Chapter 42 - Let Us Allow The Battle To Truly Start Now

A few minutes after Ling sent Jiang Feng into the forest.

Ling stood up from her seat, the mug filled with warm chocolate milk placed back down onto the table brought from Earth.

After some simple stretching, the relaxed look on her face faded away, replaced by the seriousness she had when asked about the 'Cult Of Karmic Relations' by Jiang Feng.

She looked to the starry sky above her, serenity filling her view as the stars seemed to shine brighter than they ever were. However, the peaceful serenity broke apart as words filled with loath and despise came out from her.

"The Heavens…they might have noticed you already, Feng. Especially 'him', his being is the only one I'm concerned of for your return. He may have already sent an order down to look for you, but I can't allow that to happen. For that…"

Muttering such words, Ling's hand began blurring as they formed strange signs, creating intricate formation symbols that spanned across the whole world in just a few seconds.

The symbols linked with each other as a formation the size of a Lower Cultivation World was created.

Staring at the formation symbols that were rotating around the planet, Ling waved her hand at them as they all turned invisible, disappearing from her sight. The look of worry still remained on her face though, as she turned towards the direction of the fortress, her gaze set at where the auction house was.

'I wonder if she had noticed my actions. I did make a mistake on purpose for her.'Ling thought inwardly.

Back at where Jiang Feng was.

Knocking off the claws of the Werewolf, Jiang Feng forced it to jump back as it pulled the distance between them.

Such actions proved to be worthless as the surrounding wolves moved closer, trying to protect who they deemed as brethren, thinking it was injured by the single human cultivator before them.

Jiang Feng was too bothered to care about the stares of the wolves, as he tried contacting Ling through their soul link. However, his attempt failed as their distance was too big for Jiang Feng to send a message over.

This brought him to retrieve Ling's communication slip from his space pouch, his hand holding tightly to it as he imbued the slip with spiritual energy the way Ling taught him.

The slip immediately reacted towards Jiang Feng's spiritual energy as it trembled lightly, like a vibrating phone when there's a call. Yet, its only reaction was that as the failed attempt to communicate with LIng made him despair, the slip turning back to static.

'Don't tell me she fell asleep!' Jiang Feng thought of the possibility as his anxiety rose, his spiritual energy continuing to be imbued into the communication slip that could save his life from the current situation.

The slip trembled again before dying down, repeating so as Jiang Feng's desperate attempts increased.

In the end, spiritual energy stopped flowing into the slip as the hand holding it went limb and dropped to the side.

The nervousness on Jiang Feng's face disappeared, spreading all over his mind as despair filled it.

A light chuckle escaped his lips, his head lifted up as he stared at the Werewolf and the pack of wolves behind it. Newfound determination burned within him as the flames on his sword intensified, his eyes shining with a deadly glint as he took a step forward.

"Since I'm left on my own, then there's only one way to walk out of this predicament." Jiang Feng said to himself, raising the sword in his hands as he stood before the towering figure of the Werewolf.

"That is to fight."

The next second, Jiang Feng's figure disappeared from the eyes of all of the wolves present, reappearing above the Werewolf as it hastily blocked the falling strike, its pupil trembling as fear seemed to be present within.

It all meant nothing to Jiang Feng, though.

Seeing that his attack failed, Jiang Feng quickly disappeared again and attacked the Werewolf from below.

The Werewolf blocked the sword again, but just barely. It let out a growl as the wolves around it moved, pouncing on the figure of Jiang Feng as they aimed to stop him from fading out of their view again.

Ignoring them, Jiang Feng's figure flashed past them and stood at one of the branches of a nearby tree. He immediately jumped off from there and flipped towards the ground, creating a scene of a descending fire ring.

The fire ring went straight for the leader of all the wolves, who already jumped off from the ground and readied to face the fiery flames. Its underlings tried to follow it, but failed to due to the disparity in their strengths.

Clang!!!

The fire ring immediately disappeared, replaced by the heavy force applied to the Werewolf's claws with Jiang Feng's flaming sword.

Cracks immediately appeared, threatening to break the knife-like claws as a pained expression appeared on the monster's face. It immediately gritted its teeth as its figure retreated to the back as soon as it landed back on the ground, commanding the wolves to buy time for respite.

The wolves obeyed its orders as they covered Jiang Feng in all directions, leaving no possible space for Jiang Feng to slip past.

However, he didn't need to.

An intense shockwave of spiritual energy was released as it hit the barrier formed by the bodies of the wolves, knocking all of them away as flames burned out of nowhere.

The furs on the wolves seemed to be a little resistant towards the flames created by Flame Creation, but it caught on in the end as mayhem started to spread.

More and more wolves from the back pounced on Jiang Feng as their frontlines fell before the excruciating flames on their bodies, only to be forced to join their predecessors.

The Werewolf stood at the back watching all of this happen, yet showed not even a single emotion of care as it focused on the recovery of its claws. Jiang Feng placed his attention on it as his Spiritual Sense caught something interesting.

Just a little below where the Werewolf's stomach was, spiritual energy flowed out as it entered the arms and into the claws, repairing and extending them as the claws were filled out, turning as good as new.

Such mysterious use of spiritual energy intrigued Jiang Feng, his 'eyes' shifting to the flaming wolves, trying to find something similar in them.

However, nothing abnormal occurred even until life disappeared from their eyes.

This discovery brought Jiang Feng to focus on the Werewolf, no, the mysterious spot where spiritual energy flowed out from to heal its injuries.

His eyes narrowed as his Spiritual Sense focused on it even more, bringing Jiang Feng more details to the internals of the Werewolf. Finally, a dark blue core leaking of spiritual energy entered Jiang Feng's mind.

The core looked like a crystal ball, being transparent as spiritual energy became visible to Jiang Feng, taking up the form of a dark blue vortex that matched the core's appearance. The vortex of spiritual energy became smaller as time passed, with the injuries on the Werewolf slowly being healed.

The revelation of the strange core seemed to have alerted the Werewolf, as it glared at Jiang Feng with a threatening look, its beastly nature in full view. Yet, Jiang Feng showed no signs of apprehension towards it anymore, a smirk surfacing on his face.

"Now, let us allow the battle to truly start now, shall we?"
