Mito looked down at her son.
Arata was a mess—crying, sniffling, wiping his nose on his sleeve while begging,
"Kacchan, I swear I won't skip class again! Please! Just put me down!"
Mito stayed silent for a moment. Then she said, "Sakura."
Suddenly, from behind a tree nearby, a young girl stepped out.
She was around a year younger than Arata, with long red hair and sharp, curious eyes.
Her name was Sakura Uzumaki, part of the Uzumaki clan's side branch. She didn't have the famous chakra chains or Kagura's eyes—but her chakra reserves were massive, like a small Tailed Beast.
Sakura was also Mito's personal student. Trained by the same woman who invented the chakra chains currently pinning Arata down like a captured criminal.
When Arata saw her, his face turned pale with embarrassment.
"Oh no," he muttered. "Not her. Anyone but her…"
Mito gave one last cold stare at her son.
"Don't ever think about skipping class again," she said calmly.
Then she turned and walked back inside the Senju compound, her steps echoing like judgment itself.
As soon as she disappeared, Sakura stepped closer with a smug little smile on her face.
"Yo," she said, tilting her head. "You alive, Young Lord?"
Arata groaned.
"Don't rub it in, Sakura…"
She grinned, bending over slightly with a teasing tone. "Need help standing up? Or should I get your mom again?"
Arata quickly reached out and grabbed her hand, muttering, "It's okay, let's go before Kacchan comes back…"
Sakura helped him up. She was only eleven, about 1.58 meters tall, wearing her usual grey and white short-sleeved jumpsuit and ninja stockings. Her long red hair was tied with a pink rubber band clip that bounced a little as she moved.
Once Arata was on his feet, she placed a glowing hand on his back. Healing chakra spread through his body, soothing the sting left by the chakra chain.
"Better?" she asked.
Arata sighed in relief. "Yeah. Thanks."
"Alright then," she said, grabbing his wrist. "Let's go, idiot."
They both started jogging toward the academy.
Unknown to them, Mito peeked from behind the compound gate, arms crossed.
She smirked.
"So he does listen when it counts."
Then, without a word, she turned and went back inside.
But inside Sakura's heart, things were different when it came to Arata.
Yeah… she liked him.
She still remembered that day when she was six. Her sensei, Mito, had scolded her for sneaking out of the orphanage. Back then, she was all alone—her parents had died from some weird chakra sickness later called "chakra cancer." After that, she was brought to Konoha when part of the Uzumaki clan moved from the Land of Whirlpools. That's when Mito-sensei took her in as her personal student.
Why? Because Sakura showed interest in sealing jutsu.
From that moment on, Sakura always saw Arata from the side. He was kind, always smiling, and had this warm, bright aura around him. He never treated her like an outsider—never once. He even helped her when others made fun of her red hair or called her a weirdo Uzumaki.
And when he stood up for her?
That was it.
She was in awe.
She saw him talk to the Shadow Hokage like a boss. He even helped rewrite some academy rules. One time she overheard Mito-sensei saying, "If it weren't for Arata, the war might not have ended peacefully. The Senju and Uchiha came together 'cause of him."
Sakura could also sense chakra—yeah, that's a thing with Uzumakis. And Arata's chakra? Way more than the Senju clan head. Maybe even more than the Hokage himself. It was wild.
So, over time, she kept watching him.
His smile.
His kindness.
The way he cared for everyone.
And... she started falling for him.
But then… she heard he might marry that Uchiha girl.
Something inside her snapped.
"Fine," she thought. "If I get strong enough, I'll challenge that Uchiha girl. And I'll win Arata's hand myself."
Yup. That was her plan.
She imagined a future where she and Arata had kids and lived happily. But no way she was gonna act soft. Nope. She had to act tough. She believed:
"If Arata is like Hashirama—the First Shadow Hokage—then I'll be like Mito-sensei, the strongest Uzumaki woman."
Perfect couple, right?
As they jogged toward the academy, Sakura looked at her hand—Arata was still holding it. She blushed, but quickly hid it. No way was she going to act like some shy-type girl.
"I'm a strong woman. Act like it," she told herself.
She was in a different class anyway. Her schedule and Arata's didn't match. She usually only came to the academy to give exams. The rest of the time she trained directly with Mito-sensei.
As they passed a row of jewelry shops, Sakura's eyes stopped at one display. Arata noticed it.
He glanced at her, then looked at the shop window.
Sakura was lost in her thoughts again, dreaming. "One day... when I defeat that Uchiha girl, and marry Arata... he'll buy me that Marrage Ring. Yeah, ONLY TO HER !"
They finally reached the ninja academy gates. Just before entering, Arata suddenly stopped.
"Wait," he said.
Poof! A small puff of smoke appeared in his hand.
"Here," he said, smiling. "Give me your hand."
Sakura blinked. "Huh?"
Still, she gave him her hand. And then—he placed a small green hairpin in her palm.
"I saw you looking at this one a lot near the jewelry store," he said. "It's your favorite color, right?"
Her heart skipped a beat.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
But she didn't act flustered like Hinata would. Nah.
She just blushed, looked away fast, and muttered, "I'm going back to the Senju compound. Mito-sensei's lesson is starting."
Then she ran off.
Arata blinked. "...What just happened?"
He scratched his head and sighed. "Man, today's gonna be such a boring day without her around."
Arata sighed.
His boots clicked as he walked. He quickly used the Body Flicker Jutsu to switch places with the WoodClone he kept in class as a decoy.
Now sitting at his desk, Arata looked around. Everyone else was focused on the instructor, who was teaching about chakra nature.
Arata sighed again. He cast a Genjutsu on himself to make it look like he was paying attention, but really, his head was down. Only someone above Jonin rank could even notice the illusion. If any Nara clan members ever found out about this Genjutsu, they'd probably trade half their clan's secret scrolls just to get it—especially the guys.
Arata closed his eyes and entered his mindscape.
It used to be dark and stormy, but after Kurama left, he changed it. Now, it was a peaceful forest with a clear sky and a calm lake. He sat under a tree, leaning back.
"I miss Kurama," Arata muttered.
"Don't worry, host. He'll be back in a few weeks—maybe a month," the System replied.
Arata sighed. "Hey, System... why are you giving me missions now? I mean... I know the truth."
"It's simple. I've got tons of rewards for you, but I can't just hand them over. If I give you everything directly, your body will go boom-boom—like literally explode. So missions are the safer way. Once you absorb Shibai Otsutsuki's body, you'll be able to handle it better."
"Yeah... that makes sense. I get your logic," Arata said.
"Still worried about Kurama?" the System asked.
"Yeah... I remember the times I used to visit him."
