Xia Lu checked the balance on all her bank cards and was disappointed. She did have some savings from her work over the time but had previously left some at the hospital for Luo Fan, and now that no salary was coming in, she only had a little left. It was like a drop in the bucket compared to the debt they owed.
"I'll figure out something about the money, but let's not sell the house just yet," Xia Lu said. "Our old house is already gone. If we sell this one too, where would you live afterward?"
"I'll be fine. I can squeeze in with your uncle for a while. This is just a temporary hardship; things will definitely get better."
Xia Lu didn't think so. A man in his forties, gambling and borrowing from loan sharks, would be a cause for concern even in a wealthy family, let alone in their ordinary household which had neither prominent connections nor vast wealth.
