Chapter 54 - 54: Turtle vs Crane.

"The next fighters to face each other are Krillin and Chaoz. Please come to the arena. " This time, Muten Roshi announced the names that appeared on the screen.

Soon, Krillin arrived at the arena, looking somewhat strangely at Chaoz, who was constantly floating, to the amazement of the watching crowd. Seeing the crowd's exaggerated reactions to the sight of him floating, Chaoz cracked a small smile.

"Wow, it looks like the fighter named Chaoz can stay afloat all the time. Tell us, Master Roshi, how is he able to do that?" the host asked Roshi, hoping to bring a bit of folk truth to the unknowing.

"Well...looking at the kanji on the boy's fighting uniform, I see that he is from the Crane School, founded by my former rival Tsuru. As far as I know, he created a special flying technique.

You know, flying is an easy skill to achieve if you know how to control ki, but special flying techniques are few and far between, and I see that this Chaoz seems to have integrated it quite well into his instincts.

Although I can see his use of psychic power, which reduces the energy consumption of this technique. Although I have some animosity towards Tsuru...., his students are special. But I trust young Krillin," Muten Roshi said with a small smile on his face.

He knew that his 'enemy' Tsuru could hear him, because he knew that he was in the special area for those who were important to the fighters, so he said those words to provoke him.

Even though he trusted Krillin very much. The boy might have been a little afraid or had a little low self-esteem, but he was a very special person and had accepted his teachings for a long time.

"Well, let's hope that these two young fighters will give us a great fight. Fight!" The starting gong sounded loudly.

Krillin already knew Chaoz's affiliation, the Crane School, the 'rival' of his school. As a student of Muten Roshi, he belonged to the Turtle School, so he took this fight very seriously.

Chaoz, on the other hand, looked at Krillin with a certain amount of mischief; he had received his master's advice days before the tournament began that if he met a member of the Turtle School, he should show no mercy.

The two small fighters stared at each other, both of their bodies tense and their energies twisting in their bodies, ready to act at the slightest command.

Both could sense the wariness and animosity of the other, especially Chaoz towards Krillin, who was a bit afraid of the possible techniques of his rival, a member of a school known for its ruthlessness.

'Come on, Krillin, your teammates are watching and supporting you,' Krillin said to himself, encouraging himself.

Then he decided to take the initiative. The aura of energy covered his body before he glided towards Chaoz, his feet barely touching the ground. Surprise appeared in Chaoz's eyes. What did he see?

Someone was using his school's special flying technique! As a Jiang Shi-like being, he hated walking, so he had studied the flying technique a lot to simply float freely in the air.

Because of this, he was able to detect those small differences that made the Crane School's flying technique special, so he felt quite angry at this moment, because it was obvious that the guy in front of him had somehow stolen his school's technique.

But he didn't notice the small smile on Krillin's lips as he noticed Chaoz's sudden stiffening at the sight of him; he knew that the impression of his actions had led to what he wanted, to get the upper hand in this fight.

With so many martial arts geniuses surrounding him, including himself, how could they not modify this special technique? They had made special variations for them, but as he once heard from Bulma, 'There are no bad techniques, just a bad time to use them.'

As far as Krillin was concerned, this was the special time to use this technique, so he turned his body to kick Chaoz hard, sending him flying. The beginning of the fight favored him; Krillin did not get careless and chased after Chaoz.

But Chaoz recovered quickly and stretched out his hands, pointing at Krillin, using his psychic powers. Krillin felt a strange sensation in his stomach, as if he had eaten many things that had gone bad and reacted strongly in his gut.

So he fell to the ground, clutching his stomach as his body curled up. Beads of sweat covered his shaved head, and he couldn't understand why he was in so much pain right now.

It was only when he noticed Chaoz approaching and saw the blue glow on his hands that indicated the use of psionic power that he understood. This was the influence of a psychic technique!

"Thief! How did you get our school's special flying technique?" asked Chaoz, and although he had two eternal red circles on his pale face, the crimson color seemed to spread throughout his body due to the anger he felt.

"I am not a thief!" shouted Krillin, using his willpower and energy to overcome the psychic influence, which was noticed by Chaoz, who felt his rival's resistance.

"The technique you used was the technique of my school! How did you steal it?" Chaoz asked again, not believing his own words, but soon he felt his technique gradually being broken.

Then, resorting to what he considered a drastic method, Chaoz lifted Krillin with one of his fingers, and soon a ball of yellow energy appeared at the tip of it.

With his perception of energy, Krillin could tell that this simple ball of ki was no simple thing; the threat it posed was something he had never felt before, as if this technique was made solely to kill his rival.

"Tell me or you'll see," Chaoz threatened, not caring much about the rules of this tournament right now, if he had to kill someone for his crime against the school, he would do it.

After all, the Crane School had members who were killers, and even the best of them was the younger brother of Tsuru, the founder of the school. The more sensitive fighters who watched the confrontation could even sense Chaoz's murderous intent, but no one did anything to intervene.

However, Bulma gave Ten Shinhan a serious look from afar, causing the young Triclop to look back at her. Not only was the look intense, but the young girl's purple aura burned in her body and made the other fighters feel her.

Although Ten Shinhan was strong and confident in himself, he felt the weight of Bulma's power, so he looked to the arena where Krillin had gradually joined in, freeing himself from the influence of Chaoz's technique.

"I DIDN'T STEAL ANYTHING, PALE BOY!" Krillin shouted, feeling quite angry at this point.

Out of anger, Krillin's ki surged, and he performed a kiai that knocked Chaoz back. He might be timid, shy, sometimes arrogant, and often laughed at for his 'ugliness', but even he, a Buddhist boy, had breaking points.

Furious, he ignored his usual lack of self-confidence that always tended to sabotage him, and for the first time in a long time, he wanted to fight, not just to prove his strength, but to keep his reputation and that of his school intact.

Krillin, who thought this was just a normal tournament, acted under the threat of death and anger at the disrespect. His form seemed to fade away.

By the time Chaoz tried to track his energy signature, it was too late; Krillin punched Chaoz hard in the face, his fist covered in yellow Ki, increasing the power of his attack.

Then, as if taunting Chaoz, he flew again, but this time it was obvious that he was using a different technique, causing Chaoz, who touched his bruised cheek, to look at him strangely.

"I don't need to steal your inefficient technique, the Turtle School has its methods." Krillin did not smile, nor did he have an excited or haughty tone in his voice; he simply looked at Chaoz, who insisted on pointing at him with the ball of energy on his outstretched finger.

"Why did you fly using our school's technique?" Chaoz changed the question this time, causing Krillin to burst out laughing.

"I don't deny that we got to know it for some reason, but I can swear on the honor of the Turtle School that we didn't get it illegally, and we don't even use it every day; we have our own better flying techniques." Krillin wasn't lying, his flying technique might be less cool than the one Bulma wanted to create to even fly in space.

But he is a martial arts genius! Under the guidance of Muten Roshi and Gohan, he was able to make adjustments to the basic flying technique that any ki user could learn, thus achieving a flying technique of his own.

Furthermore, when he saw that the energy ball on Chaoz's finger was about to be released, he decided to end this fight with his fighting technique. Yellow energy covered his hands, and the reaction caused by his energy seemed to slightly raise the temperature of the air, distorting it.

"Dodonpa!

"Tsuibikidan!

They both shouted their energy attacks, Chaoz's energy ball on his finger collapsing into a thin yellow beam, while Krillin fired two red ki attacks that seemed to be quite hot.

The energy attacks collided head-on, but Krillin controlled his attack, parting one of the beams and hitting Chaoz squarely, knocking him to the ground. Soon, Krillin approached his opponent, who tried to struggle to his feet.

"Why did you try to kill me? Even against the rules," Krillin asked quietly, causing Chaoz to stare at Krillin, this time with a bit of respect in his eyes.

"I... I just wanted to protect the honor of the Crane School," Chaoz replied quietly, causing Krillin to nod before offering his hand to Chaoz.

"I don't know why you find it so easy to want to kill me, but you're not a bad person, I can feel that," Krillin said, smiling at Chaoz, who didn't know how to react at that point.

"Why don't you take me out of the arena?" asked Chaoz, ignoring Krillin's hand and smile, but his somewhat sad tone indicated that he was moved.

"Because you've already lost the ability to fight, why would I be so cruel as to keep kicking you?" Krillin's words shocked Chaoz, who could only slightly avert his gaze to Ten Shinhan, thinking that he might be looking at him reproachfully.

But no, he could see the good wishes in his friend's eyes, as if he didn't care about his failure or defeat. Although he did not stand out very well in this confrontation, he was able to keep Krillin in check only because he did not attack him at the moment when he had the advantage.

So he took Krillin's hand, who quickly helped him up with ease. At another time, Chaoz would surely have attacked sneakily, but he felt that the bald boy next to him did not deserve such treatment, for he, too, could sense the goodness in the young man; he was not an evil or negative person.

"I give up," Chaoz said, and knowing that this might upset his master, he just let it go.

After a long time of training with Ten Shinhan, he understood that some of Tsuru's inferior means were not that effective in battle, and although his nature was somewhat cold, he didn't like the way his master dealt with things.

Of course, he usually didn't say such things and kept quiet, especially since his best friend, Ten Shinhan, was someone who was a fan of Tao Pai Pai, but lately, even Ten Shinhan had some doubts, so he simply decided to cut the knot himself.

"Fighter Chaoz has surrendered! Fighter Krillin wins!" the announcer shouted, declaring that this short showdown between famous schools was over.
