Chrissy's head felt heavy as she moved uncomfortably on the soft surface she lay upon. She opened her eyes, slowly as her vision blurred into focus and her body ached as she shifted herself onto her elbows. She took in the small room she lay in; posters of metal bands lined the wall; cassettes were littered upon the floor and beside her lay a black and white electric guitar.
There was a shuffling before a tall boy, her age with long dark messy hair came running in, his arms full of more cassettes which he lazily threw to the floor.
It was coming back to her now, the memories. She had come to Eddie's caravan to buy drugs, to numb the visions and sounds she had been hearing. Eddie had been so kind to her before her world went dark. One minute she had been here, the next she was back in her house, her mother's words repeating in her head, the clock chiming.
'Eddie…' He whipped round quickly from the floor of his room in shock of her small voice.
'Chrissy! Oh thank god I was starting to worry you wouldn't wake up!' he was sat beside her now, worry lacing his features as he readjusted the guitar to his lap.
'W… What happened? I wasn't… I wasn't here, I was somewhere else…' she sat up fully, focussing on her aching arms, her face laced with confusion.
'You were here! Scared me half to death! One minute we were talking the next you were levitating and convulsing at the same time! I don't know what kind of voodoo crap you get up to but I aint ready for it!" my music seemed to be the only thing that brought you out of it!' he was eying her up cautiously, guitar ready in his hand in case she had another episode.
Chrissy gazed around the room once more, the radio was playing heavy metal at full blast, the cassettes, the guitar – he had managed to bring her back and seemed to be preparing himself for if it happened again.
'What? I don't understand! What's happening to me?!' she felt like all her feelings came out at once, she brought her hands up to her face as she broke down, crying immensely in front of Eddie.
At first he wasn't sure what to do, worrying he probably may have contributed to the emotional outburst. He wrapped his arms around her cautiously, awkwardly as she relaxed into him.
'It's okay, you're okay. Whatever it was, you seem okay now, right?' he rubbed her back in an attempt to comfort her.
Her cries slowed, appreciating the embrace as she thought over his words. He was right, whatever had happened to her, whatever was happening, she was okay now, she had survived.
