Lily led Stevie and me away from the bustling main streets of the royal capital, heading toward the outskirts. The capital's walls have a double structure: a high wall surrounds the noble district centered around the royal palace, and around that is the residential area where commoners live, enclosed by a relatively lower outer wall. Even though it's called "lower," it's still not something people can easily climb over. This outer wall isn't primarily for defending against sieges, but rather to prevent unknown people or creatures from freely entering the capital from outside.
There are several gates in the outer wall, each guarded by soldiers. Their "inspection" consists of checking a wooden identity tag and collecting one large copper coin — nothing too strict. Unfortunately, there's no system where you place your hand on a magic stone and your status pops up. (I've never seen one anyway.)
