Chapter 43 - Finding Detective Grimshaw

The trio moved on from the room and marched onward through the first floor. They moved carefully as the mapping fly drones had detected a number of unique traps.

There were crimson runes in some rooms that they couldn't tell the use of hence they avoided those rooms altogether. There were even hidden devices known as scalpel launchers.

Those traps couldn't do any damage to the operatives due to their durability however so they didn't bother dodging them whenever they appeared.Aside from the nuisances that were the scalpel launchers there were also the needle rooms.

They had recieved alerts that a few rooms had miniscule holes in the floor, walls and ceilings. They didn't want to see what these needle rooms were capable of however so they avoided them just like the runes.

They alerted the other two teams of their findings which they were grateful for. They also recieved the other two teams findings in which they had encountered other types of monsters such as a robotic surgery table and a malformed monster known as an abominable patient.

"I sense movement up ahead." Sure enough they heard the buzzing of insects approaching.

In the dim light created by broken light fixtures they saw a large insectoid monster with a large amount of malformed insects around it rapidly approaching. The monster looked like the cross between a winged Mantis and a rhinoceros beetle and was large enough to fill up the doorway.

Maladus acted quickly and threw a grenade.Maladus had reached the conclusion that he was fighting the insect monster that was dressed like an old fashioned detective.

It looked different but it was still likely weak to fire. The grenade detonated the instant it made contact with the monster.Detective Grimshaw was set ablaze as the grenade took effect.

Alfred Winson who had brought Grimshaw some new skills and upgraded his existing ones in order to aid his battle prowess was left shaking his non existant head.It was ending just like that.

Alfred had been hoping that Grimshaw would give them some pause especially considering he had also given him the fire resistance skill.Seeing Grimshaws carapace melt he immediately felt like he had made a bad investment.

The fire resistance skill was supposed to give a high resistance to flames and high temperatures but it only gave a tiny amount of flame resistance to Grimshaw. The cost and upgrade cost of the skill was also egregious.

Grimshaw died slowly and in agony as his body began to disappear. The operatives walked up to the place where his body was disappearing uncaring of the flames around them.

They had put on respirator masks to avoid inhaling the smoke. The damaged environment was also beginning to repair itself and was attempting to put out the flames.

The operatives moved quickly to retrieve the loot Grimshaw had dropped. He had dropped a metal watch. The metal watch possessed burn marks from the flames but was otherwise in pristine condition.

Maladus watched on as the watch slightly changed size and length to match his onw wrist. As he focused on the watch Maladus's mind was filled with information regarding what was an incredibly powerful technological device.

The device was capable of reliable back and forth time travel. There was one problem though and that was the fact that this would only work with a second watch that was also dropped by Detective Grimshaw.

If one were to travel back in time before they were born without the second watch they would immediately de-age into nothing. If one were to travel forwards in time after the end of their life without the second watch they would immediately age into nothing.

If the person only used the first watch and picked a date within their life in the current timeline then they could travel back and forth whenever they wanted. The first watch also let you know the exact time you were born and the exact time you will die.

In other words this watch was part of a two part set.The problem with time travel was that it was incredibly dangerous and complex. Many noble sorcerors had accidents such as getting stuck in a certain time period or getting stuck in a growing tree because they thought they could master time travel.

"We need to put this somewhere secure and keep it confidential. We can't let the sorcerors use this." Gary took the watch and put it in his storage ring.

"Agreed" Maladus spoke a single word and it was clear that he was in a foul mood.
