Chapter 28 - Reveal

The sun had risen from its slumber and illuminating the entire world.

Li Kong had stopped sobbing and quietly made his way back home with White who had been silent for the entire time.

Quickly after Li Kong arrived on the village but to his surprise, he didn't see other people walking around in the village and a faint threads of mist appeared on his vision, slightly blurring the view afar.

Seeing the unusual appearances of the mist, Li Kong's senses peaked to the highest and his eyes started moving in a fast pace, scanning the entire place as he slowly treaded his way.

"Did your village usually has mist sitting around, Li Kong?" White also sensing the strangeness of the situation immediately asked Li Kong.

Li Kong shook his head and said, "No. This is the first time."

Realizing the peculiarity of the situation, Li Kong roamed around the village but he had met no one.

Anxiety started to building up inside of him but fortunately after another minutes of searching, he caught the sight of the crowd gathered nearby the farm.

Watching everybody else was talking with each other without any problems, Li Kong finally relaxed the tension in his body and let out a sigh of relief.

"Yo, Li Kong! What are you doing here?" Suddenly a high-pitched voice entered his ears but before he could turned his head completely to see who it was, something crashed onto his back causing his body to be thrown off balance.

Li Kong quickly positioned his head and let his body natural motion moved forward as he rolled on the ground and landed safely on his feet before he sent a glare onto the figure of a young girl behind him.

"Would you believe me if I say that I accidentally pushed you too hard?" The young girl, Tang Xia, smiled wryly.

"What's wrong with you? Are you out of your mind? Why did you push me all of a sudden?!" Blood rushed to his head as he walked slowly toward her.

"Eek!" Tang Xia, realizing she had messed up this time, slowly stepped backwards while reaching her hands out to Li Kong and tried the peaceful way out.

Unfortunately for her, her words fell into a deaf ears as Li Kong continued his march and left without any choice, Tang Xia tried to skedaddle out of this situation before something was pressed against her back and she quickly turned to find Yu Mei was standing behind her.

Tang Xia was shocked because of the Yu Mei's sudden appearance before she felt that the heaven had answered her prayer as she instantly worked out her feet and hid behind her.

"Sister Yu!" Tang Xia cried out, sounding as pitiful as she possibly could.

"Look!" Tang Xia pointed at the demonic expression on top of Li Kong's face.

"Li Kong tried to bully me! Please do something sister Yu!" A single strike of tear even formed on the very corner of her eye.

Li Kong, who was seething in anger, fell even deeper into it. His breathing roughened up and each of his footsteps becoming louder as he continued to approach Tang Xia.

On the other hand, Yu Mei who had just arrived was left speechless and confused at the sudden situation but already accustomed to her friends' antics, Yu Mei sighed before raising her hand out in the air and striking down the smiling fox behind her.

"Aiya!" Tang Xia cried out with her head facing the ground as she hold her head dearly.

"Geez. Do you really think I didn't saw what you did earlier?" Yu Mei was exasperated by her friend's intelligence.

"But you didn't have to hit that hard, sister Yu!" Tang Xia stared Yu Mei with a gaze full of pain that was before the second strike coming down from above landed squarely on top of her head and sending a wave of pain coursing through her skull.

"Ah!!!" Tang Xia screamed out.

The shock of the strike sent her feet weak. She dropped down, crouching on the ground while firmly holding her head as if it would break in half if she didn't hold it together

Yu Mei stood with her mouth covered before she turned her attention to the side and there Li Kong was standing, absolutely unperturbed, while swatting off the dust from his clothes.

It seemed Tang Xia had recovered from the impact of the strike as she quickly stood up and glared at Li Kong.

"You! What would you do if my head cracked open like melons? Hah, hah?" Anger clouded her entire mind as the fear from before had ceased to exist and she closed the gap between her and Li Kong.

Hearing her, Li Kong whiffed a mocking sound before saying, "As if there was something inside your head."

"Excuse me?!" Tang Xia raised her voice, absolutely offended.

"I'm not the one with the word "empty" written on his name."

Li Kong didn't think much of it and replied, "Yeah. Because no one need it to tell your head was completely empty."

"You!!! Take back your words!" Tang Xia stomped her foot and glared at him which Li Kong answered by glaring back at him.

On the onlooker side, Yu Mei feeling headaches started to infiltrate deep within her mind as she was the chaos unfolded right before her eyes.

"Listen here, you guys."

The words managed to grab both of their attentions but before they realized, Yu Mei's fingers had reached both of their ears and pinched on it as hard as she possibly could while slowly pulling them into her side.

"Ah, ah, ah!" Li Kong cried out while trying to release the fingers on his ear.

While on the other side, Tang Xia was in the same predicament as him too as she started squealing.

"Could you both not do something stupid every single time you meet?" Yu Mei unknowingly gritted her teeth and strengthened her grip on their ears.

The increase of the strength sent them further deep into the pit of agony as their combined volume soared.

"Yu Mei, Yu Mei! It'll tore off! It'll tore off!" Li Kong desperately endured the pain and yelled.

"Sister Yu! I'm sorry! I'm really sorry! Please let my ears go!" A genuine tears finally flowed out from her.

Hearing the plea coming from them both, Yu Mei released her fingers off their ears and they began to tend their flaming hot ears.

'I feel like I've seen this somewhere.' Yu Mei mused before sighing again.

After that, Yu Mei commanded them to make up with each other and after a begrudgingly and unnecessarily long scene, Li Kong and Tang Xia reluctantly shook each other hand.

Then not long after, when they walked to the crowd around the farm, Li Kong and Tang Xia started talking again like nothing ever happened before.

"Do you notice something strange, Li Kong?" Tang Xia's head poking out in his vision.

"Yeah, your gigantic forehead." Li Kong said without much thoughts.

"Hey! What did you mean by gigantic? Ugh! It doesn't matter for now. Don't you notice the mist in the village?"

Hearing the mention of the mist, Li Kong's expression turned serious and it was caught by Yu Mei at a glance.

"Isn't it weird that mist suddenly appeared like this in the village? This is the first time, no?"

"Yeah. It's the first." Li Kong's voice dropped low.

"Hmm? Why do you suddenly looked like that? Do you have your period on or something?" Tang Xia sensed a strange feeling from his tone and immediately checked at his well-being.

"Tang Xia." Yu Mei suddenly called for her.

"What is it, sister?" Tang Xia answered her sister's call swiftly.

"I just remembered Li Kong and I have something to take care of some important things so don't worry about us and go first."

"Something to take care of?" Tang Xia tilted her head to the side and pondered for a moment before something seemed to flash on her mind as her lips pursed into a big grin.

"Ohh... That kind of thing, huh?" Tang Xia quickly got to her sister's side and nudged her with her elbows.

"Since when did you become this brave, sister?" Tang Xia said teasingly.

Yu Mei caught on the meaning of her words and immediately hid her eyes beneath her bangs as her cheek flushed in rosy red in an instant.

"N-No... Not that." Yu Mei's voice slowly lost its strength.

"Sure, sure, I understand sister Yu. I understand it." Tang Xia said while wearing the widest grin in the world.

'What exactly do you understand!' Yu Mei cried out in her heart.

"Now please excuse me and I hope the both of you quickly take care of the important matter. Bye!" Tang Xia waved to them as she ran to the farm.

Looking at the dispersing figure, Li Kong's complexion was filled with utter bewilderment and then, he turned his head to face Yu Mei before asking, "What's wrong with that kid today?"

"Nothing... Nothing." Yu Mei said quietly.

After that, Yu Mei finally recovered and cleared her throat before looking at Li Kong with demanding eyes.

"Isn't there something you should tell me about?"

Li Kong nodded before replying, "Yeah. But I tell you while we walk to uncle Ye's house."

The pair started walking and simultaneously Li Kong began to tell his part of the story.

Yu Mei listened to every part of the story attentively and when the story had finally reached a certain point, Yu Mei's eyes widened in shock and her jaw couldn't hold its weight as it dropped down.

"Li Kong... I'm sorry." Yu Mei placed her hand on his shoulder.

Tears welled up from the depth of his heart but he quickly regained his mind's clarity and with a weak, melancholic smile, he said, "I'm okay now. Don't worry about me."

"But still–" His gaze turned sharp and chilling. "–I won't forgive him. I'll make him pay back thousand times more. I promise."

Li Kong bit his lower lips and his fists turned into knuckles.

"I promise."

Yu Mei looked at Li Kong with worried gaze but in the end, she decided to do nothing and walked silently besides him.

"So?" Yu Mei broke off the silence. "Did you finally know who's the culprit is?"

Li Kong nodded silently.

Seeing the almost-instant confirmation, Yu Mei widened her eyes in utter shock and stared Li Kong in disbelief.

"Really? Who was it then?" Yu Men probed him for answers.

"It was..." Li Kong suddenly stopped talking. His eyes focused solely to the person standing before him.

Yu Mei was about to file a complaint to Li Kong before she noticed his weird behavior and tracked his line of sight and there she found the figure of a man cladded in white, wearing his usual smile, almost a smirk, on his face walking to their location but seemingly hadn't noticed they were there yet.

It was the doctor, Yan Dangxin.

The doctor seemed to have noticed them and he waved his left hand while his right hand was put on his back.

Seeing the approaching doctor, Yu Mei saw Li Kong's eyes trembling and his breath become ragged with each breath he took.

Seeing the Li Kong's abnormal behavior, confusion was apparent on Yu Mei's expression as she continued to watch the doctor approaching them in a slow pace.

"Coincidence meeting you here, Li Kong." The doctor greeted him with his usual smile.

"Doctor." Yu Mei subconsciously muttered.

The doctor happened to hear Yu Mei's quiet sound and he immediately turned his head facing Yu Mei.

"Oh, pardon me. I don't realize the chief's daughter is here too. Please humbly accept my apologies, miss." The doctor bowed deeply to Yu Mei.

Yu Mei was taken back from the doctor sudden action and unsure of what she should but before she could think of what to do, Li Kong's hand already pushing her away from the doctor as he extended his left hand between Yu Mei and the doctor.

"Do not get closer." Li Kong warned the doctor with a stern voice.

"Oh?" The doctor seemed surprised before the look on his face changed to cheerful expression as he said, "I'm sorry, Li Kong! I don't know that you two had already turned into lovebirds. It truly is a mistake on my side."

Even though, the doctor had apologized many times but Li Kong still didn't withdraw his sharp gaze on the doctor.

Shortly after, the doctor had done apologizing to Li Kong and shifted his attention back to Yu Mei and bowed down again but this time, he took the precaution to take a few steps backwards first before apologizing.

Yu Mei looking on everything as if she was in a trance. The doctor all of a sudden sent rounds of apologies to the both of them and though she knew the doctor held a huge respect for her father but she never seen the doctor apologizing to his father as much as he done it to her.

Furthermore, the usual jab at her and Li Kong's relationship would usually sent her into the town of blush but rather than feeling embarrassed, Yu Mei felt like the surrounding faint mist around her were wrapped around her neck and caressing them. Words refused to come out from her throat.

"Doctor." Yu Mei finally able to muster out a word.

"What is it, miss?" The doctor asked while smiling.

"Where..." The doctor listened carefully.

"Where did you go earlier?"

"Ah..." The doctor let out a sound before sighing and said, "I was just visiting a friend's house. Here look. That's his house right there." The doctor pointed at a certain house on his back.

The pair quickly followed the direction the doctor's finger was pointing and they found the house they had been heading to.

Yu Mei felt like something was unusual with the house and she tried squinting her eyes to get a better look and on the wall of the house, a single streak of a red hue painted the wall.

"Li Kong, be careful!" A light voice rang in her head and following almost immediately was a huge flame surging forward, brushing off her cheek with waves of heat.

After that, before she could fully realized the situation, Li Kong had grabbed her by her waist and retreated dozens a steps away before releasing her to the ground and directed all of his focus to his front.

The surging flame had caused the dusts to fly around the air, creating a smoke that hindered their vision but slowly, a figure of a man could be seen coming from the other side of the smoke and it didn't took long before the figure finally emerged.

His face was charred in black and badly disfigured but even though, part of his hairs and skins were still burning in the flame, a smile remained seared deeply onto his face as his disfigured face skin started wriggling wildly like a worm.

"Playing time is over it seems." Slowly, his charred skin was swallowed and replaced with a brand new one.

"What a shame. I wanted to play some more though." His sunken nose twisted around before standing fine like before.

After that, the man covered his face with both of his palms and shook his face vigorously.

"Tada!" Like performing a magic trick, the doctor released both of his palms and the badly damaged face had turned into the familiar, always smiling face.

The doctor looked at the youths' complexion and an even bigger smile started creeping out from the corner of his lips.

"Now the big, scary hunter had been taken care of. Shall we continue to take on our little hunter here?" With all of the youth's attention directed to him, Yan Dangxin smirked.
