Once upon a time there was a bunny.
Now, this was no ordinary bunny, this bunny was pink with long skinny arms and long skinny legs. This bunny had long floppy ears and I think that was how he got his name. His name was "Floppy Ears".
Floppy Ears was packing his bags for summer camp, his excitement building with every item he stuffed into his suitcase. Sunshine Bunny, on the other hand, was looking more and more glum.
"Hey, Sunshine," Floppy Ears said, noticing her almost in tears. "I know you're going to miss me, but I'll be back before you know it. And I promise I'll think about you every day."
Sunshine Bunny sniffled. "But what if you forget about me? You'll be away for a whole week!"
Floppy Ears smiled. "I would never forget about you, Sunshine. But just in case, I've come up with a plan to make sure you stay on my mind."
He pulled out a small notebook and began to scribble some notes. "I'll write you a note every day, just for you. You can read it at breakfast, and I'll think about the note when I'm eating my breakfast at camp, that way we will be thinking about each other at the same time."
Sunshine Bunny's eyes lit up. "Really? You'll write me a note for every day?"
Floppy Ears nodded. "I will leave them with mom to give to you. And that's not all. I'll draw pictures too! You can put them on your pillow every night before bed."
Sunshine Bunny's tears began to dry up as she saw the thoughtful look on Floppy Ears' face.
"Mom will put them on your pillow," Floppy Ears said, "and I'll include a little sleep tight note on each one. That way, you'll know I'm thinking about you all the time."
Sunshine Bunny smiled, feeling a little better. "You're the bestest brother in the world, Floppy Ears."
Floppy Ears grinned back at her. "You're the best little sister in the world, Sunshine! And don't worry, I'll be back before you know it. We'll have so much to catch up on!"
As they hugged goodbye, Floppy Ears could feel Sunshine Bunny's sadness lifting. He knew that his little sister would be okay, even if he was away for a week.
And when he returned from camp, he was greeted with a big hug and a beaming smile from Sunshine Bunny. She had missed him, but the letters make it ok, of course she was thrilled to have him back home where he belonged.
Floppy Ears smiled back at her, feeling happy to be reunited with his sister. He knew that their special bond was stronger than any distance or separation.
