Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Alaric continued to gaze at the statues, and the mesmerizing space above. He clenched his fist, he had to admit, he was a bit scared. He knew, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, he couldn't mess this up. So he forced himself to take a step, ready to explore the vast space.

But, as he took his first step, a loud robotic voice spoke out to him, "Welcome, Alaric Vandale, to the subspace. Please, walk to one of the statue you would like to bind to. And please, take as much time as you like." The voice echo across the space. Alaric smirked, 'So I can take as long as I need...Good...'

He began walking, his eyes scanning over the tall statues. Some of the statues had different designs, making them each stand out. There were small stones near the statues, that displayed names, but nothing really else. It doesn't reveal anything about their abilities or what you'd get if you picked the statue. Alaric continued glossing over the various statues, his mind racing his palms sweaty. He was sure to not mess this up, he just had the feeling.

As he continued closing over the statues and their stones, and something caught his attention. As he stopped, his eyes widened, his mouth agape at the information he just learned,

"Apollo," he read aloud, as he looked up, The statue was dressed in roman and greek clothing, a bow attached to his hip. He stepped back and this honestly was huge news for him, "This is, Apollo, the god of archery..." he whispered, the sweat on his temples building up.

Back in his old life, there was mythological beings and gods subjects of fascination, drawing countless into endless and discussions. It was a huge thing that even Alaric was interested in back then, but seeing that there was a mythical god in this subspace? This was huge! He turned, and walked to the statue right next to this Apollo one. The stone read, "Ares," he gasped, the greek god of war. Alaric looked forward, along down the long row of statues. "There has to be more!" He exclaimed, as he sprinted forward running the rows.

As he raced among the statues, he saw many names that he recognized, from Poseidon, God of the sea, to Hades the God of death. There were many, do these mythical gods not exist in this world? If they did, surely these would've been picked, not by chance but by choice. Though, after learning of this discovery, he wanted to find one statue, and it had to be there.

As he ran, his eyes landed on the statue he was looking for. It was a large man, with long hair that flowed down his back and a long beard. His presence carried over, even though it was just a statue. It was like the statue was staring Alaric down.

"Zeus," he whispered, The God of lightning. People from his previous world always said, that Zeus was the strongest mythical god. And if that's true, why wouldn't Alaric pick this one? It was an easy choice honestly, and he almost didn't think twice. He reached for the statue, ready to bind with it, and his hand touched it. But, then there was a feeling that ran though his body, his eyes turning white.

"You've chosen Zeus, is this the statue you would like to bind with?" The voice called out, but Alaric froze. His didn't say anything. There was a grip on his arm, that wanted to pull him towards something different, something drew him in. His head turned towards a nearby statue, and his eyes scanned up the statue.

It was a man, no, it was more like a human-like creature. His hair was wild and connected to his beard. He had a large monkey tail. He had a staff over his shoulder, crouched in a superhero landing position, looking like he was ready to spring into action at any moment.

Alaric's eyes traced down towards the stone in front, "Sun Wukong...?" He whispered, mainly to himself, and he recognized this statue. Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, another popular figure from his past life. He was known to be strong, super strong in fact, his power almost boundless. But, was he really stronger than Zeus? Alaric frowned, and raised his eye.

"No." He said, finally answering the voice.

His eyes lingered an the statue, and found his hand suddenly drifted towards the statue, ready to bind with it. 'I could be making a grave mistake, but...This statue, it's like...It's calling out to me.' He thought, as he hand finally landed on the cold surface.

"You've chosen Sun Wukong, is this the statue you would like to bind with?" The voice called out again, and Alaric didn't hesitate this time, "Yes."

"Monkey King System Online!" The voice announced.

A translucent screen materialized in front of Alaric's eyes, and it displays his information. "A status window?"

But, everyone gets one skill that relates to their system. And it really does work like a video game. Alaric's eyes floated aimlessly throughout the information, but his weapon is what caught his eye the most.

Ruyi Jingu Bang, Sun Wukong's iconic staff. Alaric called out it's name, and a bright light emitted from the window, as a large staff landed in his hands. The staff's tips and ends were colored yellow while the middle was colored a scarlet red. A brief description appeared on his status window.

Ruyi Jingu Bang:

Alaric blinked as he read the information. This is an SSS tier weapon? He smiled, right off the bat he had a SSS tier weapon, maybe picking Sun Wukong wasn't a bad choice after all. But he looked at the weapon as he aimed it up. 'I wonder how the flight works.' He thought as he focused and the staff began to float, as Alaric blinked, as he smiled.

"I see." He muttered as he began to move it around like it was telekinesis. As it landed back in his hand, he wondered if there was anything else he wanted to try out while he was here. He shrugs and figured he was done.

He looked up, wondering how he was meant to leave. Maybe it was the same way he come in. So, he closed his eyes and waited. After a deep breath, he reopened his eyes and the first thing he saw was his mother and father. He blinked and gave a relieved smile, "I-I did it...!" He said, as his mother smiled and rubbed his hair affectionally, "I'm so proud of you baby."

His father folded his arms, his expression filled with curiosity, "So, what did you pick son?"
