
There's going to be a thick layer of snow tomorrow morning, I can already see that from far away. More work for me, huh?
I placed the glass filled with hot chocolate to the glass table as I moved my position to sleep on the sofa. Right when I was about to sleep, my mind wandered off once more.
Due to the heavy weather, the Office is now only open at day time, or any time that is not snowing. The cold weather can actually get the adventurers sick, and they won't be able to do their missions properly. And thanks to that, I haven't gone on a mission for nearly a week.
I closed my eyes, and hoped that tomorrow might be a clear day.
Over three weeks has passed since the Blue ranked test, and the heaviest moment of the winter season has begun. And the beginning of winter, marks the beginning of a new chapter.
The chapter… filled with wars.
The past three weeks, the activities with the demons have been going really heavy. There have been tons of sightings of demon spies in our area, and even within our kingdom.
Around two weeks ago, there's a random explosion coming from the northern side of the kingdom where the knights' location is at. Me and the others from my team quickly head there to check, only to find dead bodies of a group of knights.
Turns out a demon spy was found within the knights group. The knights group set up a trap for the demon, and were able to back him into a corner. But, knowing that he had been found, he quickly went on a rampage. And the knights that previously cornered him, had no idea that the demon was that strong.
The demon killed the knights who he was previously close with.
The entire city turned alert as the adventurers helped out in the search. The demon spy was then found by a group of low ranking adventurers on a small alley at the west of the city, near the markets. They then fought and nearly lost their lives.
Luckily, Fran was near the area and quickly jumped in to help. I arrived just in time to heal the adventurers before they bleed to death.
The demon got captured by Fran and was questioned by the headmaster and the arch-mage, who seemed to be visiting the kingdom really often now. The two even came to my house around a week ago to taste some of my best cooking.
All thanks to Fran and Cane for suggesting them. I'm still annoyed by that, not gonna lie.
After that, there are also sightings outside the kingdom, where a group of knights battled with a group of scout demons. Now, it is clear to us that the demons are already beginning their siege towards our side of the continent.
The adventurers and knights are working tirelessly to look for any demon sightings, and we fought three times against a group of scouts. We won every single one, but it was always by a close margin.
Those demons, each and every single one of them are either as powerful as Blue ranked adventurers or even stronger. Fighting them was impossible without high ranking characters, such as the White ranked adventurers or high class mages from Xyphon.
I am worried about what they can do when they meet a low ranking adventurer or regular knights, so I asked the others to aid me in the search by splitting up.
After we split up, we found two more demon spy squads.
The situation has surely made me pissed when I heard a group of demon squad burned an entire village on the east, that is fairly close to the desert. I was surely turned mad when I heard that, because I was away at the time looking for those assholes.
But then the word that Jonus has returned and aided in the demon subjugation made me relieved. Only three people were killed at the attack by the demons, while all the other villagers were fully saved. All thanks to Jonus.
He met us around two weeks ago, when all those things were happening. He will also take part in the fight against the demon king, and he returns immediately from his usual super long mission after hearing that the demons have gone more active.
Now, there are two teams with White ranked adventurers in the kingdom, looking for more demons to kill.
But ever since the winter season began, there have not been any sightings. Even the demons know how dangerous winter can be. So during this winter, we just sit back in our homes and relax. Because nothing is happening outside due to the weather.
Even this temperature might actually kill me if I'm not careful. Hell, I even got scared bathing due to the cold waters.
Though, I do have a bathtub now, and I can cook the water using my fire magic. But the water will be either too hot or too cold. In the end, it's the same as the showers.
So this morning, I decided not to take a bath again. And this is the fourth day I didn't bathe, because last time I nearly cooked my skin from setting the water on the bathtub too hot.
I looked outside after waking up from the sofa, only to find that the skies are still quite cloudy, and the snow is still falling.
Winter… can suck sometimes.
Well, at least I got infinite food supplies.
Before the winter came, I requested a ton of food ingredients from my man Urek, and he gave me quite a number of the things I have asked him.
I also asked Hod to pour his ice magic into a magic crystal that can save magic. A similar technique that Urek used to save his vegetables from rotting. Basically like a refrigerator, but with magic.
With this much vegetables, plus the refrigerator, it should last for around one more week.
And this snow can't be up for a whole week, right?
At noon, the sun finally shows up, and the snow has stopped falling completely. I opened my front door and walked outside, only to be dropped by a ton of snow from my front balcony.
The snow around me melted as I wore my pissed off face. I quickly started flying and started flaming the snow on my house. I have to be very careful, or else I might burn the house.
After clearing my house off the snow, I went back inside and grabbed my communication crystal from the table in my bedroom. The communication crystal for my team.
"Hello, hello? Anyone there?"
I called the crystal. There wasn't any reply until a while later when Rath finally spoke.
"Hey there, captain! How's your morning?"
"Not bad. I got slammed down by a mountain of snow on top of my front balcony. How is everyone?"
"Probably also cleaning their homes from snow as well."
Me and Rath talked for a few minutes while waiting for the others. One by one, the team members started replying and finally a full squad was on the call, with Cane showing up last.
"So, are we going to do a mission today?"
I asked them, and did not wait long for a psychotic answer.
"Yes, please! I am so itchy to kill something!"
"Wow, Emily… Aren't you a sadistic one."
I asked them, and Emily was the first to answer.
"Sure, I guess we can do a mission today."
"Agreed! Let's do one today!"
Fran and Brod replied, and now just Cane.
"You know, I think I might be getting sick-"
"Fuck with your 'sickness', Cane. I'm a healing mage. Get your ass up."
Cane quickly turned shocked after I called him out. I knew he was just being lazy and not really sick.
We all decided to go on a mission that day just to clear our heads from having to stay in the house for too long. And I was right, Cane wasn't sick.
.
We finished the mission around the afternoon, and the sun is already going down.
"What the hell? The sun is already going down."
Cane said as he peeked out the window of the carriage. He was a little bit pissed that he had to go out and do a mission with us, and here he is complaining that the sun is going down again.
"Because that's how winter works, doof. The sun goes up late and goes down quicker."
"I know that! I'm just saying."
Fran chuckled after hearing Cane's answer, and Cane looked more pissed than before.
We arrived in the kingdom and headed to the Office, only to find it is rather rowdy here. A crowd has formed right in front of the receptionist desk, and we can hear people shouting from the center of it.
"Oh, what is it again now?"
I mumbled while entering the crowd. I pushed myself in, and my teammates did the same.
We arrived at the front, and found a group of people shouting at the receptionist ladies, while some adventurers were defending them. From their attires, the people shouting looked like villagers, and they seemed to be quite mad about something.
The adventurers defending the receptionists were quite overwhelmed by the villagers, so we began moving in.
