"You look down on them," Xia Lu said softly.
Zhou Mingchen glanced at her sideways. "What did you say?"
Xia Lu looked up at him, "Those workers in the meeting room just now, you looked down on them."
"I did not look down on anyone."
Xia Lu stopped talking; maybe it was unintentional, but she had seen everything clearly while sitting beside him. The expression in the corners of his eyes and brows reeked of deep contempt, and the workers must have noticed it too. This was a negotiation with a stark disparity in status from the start, doomed to fail.
"Why are you not speaking?" Zhou Mingchen asked in the car.
Xia Lu pouted, finding it difficult to talk or stay silent; dealing with him was becoming increasingly challenging.
Seeing her silence, Zhou Mingchen continued, "I do not look down on them. Their demands were simply unreasonable. I am obligated to be responsible for my company, and I can't just agree to any condition without thinking."
