I wasn't sure how long it had been since we decided to rest. I wasn't sure how long it would be until we either continued on with a passed out Eve, or until help arrived. Over time, I had grown comfortable, leaning back against a wall with Eve's head cradeled in my lap, his eyes still closed and his breathing still slowed and shallow. And the next thing I knew, the doors were thrown open with a flurry of murmurs and footsteps. "Amelia!" "Shelby!" Someone even gasped, from what sounded like both horror and concern. "Eve?!" I looked up, wondering who had finally found their way to our location. "Narissa?" I exclaimed, watching as the blonde hurried over with her butterfly wings, her face pitched with worry and concern. She knelt next to Eve, her eyes fixed on his bandaged stomach, one of her hands resting on top of his. I didn't know much about their dynamic, but they seemed to be close. Like best friends, or maybe even childhood sweethearts. He usually hung out with her after classes or on the weekends. "You dumbass..." She murmured under her breath, squeezing his hand. Then she looked up at me. "I can help. He won't wake up, but his injury will heal properly. You two need to keep chasing down that bastard with the kid before he gets away!" I looked over at Amelia, who gave a small, subtle nod in return. I then looked down at Eve, and gently moved his head off my lap, carefully placing it on the ground instead. "Then we'll keep going. You take care of him and get him out of this place before he gets worse." And then Amelia and I were off, with only each other for company and backup, prepared to face this villain once and for all.
