Chapter 29 - The Story of Vexus

"Isn't Vexus... A little on the nose?" Vexalia pointed out with an unamused expression, "Maybe, but it's your namesake." The Water Dragon reminded, "But even so, it was years before humans were sent to the sky." He started narrating.

Thousands of Years Ago.

On the surface, life went on as usual, birds singing, sun shining down on crystal clear water, animals wandering around, and a girl picking up nicely shaped stones from a field, "Shaped like a star~ Not something you see everyday." She said, looking at the unusually shaped rock.

"Hylandra! Where are you?" Someone called out to her, "Right here!" She responded, still picking rocks, "Just adding to my collection~" She added cheerfully, as the one calling out to her approached, letting Hylandra look at her dark complexion, and tear shaped markings on her face, "Don't you usually collect metals?" The girl asked in confusion.

The Goddess laughed at that observation, "Unless you dig you won't find any metal, so pebbles will do." She explained with a simple smile on her face, "Besides, you of all people should know the importance of stones, Impa." She noted slyly, making the girl groan.

After that, Impa joined on collecting rocks, finding some pretty weird shapes, and was even able to recreate her markings out of them, "This actually is pretty fun." Impa admitted with a small smile, "What did I tell you?" Hylandra smugly asked, "Shut up." Impa responded.

Present.

"So the Goddess was... Human?" Vexalia asked with uncertainty, "More or less, beings like her are hard to explain." Farore replied, "Okay, but where is this... Vexus?" Vexalia questioned, "You see, while collecting, the two found a stone that was supposed to stay lost." Farore continued.

Thousands of Years Ago.

In Hylandra's room were the new additions to her collections, which included a stone that was a very nice shade of purple and seemed to glow slightly, "What do you think it is?" Impa asked her friend, "I have no idea." Hylandra replied as she focused on the glow, "We could try and see what's inside." She suggested.

That was met by a very firm "NO!" from Impa, who was very against the idea, "Glowing and purple, usually means very bad." She reasoned, remembering other incidents, "But it's also the color of flowers." Hylandra countered, "Which is the same excuse you used every other time." Impa replied with a more stern tone.

"I'm gonna open it." Hylandra decided, grabbing the stone, much to Impa's dismay, "When it blows up in your face, don't say I didn't warn you." The dark skinned girl told her, watching as her friend tried using her hands to split the rock open, and eventually succeed, revealing nothing inside, "...That's disappo-Ow!" Hylandra let out as she pricked her finger on the split edge, getting some rainbow blood out.

The blood came in contact with the inside of the stone, turning from rainbow to purple as it fell to the floor, "Nothing exploded and you still got hurt." Impa scolded as she went to get some band-aids, and with Hylandra following, neither noticed how the blood on the floor was pulsating.

Present.

"I'm sure you know what came of that blood." Farore mused, looking in the direction of the sealed grounds, "The Harbringer of Demsise..." Vexalia realized with a blank face, her Goddess was an idiot, "Yes, and with him, came Vexus." Farore added with a nod.

Thousands of Years Ago.

Hylandra was fighting against hordes of demons that came after her, "All this due to a dumb rock!" She lamented as she sliced through two of the demons, "At least you can kill them easily with that holy power of yours!" Impa reprimended, having problems with demons of her own, "I'll be with you in a moment!" Hylandra reassured as she finished off the horde.

As she went to help, all of a sudden, something came barreling through the horde facing Impa, blowing all the demons away as if hey were sand, "What the-" Not even able to finished that, Impa got punched in the face and sent flying towards Hylandra, who luckily caught her in time, "The hell is that!?" Hylandra questioned, looking at the creature covered in black veins and long flowing black hair, with a crazed smile full of sharp teeth.

Present.

"Woah woah! Vexus was a demon!?" Vexalia questioned in shock, "She was a demon." Farore corrected, sounding a little amused, "By far the strongest thing brought forth by the Harbringer of Demise, but also incredibly foolish." The dragon added before bursting out laughing.

The sight confused Vexalia quite a lot, "What's so funny?" She asked in befuddlement, "It's the way she ended up changing sides!" Farore explained, "With a kiss!" They added before continuing on laughing.

Thousands of Years Ago.

The battlefield was paused for quite a bit as the creature known as Vexus took Hylandra and forcefully kissed her as a kind of taunt, leaving Impa in shock at the sight, but it was what happened right after that was surprising.

Three seconds into the kiss, Vexus suddenly pulled away seeming panicked and pushed the Goddess away before checking herself out, and when she saw she was fine, "Hah! Your sorcery is not for meeee..." Vexus drooled out as her movements became sluggish.

The veins covering her body changed from black to white, along with her hair, and when the drowziness passed, as if a switch was turned, she went to check on Hylandra, "Oh shit! Are you okay!?" She asked worriedly.

Present.

That part left Vexalia in a pickle, "So... The holy power changed Vexus?" She asked for clarification, "For the better, she became our best asset against the Harbringer." Farore elaborated, "In fact, she was the one who weakened him enough to be sealed away." The dragon added, "And along with Vexus' death, you can probably figure out the rest." It said cryptically.

Vexalia nodded at that, realizing that that's when the prophecy was written, and when she started being created from what was left of Vexus, "But... Why don't I have anything of Vexus then?" She asked, "The sample was wrong and corrupted by the Harbringer's malice, and you are incomplete, woken up way too early, your body couldn't purge everything." Farore explained.

This made Vexalia slightly angry as she balled up her fist, but Farore then grinned, "I can see though that you are still managing to purge it out, you're way less corrupted than the sample was." It said whimsically, "Eventually you'll see the changes." It reassured before falling asleep in the basin.

"...Still purging?" Vexalia muttered, placing a hand on her eye, wondering if that's what happened, but didn't really pay it any mind at the moment, as she grew tendrils for her journey back ot Skyview Temple.
