Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Thunderous Applause

"I'm the king of the world!"

When "Jack" stood on the bow and shouted to the vast sea, everyone at the premiere felt that this sentence was justified. They blessed the love between "Jack" and "Rose" without any disdain for his humble origins.

In addition to some celebrity guests, there were also many well-known film critics at the premiere, including Kenneth Turan, a film critic from the Los Angeles Times.

When he heard this line, he obviously felt differently from the ordinary audience. His gaze was deeply locked on a figure in the front row - Dunn Walker.

Kenneth Turan pondered deeply. Like "Jack", Dunn was originally an unknown person who, by chance, entered the upper class.

Perhaps this arrogant statement of "Jack" in the movie was a reflection of Dunn's inner thoughts in the real world?

The disparity in social class was an insurmountable gap in the love between "Jack" and "Rose". Dunn's age also seemed to be a huge obstacle to him directing a blockbuster film.

The intersection of fate suddenly made Kenneth Turan feel that Dunn Walker was very likely the most suitable director for "Titanic". Only he could guide the leading actors and actresses to vividly express the tragic love that was hindered by worldly concerns and burdened by reputation.

"Retro style, excellent rhythm, convincing acting, it's a good movie!"

Not long after the opening, Kenneth Turan had already given this movie a positive review in his heart.

The following plot was tense and conflicting. The intertwined storylines deeply attracted the attention of everyone present, especially the scene where the leading actors and actresses returned to the lower cabin, dancing unrestrainedly and frolicking freely, which made many people smile knowingly. And the scene where "Jack" sketched "Rose" made people almost forget to breathe.

Kate Winslet's beauty not only made the men present breathless but also made the women stare wide-eyed.

Beautiful pictures paired with beautiful love, perhaps... this was the real love movie?

"Even though I've seen it many times, I have to say, Kate, you're so beautiful!" Dunn leaned over and whispered in her ear.

This was the first time Kate had a breakthrough performance on the big screen, so she couldn't help but feel shy. She pursed her lips and gave him a sideways glance. "Watch the movie!"

Dunn sighed. "Do you know how many pigments I adjusted to make your body look artistic?"

Kate was helpless. "Okay, Dunn, thank you for making me look so beautiful."

Dunn chuckled. "Come to my place tonight?"

Kate glared at him angrily. "This is your real purpose, isn't it?"

Dunn shrugged. "You know, I'm still single."

Kate rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Then go find a girlfriend. What are you looking for me for?"

Dunn curled his lips. "Let's watch the movie."

The love between "Jack" and "Rose", as everyone expected, gradually reached its peak. The sparks in their passionate love, a smile, a look, were all vividly expressed.

It had to be said that in the second half of the movie, Leonardo and Kate truly showed their full potential.

However, the tragedy began next.

Iceberg, sinking ship, parting of life and death...

The screening hall suddenly fell silent.

Everyone was immersed in it, trembling with grief.

Was all beautiful love destined to end in tragedy? Romeo and Juliet were like this, and Jack and Rose couldn't escape fate either?

Tears flowed uncontrollably.

Of course, such a story couldn't fool professionals and film critics. Their astonishment was more focused on the film's unparalleled special effects technology.

In the 1990s, when special effects were not yet advanced, the scene of the giant ship splitting in the Atlantic Ocean shocked every professional!

"How did they do that?"

"My God, I finally understand why this movie cost so much!"

"This movie is very likely..."

...

What was the last movie that brought such a visual feast to the whole of America?

It was "Star Wars" in 1977!

Now, "Titanic" is very likely to follow the same path, leading the trend in the United States and shocking the whole world!

The special effects of the movie are realistic, shocking, and dazzling!

No matter how clichéd the story itself is, the grand spectacle in the last twenty minutes alone is enough to make this movie popular all over the world.

Many film critics and professionals, thinking of the bold words that the film's director Dunn Walker had uttered, couldn't help but tremble all over.

Could it be that...

Ordinary viewers were naturally on a different level from professionals. Listening to the dying words of "Jack" and "Rose", they could no longer hold back their tears.

Dunn even noticed that Kate beside him was also secretly wiping her eyes.

Dunn chuckled.

Kate snorted. "I almost died to shoot this scene, Dunn, I almost died! Can't I even cry a little?"

Dunn laughed. "Of course you can, but don't mess up your makeup. We still have to take a curtain call later."

"I know!"

This was the first time Kate had watched the finished film, and her attention was quickly drawn back to the movie.

The lifeboat arrived, "Rose" was rescued, and the Heart of the Ocean became the last illusion of the whole movie.

"A Dunn Walker Film!"

This shot stunned almost all the film critics and professionals present.

What was going on?

Wasn't "Titanic" Cameron's work? Wasn't Dunn Walker just a replacement, a hired hand? Then what role did Cameron play?

The next shot was Cameron's turn.

"Producer: James Cameron."

The film was edited by Cameron, and Dunn understood his intention with this shot design.

Now the whole of Hollywood agreed that "Titanic" was Cameron's work, and Dunn Walker was just a tool for Cameron to realize his ideas. An eighteen-year-old kid, no matter how talented, couldn't direct a commercial blockbuster independently.

But Cameron understood that Dunn was definitely not as incompetent as the outside world claimed. The reason why this movie was able to be presented smoothly was due to his efforts in the early preparation, and the later shooting was completely led by Dunn.

Cameron was an upright person. He wanted to achieve success and great fame, but he didn't like to improve his status by taking credit from others.

Putting Dunn's name first and boldly labeling it as "A Dunn Walker Film" was Cameron's powerful counterattack to make up for the injustice Dunn had suffered from the rumors.

...

As Celine Dion's deep and melodious singing gradually faded away, the lights in the theater came back on.

And the moment the lights came on, thunderous applause erupted.

As if they had all agreed beforehand, everyone stood up together, their eyes fixed on the "Titanic" crew in the front row, their glistening eyes filled with respect and admiration.

The applause was like a tide, and the Los Angeles Chinese Theater was like a boiling pot.

Undoubtedly, this was a perfect commercial blockbuster!

Bill Mechanic felt the warm atmosphere brought by the intense applause, and his turbid eyes were mixed with excitement. He looked at the "Titanic" crew who were walking to the front of the stage, ready to take a curtain call. His eyes wandered from Cameron to Dunn Walker.

For the first time, he felt that this kid... was not simple.

"Maybe... he really can create a miracle?"

Bill Mechanic's exhilarated mood, like the endless applause, was thunderous, proud, and self-satisfied.
