Red's POV
As expected, Destiny tried her best to act as if she were a different person. She really thought I didn't recognize her. She insisted she was Destiny Gambardi, a stranger.
Lela warned me. She told me Destiny had changed, that she was different now. But knowing it and seeing it with my own eyes were two completely different things.
It wasn't just her face and name that had changed. It was her.
The pain, the trauma—they had carved themselves into her very existence.
Every time I looked at her, it felt like a knife twisting deeper into my chest.
I couldn't explain the pain of seeing her like this, of knowing that the fire she once had—the spark that made her who she was—was now extinguished.
And worse?
She pretended not to recognize me.
Or maybe she didn't want to acknowledge me; could she have amnesia? Or is she just a good actress?
