After dinner, it wasn't long before Qiqi started feeling sleepy. She had been at school all day, so tiredness was to be expected. Su Mu was about to take Qiqi to bed when Fu Shinian stopped her:
"Take a break, I'll do it."
Ever since Su Mu moved into Bishui Yuntian, Fu Shinian had taken over most of the work of caring for Qiqi. Even when Qiqi used to sleep between them, Fu Shinian would take the job of telling bedtime stories upon himself. He kept Su Mu from doing too much, saying, "You've had a hard three years; what I'm doing now is nothing compared to a ten-thousandth of your effort."
Su Mu didn't have a yardstick for comparison in her heart, but she seemed to be more and more immersed in the tenderness that Fu Shinian gave her. Yet, she had to constantly remind herself to stay rational, given the lessons of the past.
When Fu Shinian returned to the room, Su Mu hadn't fallen asleep yet. She was leaning against the headboard and reading a book. Hearing the noise, she looked up:
