The soldiers turned to look.
The man and woman walking side by side at the village entrance stood out immediately. The man was tall and striking, with black hair tied back but some wild strands falling over his forehead, clearly tied in a carefree manner.
The woman was also strikingly beautiful, with a heroic air about her; her dyed green hair seemed to exude a rebellious spirit… These two stood out starkly from the style of the island's populace, making it obvious they were outsiders.
"Who are they?" Asked a self-defense officer in a white cloak, his hands behind his back, addressing the villagers.
The local village chief, adorned with beautiful feathers, looked confused and replied, "I've never seen them before…"
"Thank you for your trouble, everyone!" Liam boldly walked over, waving his hand. "Excuse me, is there an Eternal Pose for sale on this island?"
The soldiers exchanged glances, then looked at their senior officer.
The locals, all wrapped in white robes and adorned with feathers, were momentarily speechless but replied honestly, "Our island's navigation skills are quite backward, so not many people go to sea, and there are even fewer Log Poses in circulation."
"Seriously?" Liam looked up at the sky.
He had come all this way only to find it was a wasted trip.
The officer in white frowned and asked, "Who are you? Your faces… I feel like I've seen them somewhere! Could you be pirates?"
The surrounding soldiers all gripped their weapons.
Swords were slightly drawn; long guns were taken off their backs, held tightly in both hands; handguns were loaded, and the barrels were raised, ready to aim at the man and woman.
Liam ignored the tense atmosphere and smiled, "If you think we're pirates, then we are. If you think we're not, then we can also not be."
"Nonsense!" The self-defense officer shouted. "Attack!"
With a wave of his hand, the soldiers no longer hesitated, springing into action. Swords were drawn with a clatter, and long guns and handguns were raised, all aimed at Liam and Robin.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Without hesitation, the gun barrels began to spit fire one after another.
The islanders were slightly startled and temporarily retreated.
The soldiers who had drawn their swords watched as the smoke from the gunpowder dissipated, revealing that only one of the two pirates remained standing. Bullets fell from the tall male pirate's body with a "pā dā" sound, but he bore no injuries, only wisps of smoke rising from him.
The girl with the dyed green hair calmly stepped out from behind the tall man's back. She was unharmed as well.
"It seems…" Liam exhaled, dispersing the smoke around him, and said indifferently, "We are pirates!"
"A pirate who can leave an impression on me is indeed not simple!" The self-defense officer in white frowned and issued a command, "Capture them!"
The soldiers of the self-defense forces rushed forward, but it was clear that these nameless grunts, whether from the Marines or the self-defense forces, could not withstand even a second attack from Liam.
"Clang!"
The soldiers' swords struck his neck but made a metallic clanging sound.
Filled with fear and despair, the soldiers found themselves gripped by Liam's large hand around their heads, and with a casual toss, they were flung several meters away, crashing into the roof.
Liam, feeling a bit regretful that he didn't have Hancock's Haoshoku Haki, continued to punch and kick, sending the incoming self-defense soldiers flying.
"That woman! She's the weak point!" The self-defense officer in white shouted.
"Oh? You have a good eye?" Liam walked toward him.
Meanwhile, Robin faced the onslaught of imposing soldiers without changing her expression, not calling for B.I.B.'s help. She casually walked forward, heading toward Liam.
As she walked, the soldiers charging at her suddenly turned pale, losing their color, their foreheads and necks bulging with veins, or their eyes filling with bloodshot veins, as if they were enduring unimaginable pain and pressure… Ultimately, as Robin walked, the soldiers approaching her would automatically collapse to the ground, writhing in agony.
The self-defense officer in white, witnessing this, pointed at Robin and exclaimed in horror, "Haoshoku Haki!?"
Liam nearly stumbled as he saw Robin behind him, shrugging her shoulders innocently and giving him a sly wink.
The self-defense officer broke out in a cold sweat, gasping, "A king's qualification that is one in a million…"
"You know too much, fat pig."
Liam turned around and punched the self-defense officer, sending him spinning backward, blood and teeth flying in an elegant arc through the air.
"Is he really that weak?" Liam was speechless; a senior official in the pirate world should at least have some strength, but he found this guy was indeed not much stronger than ordinary soldiers, just as his Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki) had sensed.
Was this guy just useless, or was the self-defense force system in Mariejois too corrupt?
Behind him, Robin had a group of soldiers lying on the ground moaning, while the nearby villagers silently watched. Liam paid no mind and strode forward, lifting the bloodied officer off the ground, preparing to deliver a kick, when he heard the officer cry out in despair, "Damn Swor! What are you waiting for?!"
'Whoosh—!!'
A sharp, fierce light shot toward Liam from a distance behind him.
Liam didn't turn around but was certain it was a flying slash.
He turned to see a long wave of slashing light cutting through rooftops at a downward angle, sweeping past the fallen soldiers, and unavoidably slicing through Robin's neck, leaving a gash, before continuing toward Liam. It exploded into a shower of energy sparks as it hit him, who stood with one hand on his hip.
'Pū Tōng', the self-defense officer who had just been lifted fell to the ground, cursing, "Damn Swor! Are you trying to cut me down too? Useless, hurry up and take down these two pirates!"
"Chattering, how annoying." Liam turned around and kicked him into the air. "Goodbye."
"Ah..." The annoying voice faded into the distance, seemingly toward the battleship.
Or maybe not. The soldiers lying on the ground were dumbfounded; these pirates were so ruthless?!
B.I.B. lowered its arms, standing protectively beside Robin, coldly watching the swordsman in white, who was slowly approaching from the village entrance. This was the "Damn Swor" mentioned by the officer earlier, and judging by his uniform, he was clearly a member of the Mariejois guard and a subordinate of the officer.
B.I.B. recalled the CP-9 from the manga, where Rob Lucci's strong agents had a useless boss named Spandam. It seemed that unlike the Marine system, the World Government's secret police and self-defense forces were not promoted solely based on strength.
The swordsman in white, Swor, approached slowly, looking down at the fallen soldiers with indifference. "You all go back to the battleship; I'll handle these two."
The soldiers struggled to get up, intending to protest, but in the blink of an eye, they were misled into thinking that the tall male pirate, who had just been over there, had somehow advanced to stand right in front of the seemingly calm Swor.
The man's knee was almost about to collide with Swor's face, which was just beginning to show surprise…
'Bang!'
Liam delivered a flying knee strike, sending the caught-off-guard swordsman in white flying several dozen meters away, rolling and crashing out of the village entrance, leaving a long scar on the ground.
Liam lowered his leg, dusted off his pants, and huffed, "I really don't understand who allowed you to act all high and mighty here."
