Chapter 21 - KONOHA AWAITS

_Konoha Streets_

Night had fallen over Konoha, casting a dark and foreboding shadow over the devastated village. Hinata Uzumaki trudged through the desolate streets, her eyes scanning every alleyway and corner, every ruined building and debris-strewn square.

By her side, Shizune hung limp, unconscious and vulnerable. Hinata supported her, careful not to jostle her mentor further.

"Please, Shizune-san, hold on," Hinata whispered, her voice trembling. "We'll find Boruto and Himawari soon. I promise."

The streets were empty, the silence oppressive. Only the occasional crackle of burning embers or distant cry of a lonely bird broke the stillness.

Hinata's thoughts consumed her. Where could her children be? Were they safe? The uncertainty gnawed at her, fueling her determination.

As she turned a corner, the moon cast an eerie glow on the ruins. Hinata's gaze locked onto a familiar landmark – the remains of the Yamanaka Flower Shop.

She hastened toward the shop, hope flickering within her. Perhaps someone had seen her children.

The shop's entrance lay in shambles, but Hinata pushed on, calling out into the darkness.

"Boruto! Himawari!"

Only silence replied.

Suddenly, a faint murmur caught her attention. Hinata spun around, her Byakugan activated.

A group of villagers huddled together, whispering among themselves. Hinata approached, her heart racing.

"Excuse me, have you seen my children?" Hinata asked urgently.

One of the villagers, an elderly woman, looked up. "Hinata-san, we haven't seen them, but we saw some children fleeing that way."

She pointed down a narrow alleyway, lined with destroyed homes. Hinata's grip on Shizune tightened. This could be the lead she needed.

"Thank you," Hinata said, already moving in the direction indicated. With renewed determination, Hinata ventured deeper into the night.

As Hinata navigated the narrow alleyway, her Byakugan scanning every nook and cranny, she spotted the young child cowering behind debris.

The child's tiny body trembled, eyes wide with fear. Hinata rushed to their side. "Hey, it's okay," Hinata whispered softly, gently lifting the child into her arms. "You're safe now. I'm here." She examined the child's injuries, relief washing over her that they were minor.

"What's your name?" Hinata asked. "I-I'm Emiko," the child stammered. Hinata smiled reassuringly. "I'm Hinata. We'll find your family soon."

As she comforted Emiko, Hinata noticed a few villagers huddled together, watching her. "Excuse me, did any children pass through this place?" Hinata asked.

The villagers exchanged nervous glances.

One of them replied, "yes,we saw three children fleeing toward the central district."

Hinata's grip on Shizune tightened, her heart racing with hope. But she couldn't ignore the others in need.

"Is anyone injured?" Hinata asked the villagers.

A young man stepped forward, supporting an elderly woman. "My grandmother is injured," he said. Hinata swiftly examined the woman's wounds.

"We need to get her to safety," Hinata said. "Follow me." With Shizune still in her arms and Emiko clinging to her hand, Hinata led the group toward a nearby shelter.

As they walked, Hinata's thoughts consumed her. Where could Boruto and Himawari be?

As they approached the shelter's direction, Hinata's anxiety grew, her heart aching with every step. She needed to find Boruto and Himawari.

"Please, follow this street," Hinata said softly, guiding the villagers. "The shelter is just three blocks down. You'll find safety and warmth there."

She smiled reassuringly, her eyes filled with compassion.

"Please, take care of yourselves and each other," Hinata whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll find my children."

The villagers nodded, gratitude in their eyes.

"Thank you, Hinata-san," one of them said, their voice filled with emotion.

Hinata's gaze lingered on them, ensuring they understood.

With Shizune still cradled in her arms, Hinata turned away from the shelter, venturing deeper into the ruined streets.

The silence was oppressive, the darkness seeming to swallow everything.

Hinata called out her children's names, her voice trembling.

"Boruto... Himawari..."

Only silence replied.

She stood still, listening intently.

Suddenly, Hinata sensed a faint chakra signature – familiar, yet distant.

Her heart skipped a beat.

Hinata's eyes closed, focusing on the faint chakra signature. She breathed deeply, her senses heightening, as the familiar energy drew nearer.

With Shizune still cradled in her arms, Hinata navigated the ruins, her footsteps quiet on the rubble-strewn streets. The moon cast eerie shadows, but Hinata's Byakugan illuminated every detail.

As she turned a corner, a figure slowly emerged from the darkness. Hinata's gaze locked onto the figure, her heart skipping a beat.

Mitsuki's features became clear, his eyes widening in relief as their gazes met.

"Mitsuki-kun," Hinata whispered softly, concern etched on her face. "Are you alright?"

Mitsuki nodded hastily. "Y-yes, Hinata-san. I'm fine."

Hinata's gentle smile soothed Mitsuki's worries. "I'm glad," she said.

Mitsuki's expression turned inward, his eyes clouding. Then, his face cleared, determination etched on his features.

"Boruto!" he called out.

The door to a nearby abandoned building creaked open, revealing a faint light within.

Boruto stepped out cautiously, his eyes scanning the darkness. His hand instinctively reached for his ninja tool.

His gaze locked onto Hinata, and for a moment, he froze.

Who was this? An enemy? Then, something sparked – a familiar smile, eyes shining like the moon.

"K-Kaa chan?" Boruto's voice trembled, taking a step forward."

Hinata's heart swelled, tears welling up in her eyes.

Boruto's eyes widened, uncertainty giving way to hope. "K-Kaa chan?" he repeated, his voice cracking.

Hinata's face crumpled, tears streaming down her face. She gently handed Shizune to Mitsuki and opened her arms.

Boruto rushed to her, embracing her tightly. "Ka-chan!" he whispered, his voice muffled against her shoulder.

Himawari followed, clinging to Hinata's leg, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm so sorry, Boruto, Himawari," Hinata whispered, her voice trembling. "I shouldn't have left you alone."

Boruto pulled back, his eyes red-rimmed. "It's okay, Kaa-chan. We're safe. We're together now."

He took a deep breath, trying to reassure her. "I'm alright, Kaa-chan. We're alright."

Hinata's grip on him tightened. "I was so scared," she admitted, her voice barely audible. "I thought I'd lost you both."

Mitsuki watched, a warm smile on his face, as the family reunited.

Boruto's expression softened. "We were scared too, Kaa-chan. But we're together now."

Himawari looked up at Hinata, her eyes shining. "We missed you, Mama."

Hinata's tears flowed anew, her heart overflowing with love and guilt.

Mitsuki's expression turned serious. "We shouldn't linger here. It's not safe. The enemy may return soon."

Hinata's eyes locked onto Mitsuki's, understanding the gravity of the situation reflected in his gaze. "You're right. We can't stay here," she said, her voice firm but laced with concern.

Boruto nodded grimly, his thoughts racing with the implications. "We need to get out of here, now. That person could come back."

Mitsuki nodded curtly.

Hinata's gaze swept across her children, ensuring they were ready to leave. Her eyes lingered on Himawari, whose small face was etched with worry.

"Children, come with me," Hinata said, her voice steady. "We need to find Tou-san. He needs to know something."

Boruto suddenly stopped in his tracks, his eyes locked onto Hinata's. "No, Kaa-chan, I have to go," he said firmly.

Hinata's expression faltered, surprise and concern etched on her face. "What do you mean, Boruto? We need to find Tou-san."

"I was ordered to report to the hospital," Boruto explained. "All genin are required to assist with the aftermath."

Hinata's grip on Himawari's hand tightened. She couldn't bear the thought of leaving her child again, not after what happened during the attack.

"No, Boruto," Hinata said firmly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I won't let you go. Not now, not after...everything."

Her thoughts swirled with memories of Boruto's near-death experience, the anguish she endured thinking she'd lost him.

How could she let him go now, into the chaos and uncertainty of the hospital? What if something happened to him again?

"I won't lose you again, Boruto," Hinata thought to herself, her heart racing with anxiety. "I won't let you put yourself in harm's way."

Boruto's expression softened, seeing the worry etched on his mother's face. "Kaa-chan, it's okay. I'll be fine. Sakura-san is at the hospital, and she'll keep me safe."

Hinata's grip on Himawari's hand relaxed slightly, but her eyes still held concern.

"I promise, Kaa-chan," Boruto continued. "Mitsuki and I will take Shizune-san with us to the hospital. We'll help with the injured, and Sakura-sama will oversee everything."

Mitsuki nodded in agreement, his eyes locked onto Hinata's.

"Meanwhile, you and Himawari can look for Tou-chan," Boruto said, his voice reassuring. "You'll be safer together, and Tou-chan will want to know you're okay."

Hinata's thoughts swirled, weighing the risks and benefits. She trusted Sakura's skills and Boruto's judgment.

"Okay, Boruto," Hinata said finally, her voice steady. "But promise me you'll stay close to Sakura-chan and follow her instructions."

Boruto smiled, relief washing over his face. "I promise, Kaa-chan. We'll be fine."

Mitsuki nodded curtly. "I'll keep him safe, Hinata-san."

The two groups shared a solemn moment before parting ways.

"Be careful, Boruto," Hinata said, her voice laced with concern. "Take care of each other, and ensure Shizune-sama's safety. Reach the hospital safe and sound."

Boruto nodded, his eyes locked onto hers.

Mitsuki nodded curtly in agreement.

Hinata's gaze included both Boruto and Mitsuki. "Come back to us soon." Himawari clung to Hinata's hand, looking up at Boruto. "Onii-chan, be careful!"

She glanced at Mitsuki, her small voice filled with concern. "Mitsuki-nii chan, too!"

Boruto smiled reassuringly. "We will, Himawari. Take care of Kaa-chan."

With a final nod, Boruto, Mitsuki, and Shizune headed toward the hospital. Hinata and Himawari set off in the opposite direction, determined to find Naruto.

As Hinata navigated the empty market streets, her Byakugan scanned the surroundings, searching for any sign of Naruto. The silence was unnerving, a stark contrast to the bustling crowds that usually filled the village. Himawari's small hand felt fragile in hers, and Hinata's grip tightened instinctively.

"I must tell him about the Sharingan's presence before it's too late," she thought, her mind racing with the urgency. Earlier, Shizune had fallen under a mysterious genjutsu, and Hinata's instincts told her it was the work of a Sharingan.

Though she knew Sasuke and Sarada possessed the Sharingan, her intuition whispered that neither of them was responsible. The presence felt different, unfamiliar.

Hinata's gaze swept across the rooftops, her Byakugan piercing through the shadows. Still, no sign of Naruto. Frowning, she quickened their pace, Himawari skipping to keep up.

Unbeknownst to Hinata, Naruto was far beyond the village borders, facing an adversary whose power sent shivers down his spine. The Rinnegan man's eyes seemed to bore into his very soul.

At the outskirts of Konoha, Naruto clashed with the mysterious foe, their chakra swirling in a deadly dance. The air reverberated with the force of their battle, yet Hinata remained oblivious, her search continuing in vain.

The Fourth Hokage's stone face, a symbol of Konoha's resilience, stood steadfast, but above it, a figure sat enthroned. The Rinnegan man's gaze swept across the ravaged village, his eyes absorbing the devastation he had unleashed.

Konoha, once a thriving hub of life and laughter, now lay in ruins. Buildings stood as charred skeletons, their windows shattered, and roofs collapsed. The streets, once filled with the vibrant sounds of merchants and villagers, were now desolate and silent.

Smoke billowed from the east side, where flames had consumed entire city blocks. The once-majestic trees of the Hidden Leaf's central park now stood as blackened stumps, their branches snapped and twisted.

The Rinnegan man's eyes lingered on the destroyed Hokage Residence, its walls cracked and crumbling. A cold, calculating smile spread across his face, reflecting the chaos he had brought upon the village.

Naruto, the Seventh Hokage, was nowhere to be seen, but the Rinnegan man sensed his presence, felt his unyielding spirit. Their battle raged on, hidden from the village's gaze.

The Rinnegan man's gaze drifted downward, his eyes locking onto the Fourth Hokage's stone face. Minato's determined expression seemed to stare straight through him, a silent challenge.

"You were a great shinobi, Namikaze Minato," the Rinnegan man said, his voice low and gravelly. "But your legacy will soon be erased."

"Konoha's strongest will fall, and I will reshape this village in my image."

Naruto's furious roar echoed through the outskirts, growing louder. The Rinnegan man's smile widened.

"Ah, the Hokage is closing in." the Rinnegan man said, his smile unwavering.
