The palm-sized cube had a small Air Step spell inscribed on the bottom side too, along with having a hollow space inside which could be filled with one's liquid mana to keep the four palm-sized cubes fixed in the air.
Worldscribe just had to put some of her liquid mana inside and it would activate on its own. There was no stopping it once it was activated; Damian had designed it as such to not let the trapped individuals turn it off without physically destroying it.
The insane kid was even putting a Protection Shield spell into it, but that would have made the Volatile Zone activation spell less effective, reducing its duration to less than 3 hours before the cubes got damaged on their own, so Worldscribe didn't let him do it.
