On the first day of March, in the third year of Yongzheng, the selection of Fine Ladies began.
This was the Fifth Prince's second birthday and the first one to be celebrated grandly. It was also the first imperial selection during the reign of Yongzheng.
Just like entering the Forbidden City through the Shenwu Gate, the Fine Ladies proceeded from the Zhengshun Gate. On the other hand, the members of the Imperial Clan and ministers who came to congratulate the Fifth Prince entered through the Shunzhen Gate.
The Fine Ladies dared not look around much and, with their heads lowered, meekly followed the eunuchs and Sisters as they walked further in. However, they weren't allowed to enter directly. The first round of examination and reviews began at a pavilion inside the Zhengshun Gate.
Everyone had to undergo inspection before getting a chance to enter.
