The walls of the mansion were cream coloured while the roof was navy blue.
There was a royal feeling to it.
Rumours has it that Gio Wise's ancestors were related to the past royal family. There was no evidence to back this claim however. Besides, Lottie was never interested in the Wise family nor any other noble family.
Lottie was deep in thought before a voice brought her back to the present.
"How are your injuries, Ms Lottie?" Kurt turned towards her and looked at her bare feet. She forgot she lost both her shoes in the forest.
Now that Kurt was asking about it, she felt the sting on her feet. She abruptly stopped to check the cuts on her feet.
"They are hurting slightly but it's nothing serious." She gave a half smile as she continued to walk.
"Old Chris will help tend to your injuries in a while. Just bear with it for now Ms Lottie." They reached a huge hallway filled with portraits hung on the wall.
One portrait caught her eye.
A beautiful lady with jet black hair and eyes the colour of the ocean was before her. Even though it was just a portrait, the lady seemed as cold as ice.
Vervain von Cardell.
Bold strikes with black ink were etched on the frame of the portrait.
"Madame Wise, the General's mother and the wife of the late General." Old Chris sighed as he looked at the beauty on the wall.
"Is she in the mansion now?" Lottie was curious about Gio Wise's mother.
Old Chris had a complicated look in his eyes before he gave a sigh.
He turned to the portrait once again and went on, "No, Madame Wise is not in the mansion, Ms Lottie. She left a decade ago to travel the world after the old General passed away. We have no idea of her whereabouts."
"Is that so?" Lottie was shocked to hear that. She thought that even if Vervain von Cardell were to travel the world, she would at least keep in touch with her son and family.
"To tell you the truth, we are not close with Madame Wise. Even the young General and her are on bad terms." The revelation was one she did not expect.
Thirty years ago, Theo Wise, the young master of the Wise family got married to Vervain von Cardell, the beloved daughter of Ezra von Cardell of the von Cardell's.
Theo loved Vervain.
But the latter detested him.
In short, it was a marriage of convenience.
