Chelsea's defenders were razor-focused.
Christensen and Gary Cahill closed in on Sterling, flanking him from either side.
Seeing the pressure, Sterling didn't try to go it alone. Instead, he made a quick pass, showing a sharp understanding of the game.
In an instant, the ball found its way to Jesus.
Jesus had been playing impressively all night, and now he saw his chance. But as he prepared to shoot, Chelsea's goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, leaped into action!
Right then, Courtois displayed his world-class skill. With a perfectly timed leap, he stretched out his right hand, stopping Jesus' shot right on the goal line!
It was a stunning save.
The Stamford Bridge crowd erupted, tens of thousands of fans roaring with excitement!
The match pressed on, but time was running out for Manchester City. The game had entered stoppage time, with only three minutes left.
Despite their best efforts, Manchester City couldn't find a last-minute miracle. The final whistle blew, and the score stood at four to three. Chelsea, the defending champions, had secured the victory in a thrilling match.
The stands at Stamford Bridge resounded with applause, not only for Chelsea's players but also in respect for the Manchester City side. Tonight, both teams had given their all, showcasing incredible talent in attack and defense.
As the referee's whistle echoed through the stadium, every player on both teams was visibly exhausted. Though Manchester City had come up short, they'd fought valiantly and could leave with heads held high.
After the match, Guardiola spoke to the press, reflecting on his team's performance.
"I couldn't be prouder of every one of my players," he said. "Although we lost, we played at our best tonight."
"Chelsea is a fantastic team, and beating them is never easy. But I'm proud of our players' performances. Tactically, we did everything we could."
He added with a smile, "It's a shame we couldn't contain Su Luo's drives. He put immense pressure on our defense. And of course, Chelsea has many great players like Cesc Fabregas, which makes them such a formidable team."
"Now, we'll shift our focus to the next match. I'm confident we'll come back stronger!"
Chelsea's head coach, Antonio Conte, also shared his thoughts after the game.
"Manchester City challenged us in every way," he admitted. "But I'm thrilled that we held our ground and took the win here at Stamford Bridge. Our players gave it their all until the final whistle."
