Adriel could have sworn time paused when he saw recognition pass through the deep-brown eyes, life returning to them.
Elijah used the lapse in Ein's focus to strike the inside of his elbow, twisting the gun free with a sharp move.
"Daydreaming?" The scarred man closed in on Ein, moving with predatory intent now that he had the upper hand.
The world rebooted—voices and chaos returned to the scene.
"I-I have a wife!" the barman was still pleading with Dean. "And-and a daughter! She's turning four in two months..."
Dean leaned back a little, but his sternness didn't fade. "If you've got a family, the hell are you doing here? Dealin' drugs and shit."
Elijah occasionally glanced at the barman, checking the situation.
The overhead light cast long shadows across the cracked floor as Ein shifted back, his boots scraping softly against the grit. He purposefully angled himself away from Adriel.
