Chapter 8 - The Ties That Bind

As Luna slowly opened her eyes the next morning, she saw a young man beside her, holding her hand, his arms resting on the bed as he slept in the chair. It looked like he had fallen asleep while watching over her all night.

She couldn't understand what had happened. Her brain was foggy as she looked around—it was clearly her room.

The bed was neatly made, but she couldn't remember going to sleep. Had she really passed out last night? How had she ended up here? And most importantly, who was this man beside her?

"Am I dreaming?" she murmured softly, trying to sit.

That's when the man woke up and asked with concern in his eyes, "Are you okay now? How are you feeling? Any headache?" he immediately placed his hand on her forehead to check her temperature.

She removed his hand away sharply. "Who the hell are you?" she demanded, lifting her head to look at him.

He stirred, his eyes flickering open, and Luna couldn't help but notice how disheveled he looked. His dark hair was messy, as if he had run his hands through it countless times, and the faint stubble on his jaw added to the roughness of his appearance.

His shirt was crumpled, the sleeves rolled up haphazardly, and his posture was slouched from the hours of sitting in the chair. Despite the untidy state, there was something undeniably handsome about him. His sharp jawline and deep, thoughtful eyes had an intensity that, for a moment, left her speechless.

Luna's heart skipped a beat as she studied him, her anger dissipating, replaced by a strange flutter in her chest. She couldn't grasp what it was—maybe it was the way he seemed genuinely concerned for her, or how his presence felt oddly comforting. She blinked, trying to shake the confusion.

"Am I dreaming?"

The man noticed her hesitation and, sensing her confusion, offered a small, almost apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you" his voice low but gentle. "You were unconscious. I—" He paused, as if unsure of how to explain. "You've been out all night and got high fever. So, I just... I was watching over you."

Luna blinked again, her mind racing. This couldn't be real—could it? That's when she realized her appearance. She was in her pajamas, and the disorienting fog in her mind started to clear.

She was awake. This wasn't a dream.

Her pulse quickened as panic flooded her. She didn't know what had happened or how she had ended up here, but she felt exposed, vulnerable.

"Who are you?!" she screamed, her voice shaky with fear and frustration.

"What have you done to me? How dare you change my clothes? How dare you to touch me?"

In a burst of energy, Luna pushed him aside, scrambling to her feet. She grabbed the nearest pillow and swung it at him, her heart pounding in her chest.

"What did you do to me?!" she shouted again, hurling anything within reach—another pillow, a blanket, even a nearby book—at the man, her mind a whirlwind of confusion and panic.

The man, still looking somewhat stunned but far from threatened, raised his hands in mock surrender, laughing softly as he tried to shield himself from the barrage of objects.

"Hey, hey!" he chuckled, ducking as a pillow flew past his head.

"Calm down, I didn't—" he started, but Luna's fury was too overwhelming for him to finish.

Laughter rumbled from his chest, rich and unbothered, as he dodged her relentless attacks. His sharp, well-defined features softened with amusement—dark eyes gleaming with mischief, lips curved into a lopsided smirk, and a faint dimple appearing on one cheek.

His messy hair only added to his effortless charm. Even as he raised an arm to shield himself, his grin remained, teasing and unapologetic, as if he was thoroughly enjoying her reaction.

'What's so funny?!' she yelled, grabbing the nearest book and hurling it at him.

He barely had time to react before it smacked dangerously close to his forehead, grazing the skin just above his eye.

'Ouch!! Are you trying to blind me, woman?!' he hissed, his grin faltering as he instinctively pressed a hand to the spot.

'Serves you right!' she huffed, though a tiny part of her felt guilty seeing the red mark forming on his skin.

"Who will marry me if I go blind? Will you?" he kept teasing her despite the pain, clearly enjoying every moment of it..

"In your dreams!" she snapped, grabbing another pillow, ready to launch it at him again.

As Luna continued her frantic assault, she lost her balance and was about to tumble off the edge of the bed. Before she could fall, the man quickly sprang into action, rushing toward her and catching her just in time. She ended up falling right into his arms, her breath escaping in a startled gasp.

His arms were strong around her, holding her steady as he looked down at her with a mix of concern and amusement. "Can you calm down?" he said gently, his voice low and soothing, his eyes directly locking into hers.

"I'm not the one who changed your clothes." His tone was patient, though there was still a hint of laughter in his eyes as he steadied her in his embrace.

Luna's heart skipped a beat at the sudden closeness. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked up at him, the intensity of his gaze making her feel dizzy. His warm, steady arms were holding her securely, and she could feel the heat radiating off his body, sending a strange flutter through her chest.

For a brief moment, all the panic and confusion seemed to fade away, replaced by something else—something calming, like a quiet clarity washing over her.

Her pulse raced as he pulled her closer, she could feel the steady rhythm of his breathing against her, and his face was just inches from hers, the faint scent of his cologne making her feel even more disoriented.

"I… I don't believe you," Luna stammered, still not able to tear her eyes away from him, her voice shaky as she tried to regain her control.

"You didn't change a bit," he whispered in her ear, his voice sending a tickling sensation that made her heart race.

Luna froze, feeling her cheeks flush at the closeness, her mind swirling in a haze of confusion and something else—something far more unsettling. She was acutely aware of every inch of him, of how his arms were still around her, how their bodies were pressed so close.

But before she could fully process the moment, a voice broke through the tension.

"What are you guys doing?"

They both quickly turned to the door saw Nina standing. The man, in an instant, released Luna, gently setting her back on her feet. As if on cue, they both straightened themselves up, adjusting their clothes and stepping back from one another, creating an awkward distance between them.

Hyunsu smirked, leaning back lazily as if daring her. "So violent," he mused, rubbing the spot near his eye with exaggerated drama.

Luna, still dazed and flushed, quickly ran toward Nina. She opened her mouth to speak, to ask who this man was, but before she could, Nina's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Did you recognize him?" she asked, her voice steady yet tinged with curiosity.

Luna's breath caught in her throat as she glanced back at the man. The recognition hit her like a tidal wave. His face—more mature—was unmistakable. The boy from high school.

A flash of memories flooded her mind: the rude boy with dark eyes, the one who had disappeared without a trace after graduation.

She felt a shock run through her, her voice barely a whisper.

"Hyunsu? your brother?"

The name felt foreign on her lips, but it was undeniably true. The man standing before her was the same boy she had once known so briefly in high school, rude, and often with that air of arrogance—had clearly changed.

He'd always been the type to make quick, sharp remarks, his tousled hair a messy signature of his indifferent attitude.

But now, as she stood before him, she couldn't deny how different he seemed. He had grown into someone who practically radiated a certain cold, confident charisma. His features had sharpened, his jawline more defined, and his eyes, once challenging, now seemed to hold a deeper intensity.

There was no trace of the unruly boy she once knew. Luna blinked again, trying to reconcile the boy from her past with the man standing in front of her. This wasn't the same Hyunsu—the one who always walked with a defiant smirk and a sardonic tone.

This is him?

He looked... dangerous, too confident, too striking. The years had done their work, transforming him from the rebellious teen she remembered into someone who commanded attention just by being there.

Nina, noticing Luna's stunned silence, raised an eyebrow, clearly catching onto her friend's shock. With a mischievous grin, she walked over to Hyunsu and lightly hit him on the shoulder.

"What were you doing to her just now?" she asked, her voice teasing but with an underlying curiosity.

Hyunsu smirked, his eyes gleaming with humor. "Nothing, we were just talking about our first night together and how I changed her clothes."

Luna's eyes went wide, "What first night?" she exclaimed, her face flushing with embarrassment. She quickly bolted toward the restroom, not wanting to hear any more of that conversation, but Hyunsu's laughter followed her as she hurried away.

Nina chuckled, watching Luna retreat. She turned to Hyunsu, still shaking her head in amusement. "You're terrible," she said with a grin, but there was no hiding the affection she felt for her brother's antics.

As Luna's footsteps echoed from the restroom, Nina called after her, "Come out quickly, I got you breakfast. We can talk while eating! Just so you know, I was the one who changed your clothes." She then nudged Hyunsu, signaling that they should move toward the dining area.

The siblings chuckled as they left Luna's room, giving her the space she needed to process everything that had just unfolded.

Luna looked at her reflection in the mirror, a soft laugh escaping her lips as she remembered the chaotic scene. Her cheeks flushed with warmth as certain moments replayed in her mind—moments that made her heart race and her face flush unexpectedly.

"I can't believe I acted like that," she muttered to herself, shaking her head. But then, as the memory of the events slowly pieced together, something clicked in her mind.

"Wait... I passed out at the airport."

Her eyes widened slightly as realization dawned on her.

That's how it happened.
