Gina stood at the doorway, her lips parting slightly in a smile but the expression on her face shifted to hurt when she saw the scowl on his face.
"Why does it look like you're not happy to see me?" Gina asked softly, her voice laced with confusion.
Damon's gaze didn't soften. If anything, it hardened. "Because your timing couldn't have been worse," he said, his tone flat and unyielding.
Gina blinked, stunned. She tilted her head, as though trying to make sense of his words. "Excuse you? You invited me," she pointed out, crossing her arms.
"A mistake," Damon muttered. "A mistake I've been regretting since the moment I saw you standing here."
Her frown deepened, and a flicker of frustration replaced the hurt in her eyes as Damon's cold words settled between them.
"Dame, you're being a jerk, and that's not like you. Why don't I come in, and we can talk this out?" She tried to step forward, but Damon's body blocked the doorway like an unyielding wall.
