I tried my best to keep my emotions in check—for the sake of my friend, for the sake of avoiding unnecessary drama. I didn't want to make a scene. I really didn't.
But how could I remain calm when my ex was standing right before our table?
My heart pounded erratically, a rhythm I had no control over, my pulse thrumming in my ears. I didn't expect to see him here. I didn't want to see him here. Yet, here he was—intruding on what was supposed to be a simple, peaceful evening.
His voice, smooth as ever, cut through the restaurant's low hum.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, ladies," he said, his tone polite but with that familiar edge of self-assurance. "But I saw you sitting here while I was dining alone, and well... it would be a shame to eat dinner without any company. And since you two are my only friends here, I thought I'd join you—if you wouldn't mind."
