Hunter's heart pounded violently against his ribs as he pulled up in front of Delilah's house. The neighborhood was quiet, but his mind was anything but.
He shouldn't have listened to any of them. He shouldn't have stayed away from Delilah. He should have followed his heart. He should have listened to his damn instincts and reach out to her. He should have called or gone to her office to see her. Maybe if he had done that none of this would have happened.
He shoved the car door open and stepped out, moving toward the entrance with quick, determined strides. His breath came fast, his instincts screaming that something was wrong.
When he reached the door, he didn't bother with the doorbell. He unlocked it and walked in to see Ned standing in the living room with his arms crossed, and his expression grim.
"Claudia is not here yet?" Hunter asked without bothering with pleasantries since he knew Ned wasn't interested in that either.
