Eren had no idea what was happening, no clue what Ash had in mind, but a part of him was freaking out. He was trying his best to stay calm. Everything had gone to shit the moment that Hunter had appeared. Though he was unable to see the Maleficant, there was an instinctual sense of dread that he felt. He knew something was there, something dangerous. And he could feel the murderous intention directed at him. But it was only till the Hunter said it, that Eren became sure that he was to blame for what was happening. Ash grabbed his hand and before Eren could say anything, the whole world got covered by darkness. He couldn't describe what had happened. One minute he had been in his bedroom, and the next he was in the local park that was one block from their place. There were swings and rides for the kids who frequent the park. Eren felt the urge to throw up and he did. The content of his stomach came out, all over the muddy ground. After emptying his stomach, he looked up at Ash who wasn't affected by the teleportation. They were close to a tree which had a runic mark on it.
"That's your ability," Eren said. He had never seen Ash use his Magical ability in that way before. This was his first time witnessing him use it.
"Space manipulation," Ash said. "My people had the bloodline ability to control space itself. I can teleport to any location, but I need to mark the place with my Mana."
"Why the park," Eren said.
"The park was the farthest I could shoot my Mana arrow," Ash said. Eren nodded. He slammed his fist on the muddy ground, feeling useless and exasperated. You are going to become a Hunter. Yeah right. You idiot. Eren kept bashing his fists on the ground. He was useless, he felt so stupid. What could he do? What could he have done in that situation? He couldn't see the Maleficant, he was nothing but a burden and he had wanted to stay there and prove himself. He had foolishly thought that was his chance to prove that he could become a Hunter and yet what could he do? Mud splashed everywhere as he cobbled the ground, making a dent in it. All he had was his fists, and it was useless.
"Eren, stop it. Enough," Ash said, grabbing his arm. "We have to-"
"I have to leave," Eren said. He got up to his full height. He was breathing heavily, his mind made up. There was one thing he could do. To protect Ash who was next to him.
"You mean we have to leave," Ash said.
"No. I meant me." Eren said. "That...that thing is after me. Staying with me is only going to put you in danger-"
"Don't be stupid. What in Mene's name can you do," Ash said. Eren froze, staring at Ash. He had never heard him swear before. He recognized the name Menes as the deity to which Ash prayed. "You have no Mana, no unique or bloodline ability and your physical ability is useless. You need me, so we're going to.." There was an explosion, debris of mud, concrete, and broken swings flew up with the two boys. Eren instinctively grabbed hold of Ash and used his body to shield him from the piles of metal and concrete. Their bodies landed on the muddy ground, rolling through it until they stopped. Ash pushed Eren off him, looking to see if he was ok. But Eren's body was still intact. Ash sighed, realizing that Eren's durability was also as crazy as his strength.
"What the hell was that," Eren said. He had gotten up, and then he fell. "Damn it." He pulled a shard of metal off his leg and threw it off.
"You idiot," Ash said. "You could have been killed."
"You're not the only one who can do the protecting," Eren said. He took off his coat, tore a piece of his shirt, and used it to stop his leg's bleeding. He used the ripped part as a bandage to tie around his wound. There was a screeching noise that prompted them to look up. The Maleficant was hovering in the air, Sister Ruth and the Knight were in two separate caters, where they had landed. Sister Ruth got up, looking mangled and battered. Eren knew she used to be a Hunter. She had retired ages ago and had used her retirement funds to establish the orphanage that had become his home. Eren never knew his parents, having been left as a baby in Mother Ruth's care. She never told him who his parents were or who had left him. She had insisted on telling him the truth when he grew up. On his eighteenth birthday, which was only months away. So she couldn't die. He couldn't let her die. She loaded the rifle, ready to fight again. But she was unaware of the black mass of roaches coming from behind her. Eren's leg began to move, without him thinking. His heart beating fast at the thought of losing her...
"Mother Ruth...Mother…" He ran towards her, not a care in the world for himself...the Maleficant shoved right at him with frightening speed. It happened all at the same time. The Hunter moved quickly, pushing Mother Ruth out of the way, as the attack made contact with his sword arm. There was a large hole in his shoulders, and a large pool of blood began gushing out. At the same time, Eren was moved from the spot he had been in and appeared right next to Ash. The Maleficant's limbs that had been going for Eren crushed one of the damaged swings that had been right next to Ash. Eren was hit with surprise at what had happened but realization dawned on him. Ash had somehow switched the location between Eren and the iron pole of the swing with his magical power.
"Are you crazy," Ash rounded on him. "Are you trying to get killed or what,"
"We need to get to Mother Ruth," Eren said. The Hunter had saved Mother Ruth from taking the brunt of the attack. He was gravely wounded, which meant that they couldn't rely on him. Ash grabbed Eren on the shoulder, realizing the same thing.
"You might not be able to see it but the Maleficant's in the way," He muttered. "I don't know how, but this thing can disperse its energy within a wide area, making it hard to predict its attack," Eren said nothing but listened to what Ash was saying. He couldn't see the creature but by combining his five senses, Jax had some kind of sixth sense that allowed him to instinctively sense danger. He was relying on it now. He could feel some kind of force between them and Mother Ruth. Ash summoned six Mana arrows within his bow, ready to defend Eren.
"This thing is probably A Rank Maleficant or special rank," Ash said. "Which means if I kill it, then Namer University should be a piece of cake," The air within Ash grew warm, his wet hair floating as Eren could feel some kind of power oozing out of him. He couldn't tell what it was, but somehow he could feel a force generating from Ash. Ash ran out to confront the spirit, leaving Eren behind. He quickly fired the arrows far from him, in different areas of the park. Then he summoned two more arrows in his bow. He fired one of them, and the Mana arrow zoomed through the air, and then the Maleficiant tried to move but then a force like a suction pulled the Maleficant towards the arrow, and the space around the tip of the arrow crushed a part of the Maleficant. Eren had no idea what Ash was doing, but he could feel the enviousness and frustration at the fact that Ash could fight and he couldn't. The Maleficiant screeched, and generated more of that murderous feeling, freeing its movement from Ash's spatial influence. Its movements became jarring, scurrying fast enough to jump over Ash. Then it summoned two more legs in addition to the other two from its thorax. It used its hard spikes like blades but Ash was able to parry them away. He was efficient, skilled enough to block each strike from the Maleficant like it was nothing with just one Arrow that he had reformed into a Mana blade. They went back and forth, striking at each other while blocking each of the slash attacks. Their fight took each of them through the park, or more like Ash was using his attack to move them farther away from Eren. Eren used the opportunity to run to Mother Ruth. She was hovering over the Hunter trying to heal his wounds.
"Mother, are you okay," Eren said.
"Eren...I can't heal...can't heal it," She said. The Hunter groaned, trying to get up but Mother pushed him down. "Don't move. You've lost a huge amount of blood already."
"This is nothing," The Hunter said. "That boy might be Heavenly blessed but even an Intermediate rank like him won't last long against a S rank." Eren turned around to see where Ash was handling the Maleficiant. He couldn't see what Ash was fighting, but he could feel the force of his strength. Somehow he was handling it quite well.
"The wound isn't closing," Mother Ruth said. "It must be using its energy to resist my healing,"
"It's part of its Accursed spell," The Hunter said. "It's tenacious."
"Why is it after me," Eren said. "Why me? I thought Maleficiants went after those with Mana," From the research Eren had done on Maleficiants, he learned that they were the result of negative emotions that leaked out of humanity. These negative emotions reached a boiling point and then they manifested as evil spirits that were attracted to people with Mana.
"Maleficiants are also attracted to those with strong negative feelings," The Hunter said. "Do you happen to bear any negative feelings such as sadness, hatred, anger..."
"No, Of course not," Eren said.
"...fear, envy, frustration, inadequacy-"
"Ok, that's enough," Mother Ruth said. Eren stood under the rain, watching Ash fight with the Spirit. He was teleporting within the Mana arrows he had placed around the park far from them, firing off Mana arrows at the Maleficiants from a distance before teleporting away. All his life, Eren had felt a sense of inadequacy, an emptiness within his heart that no matter how far he trained, he practiced the martial art that he had created, he was never able to fill the hole up. He thought that becoming a Hunter with just his strength would be enough, but everything he once believed about his capability... was shattered. Ash appeared right next to them, breathing heavily. He looked torn down, exhaustion weighing heavily on him. For someone who was blessed by the World's energy, he was still of the Intermediate rank, so his spiritual power was very low.
"The damn roach is too strong," Ash said. The Hunter stood up, ignoring Mother Ruth's warnings. He was dragging his heavy sword with his damaged arm, blood busted out, the wound worsening.
"Get him out of here, right now," The Hunter said. No. No. There had to be something he could do, something only..that was when he felt the vibration. The hair on his skin raised, an itching feeling like bugs crawling upon it. He could feel it. He could feel another swarm heading for the Hunter. No one saw it, no one but Eren could feel it. And that was when Eren remembered what Ash had said. The Maleficiant could scramble its energy from being detected, but Eren wasn't sensing its Mana. The only reason why Eren was aware of the swarm was because of his natural senses. They were kicking in, maximizing their capabilities to keep him alive. And without thinking...without a thought for himself, Eren did something. Before the others could stop him, Eren pushed the Hunter away, and ....the force of the swarm hitting his abdomen sent him somersaulting backward. His body hit one of the trees and he was unable to move.
"Eren! Eren! Eren!..." The rain fell on his face, all he could do was hear the voices calling out his name. He couldn't move, he didn't have the strength to check out the extent of his injuries. Darkness came in and out, Eren tried his best to fight it but even then he had no strength to beat it.
"Mother, heal him," Ash's voice came in.
"I'm trying... I'm trying...but...it's not working." She said. "It's just like the Hunter's wound. It won't heal-" So fucking useless. So fucking useless. What was the point of all that training? What was the point of winning against Onyanko? What was the point of pushing his body past its limits? What was the point of him becoming a Hunter if he was unable to do anything here? He needed power... it didn't matter what kind... Power was what he needed... what he wanted...and what he lacked. Eren had learned from an early age that not everyone was born equal. People were born with a determined fate. Life was not fair and it did not care for one's circumstances. He had seen it for himself. There were others, people who fared worse than he did, people who lacked Spiritual powers or the physical ability he was gifted with. They existed, and they were treated poorly, and labeled in the lower class system of the world. Even those who had weak Spiritual power were treated better than those without it. And those who had stronger Spiritual power treated those with weak Spiritual power just the same as those without it. There were more resources and opportunities available for those with spiritual power than there were for those without any Spiritual power. Because Mana was what ran this world. But Eren was different... He had been born with a dead Spiritual gate within his soul. Instead, he had been blessed with something else. Something that gave him an edge whenever he was bullied for having no Spiritual power. His physical abilities. His physical prowess was never as great as it was now. He had always had to push his body to the limit and train haphazardly to push it past it. And yet...a part of him always felt that there was more to his strength that he hadn't reached yet. That the power of his physical body hadn't truly been reached yet... Fuck Mana. Fuck the system. If power was all it took, then Eren would rely on the only power that he had. The Power that he had been born with. He would use his physical prowess as he had planned, and he was going to do it. He was going to become a Hunter and nothing...nothing would stop him. He had sworn an oath, hadn't he? He was going to become a Hunter. So all he needed to do was believe. Believe in himself, and believe in what has gotten him so far.
So get up Eren! Get up! Get up! Get the fuccckkkk up and Hunt that fucking roach!
~
A tower of dark blue light shot off from the ground where Eren Walker lay dying. The light hit the clouds, separating them, and clearing them for an instant. And in the middle of the light, hovering in the air was Eren Walker. Ash, Mother Ruth, and Alastor Kinsway stood staring at the light, and so did the Maleficant. Alastor Kinsway fell to the ground, unable to support his weight anymore. His wound was grave, the blood unable to stop. He had lost a lot of blood alongside his Mana. He had tried using Recovery Magic but for some reason, he couldn't heal the wound he got from the Maleficant. There was something weird about the Maleficiant. Somehow its energy was lingering within the wound, preventing his magic or Mother Ruth's Magic from healing him. He had never encountered something like that before. And normally even an attack of that level should not have been able to wound him. This Maleficiant was no ordinary one. Which is why Alastor had ranked it as a special rank. He felt his leg shaking from exhaustion, signs of him burning through his Mana just to try to stop his bleeding. He only has enough gas for two or three attacks. And he would be done for. And yet, for some reason, Alastor couldn't help but feel a sense of ease as the boy unleashed a familiar gush of energy. He had seen power like this before. A power that didn't belong to Mages or Mana Warrior. A power that only a certain group of people could tap into. Alastor felt the World's energy tremble, the ambient energy stirring up like it was boiling under an intense heat.
"That power...,'' the boy, the one called Ash, called out. "It...it feels strange. I don't sense Mana from it." Of course, he didn't. The power of Mana came forth from the Spiritual energy that one's essence could produce. By channeling external energy from the World itself, and storing it within one's Essence core, one's essence could produce Spirit energy which was converted to the Mana that flowed in Mana circuits. Spirit energy was not something one could use without converting and refining it as Magic or Battle power. But Eren was releasing a vast amount of it from his core like it was nothing. He didn't take from the World but instead, his core produced the energy.… The Light vanished and Eren Walker landed on the ground. There was some kind of heat steaming out of his body. The Maleficiant screeched and scurried right at him, but then Eren vanished. Alastor blinked and the boy was gone. It was the same as his final attack against Onyanko. Did he use Reinforcement Magic to boost his speed or some kind of aura technique to enhance his movement? No, that wasn't it. The boy still didn't show signs of any Magic power or Battle power. His Spiritual gate was still dead...No...not dead as Alastor had initially thought. Sealed. The Spiritual gate was the foundation that allowed an Awakener to connect with the World. But the boy's gate was shut down. He might be an Irregular, but his Irregular power was still awakening. His true power was still dormant...and yet the raw physical prowess that the boy possessed had grown beyond what it used to be. Before it had been bordering on peak human level. But now it had reached the realm of true superhuman. And what was surprising was the fact that the wound that magic couldn't heal was gone. There was a shocking boom, and the force of it snapped Alastor from his thoughts. Eren had appeared above the Maleficiant and he had punched it with enough force to destroy a mountain. The same attack he had used on Onyanko, only this time it was more powerful. The boy landed on the ground. Alastor could tell from the way he moved, that the boy was now fully aware of the Maleficiant's true form and existence. Half of the Maleficiant's thorax was gone, smashed into bits by the boy's punch. That was a powerful martial art technique. If he could infuse either Martial aura or Magic power into it, there was no telling how powerful it would be...
"Impossible," Ash said. "I couldn't even break through its barrier. What kind of power is this,"
"I...I always suspected...but I...I wasn't so sure," Mother Ruth said.
"There's no denying it," Alastor said. "The boy has awakened an Innate ability factor."
"Innate Ability! You don't mean his Physique has awakened..." Ash asked.
"Only with an Awakened physique can an Awakened possess an Innate ability factor," Alastor said. There was another gush of impact, this time directing them back to the fight that was going on between Eren and the malevolent spirit. Eren was using the martial arts that he had created and was moving in and out of the Maleficiant's spiked legs. He was controlling the explosive power his body generated from its movement. His stance was perfect, executing precise blocks against the Maleficiant's striking legs. The durability of his body must have increased because no matter how much he used his arms to block those razor-sharp spikes, there was not a single drop of blood. As the boy was blocking all the strikes, he prepared a front kick, which he executed with the right amount of speed and rotation, making the spirit fly across the park. Half of its face was gone, but then it was healed instantly like its thorax healed quickly. Ok. That was going to be a problem. The boy might have enough strength to deal some damage, but the frightening thing about Maleficiants was their ability to regenerate. Especially this one. This was why Mana was important. Alastor looked at his weapon which he was unable to carry at the very moment. His arm was useless and he couldn't do shit. He was still bleeding, and yet nothing could be done about it. Eren ran to the creature, his speed so overwhelming that even Alastor couldn't keep up with it. Eren stopped and slammed his fist on the ground creating a storm of concrete, mud, and dust around the Maleficiant. What was he trying to do? Blocking the spirit's sight. The Maleficiant didn't only rely on its sight. The thing could feel the tiniest minuscule change in the air through its antennae... I see. Alastor thought. The boy was trying to use that to his advantage. He had slammed his fist to create a shockwave to overload the spirit's sensory information. Without its sight and its antennae ineffective, the maleficiant was blind. So he was using his head. The dust cleared as the roach slammed against the ground, creating a large crater. The boy was in the air, his fist outstretched, purple lighting coiled around his fist, the kinetic energy crackling and distorting the air around Eren. He was preparing to attack again. As the boy fell towards the Maleficiant, his body transformed into a bolt of purple lightning, which surpassed the speed of sound. It was so quick that none of them noticed when the lightning struck the ground with the Maleficiant. The explosion sent the wind against Alastor and the others, the shockwave pushing their feet through the ground. The boy jumped out of the smoke and ran towards them, a little bit of worry written plainly on his face.
"Eren, are you ok," Mother Ruth asked. She grabbed him checking for any signs of a wound.
"I'm fine. I feel like I'm overflowing with power," He said. And it was the truth. Eren had no idea what the hell had happened. He had been full of rage and determination, swearing to himself to fight. To forget the pain and self-pity that he had put on himself. If he was going to die here and now, he might as well go all out. And that was when something clicked in his brain. He had felt some kind of sensation go through his body, and then it flowed to his head. It was like all the cells in his brain nerve had caught on fire, and then the purple light blasted out of him. The wound on his abdomen was gone, the damage on his leg from the metal shard had healed instantly. It was like every single damage he had taken was erased through the purple light. And all that was left was a rush of pure power coursing through his body. And he knew that his attacks could deal enough damage. But he hadn't counted on the Maleficiant's ability to regenerate.
"I keep punching it, but it just heals from my attack," Eren said.
"That's because you need Mana to purify the Maleficiant," Alastor said to Jax. "Maleficiants can only be stopped by using Mana to destroy their core. Once the core is gone, they're done for."
"Well, I don't have Mana," Eren said grumpily. Although he was grateful for this mysterious power that was amping him up, Mana was something Jax had always craved for.
"Yes, and it seems your innate ability is not enough to truly destroy the core," Alastor said. "At least not yet."
"Innate ability," Eren said. "Mister, do you know what this is," Jamal raised his fist where he could generate the purple light.
"Yes. It seems your innate ability has to do with some kind of enhancement" Alastor said. "It must originate from the physique you awakened." Physique. This had to do with one's physical constitution which determined one's genes, physical appearance, and racial heritage. Like Hyperboreans who could Awaken their special physique that granted them their innate superhuman strength.
"Tell me something, Eren," Alastor said.
"What," He replied.
"Can you see the Maleficiant," He asked. The boy turned back to where the Maleficiant had crashed into the ground, its wound healing from the strike he had dealt to it.
"Yeah," he said. He looked like he was thinking, his brows focused in concentration. "I didn't question it...but for some reason, after the purple light vanished, it was like I could see its form. And then the more I fought it, the more visible its shape became. And I got to tell you, that's one disgusting Maleficiant." Alastor Kinsway burst out laughing. He fell on the ground with his butt, laughing at the circumstances that he found himself in. Now he knew why all this was happening. Why he had tracked that strange Mana to this place...to this boy all along? His hunch had been right. This boy... Alastor had spent the last week since he had discovered Eren Walker, investigating him...and there had been things about him that hadn't made sense. The boy had been born during the Hailey Incident on Namer Island. According to his birth records, he had been born in Haumea. But Alastor had figured out that the records were fake. Someone had made a false document for the boy. Alastor had questioned it. Why would someone go that far for a manaless orphan boy? And what did it have to do with the Star King? He figured it had to do with some kind of irregularity. And now the answer was right in his face. He had been right. The boy was an Irregular. There was no doubt about it. But if he was an Irregular, why did he not have Magic or Martial power? The record showed that he had a spiritual gate and yet he was not blessed with Mana. Instead, the boy displayed above-average physical ability for a human. Only Irregulars could possess such a trait. From what Alastor knew about Irregulars, their physical ability normally awakened in two stages. In the first stage, their body undergoes a mutation in which they reach the peak of human strength. Eren's raw physical capability was an example of it. And then in the second stage, the power which imbued their body with the mutation extended to their brain itself, allowing them to further awaken their Irregular physical ability. Alastor knew this because he knew someone who had experienced it before. And just like the person he knew, there was more to Eren's power than what he was manifesting. But there wasn't enough time to wait for the boy to truly awaken. Alastor knew then what he had to do.
"Boy, you want to become a Hunter, right," Alastor said
"Yeah, How do you know Mister...what's your name again," Eren said.
"It's Alastor. Alastor Kinsway," He replied. "You do know that without Mana, one can't become a Hunter, right,"
"And yet I'm still going to be a Hunter," Eren replied.
"Is that so," Alastor said, wincing. His laughter had made his wound even worse. He had stopped bothering to stop the bleeding. He was done for. The least he could do... "Tell me...do you want to save your family,"
"Yes," Eren said. The boy said it with such a strong conviction, the darkness that Alastor had seen in the boy's eyes when he realized his shortcomings was gone. Nothing but determination. While the boy had answered, Alastor had been scribbling sigils in the form of a pentagram with his blood.
"What are you doing," Ash said. "Is that Blood ritual magic,"
"I'm not much of a Caster, but this should be good," Alastor said mostly to himself. He forced himself to stand upright, to face the kid, and carried his blade.
"What are you doing," Eren repeated the same words as Ash
"I'm helping you to achieve your dream," Alastor said. He had turned pale, his breathing becoming heavier. He was quickly losing his strength and death was close any second. But before he died, he had to do what he was about to do. The boy's latent Magic and Martial power were still not manifesting yet...for some reason. Was his spiritual gate not fully opened yet? And why did it take this long for it to finally begin to open up? Alastor wished he would be around to get the answers to the question. But at least the boy should be able to figure it out himself.
"You know I never thought I would come across an Irregular here of all places," Alastor said. "But I guess the world is a strange place, isn't it," And before he lost what strength he had left, Alastor slammed his greatsword right into the abdomen of Eren Walker.
~
Eren had no idea what the Hunter was doing, using his blood to form some kind of line around both of them. Even with the rain that was pouring, the blood didn't wash away. Eren could feel the heat within the blood, a scorching heat was forming within it, and Eren recognized that heat as power itself.
".....come across an Irregular here of all places. But I guess the world is a strange place, indeed,"
"What do you mean Irregu-" But Eren was caught off guard as the Knight pierced the great sword through his upper body. At least he tried to. Eren was expecting to die, some kind of intense pain, but there was nothing. Instead, a Black book had appeared and from within its pages, a surge of black energy poured out like a mist. The black vortex first pulled the energy from the Sword into itself.
"What are you doing," Eren said. He had tried to move, to punch the Hunter but he couldn't. His body was paralyzed, unable to move.
"I'm kick-starting your spiritual gate," Alastor said. "At least I was trying to..."
"What.." But Eren was interrupted by another blast of light...this time a bluish burst of energy that enveloped him. Eren could feel something within him awaken. Something that had been sleeping for a long time, filling in where the emptiness used to be. A sphere that was emitting light from within his solar plexus. And then the light began to flow backward, Eren absorbing the energy back into the core of his body. And then the Black vortex swallowed the Greatsword into the black book.
"Shit! Did not expect that" Alastor said, then he fell on the ground, unconscious. Eren was left standing in the middle of the pentagram, and within his right arm was an obsidian ring. There were tiny rune marks engraved on the ring, and sparks of purple electricity flowed out of it. The black book was still floating up beside him, and on the front cover of the book, was a bone-shaped mouth of a Beast, open with large fangs that could devour anything.
[Your Spiritual gate has opened! You have Awakened the Tome of the Devourer alongside your Essence core. Mana Circuits formation has begun.]
Eren was shocked to see the words that flowed within the black grimoire that had swallowed up Alastor's Magic. The book was opened, and there were images, and words written in some kind of runes that Eren could read. Eren couldn't believe his luck that he had acquired a grimoire of his own. He was stunned to learn that the book that had saved him before was more than it seemed. A Grimoire. This was an object of great power, said to imbue Magical skills and ability on the Mage who could master the spells within them. It was believed that a Mage who acquired a Grimoire would see tremendous growth in their Magic cultivation compared to Mages who had no Grimoire. Most of the Great families were known to possess so many powerful grimoires. The first page that Eren looked at had the image of what looked to be a chakram blade. It was a circular weapon with sharpened edges and a diameter of 14 cm. There were a couple of runes written below the image as some description:
[This is the Ring of Extermination, a Divine blade known to cut through the core of a star. Due to possessing only one-half of the Divine blade, the ranking of the Divine blade has degraded to the Legendary grade blade. Wielding this blade grants them the power of Fire and Light Elements.]
[Grade: Legendary]
[Blade spell: Fang Slash: A spell that increases the cutting and cleaving attack through fire and light elements through the production of static discharge.]
Hmm. Eren couldn't believe what he was seeing. Not only did he have a grimoire, but the grimoire also came with an Enchanted blade of its own. He looked at the Obsidan ring on his right finger and knew that the ring was the weapon in its sealed state. Eren had just awakened his core and formed his Mana circuit although there wasn't much of it. Though he had a core, right now, his core was rankless. But that didn't matter to Eren as he focused his concentration on the ring. He felt the connection between himself and the ring as a blast of blue light and flames burst forth. The light and flames began to gradually condense into a ring of blue blades made up of blue light. Eren grabbed the Chakram and felt the surge of power flow through his veins. He turned to look at the Maleficiant and sure enough, it was healed up. Eren could finally feel the twisted energy coming off from the spirit. Though he was able to see the Maleficiant's shape after the purple light, he still couldn't sense the power coming from it. But now, he could feel it. And it was a crushing feeling that should have made Eren scared but he wasn't. For some reason, he felt like he could do anything.
Eren flipped the Ring blade casually, and caught it, doing it like it was no big deal. He was feeling great. He had no idea what Alastor Kinsway had done, but from what Eren could tell, the Hunter might have transferred his remaining magical power to him. Maybe as a last resort. Whatever the case, Eren was not about to let his chance go to waste. He could feel a strange sensation, different from the power he had gotten from the purple light, flowing through his body. It felt heavy, dense, and thick, different from how the purple light felt light, soft, and warm. Eren knew right there and then what he had to do. He had to destroy the core so that this thing couldn't heal anymore.
Then what should I do? Eren felt he should be worried, he knew that the best way to defeat the Maleficant was through a technique. He only had one attack spell, and he knew he had to make it count. Eren wielded the Ring blade in a stance, facing the spirit, which was clicking away its antennae. It was ready to lunge at Eren again. But Eren was ready. He had pinpointed where the core was, the point at which its cursed power was its thickest.
Let's go. Eren felt the Ring blade release a burst of power, channeling it all to its wielder, and Eren with his strong foot, augmented by his innate ability, jumped right at the spirit. He swung the blade in a vertical line with all his might and the Ring blade shot off with a blast of blue flames. It cut through the air with an intense heat that cleanly cleaved the Maleficant into two parts, connecting with the core, and slicing right through it.
