After a couple of bites of snacks, Han Yingying stood up, wanting to check on Shen Mosheng cooking in the kitchen, when Shen's mom sent a group video call.
She pressed to answer, and the voices of Shen's mom, Shen's dad, Shen Qingyu, and Shen Xinghan came together, "Yingying/sister-in-law, happy birthday."
Han Yingying's eyes warmed with emotion, "Thank you."
Shen's mom asked with a smile, "Do you like the gift we prepared?"
"The gift?"
"It's on the dining table."
"I'll go check it out now, I'm so excited." Han Yingying quickly stood up, supported herself with a crutch to the dining room, placed her phone on a stand, and began to unwrap the gifts.
The gift from Shen's mom was a Little Golden Buddha necklace, roughly the size of a small fingernail, rotund and endearing in a way that made it irresistible to put down.
