Chapter 102 - The Prisoners

(Baelon's POV)

"What do you have for me?" I asked Larys as I approached him

He was leaning against the wall, the light of the torches in the distanced reflected off his face as he looked at me. We were in the dungeons, Otto had called for me, telling me to meeting him in the cells where the two Bastards were. I had sent for Larys to ask for a report about the two men that survived.

I wanted to know the truth, the truth about them.

"Not much." He said with a sigh, "It is quite difficult to gather information at a time like this."

I stood in front of him, "There is a lot of information that you need to get me." I told him, "You should know that."

"One thing is for sure, though....these two men are from Essos." He said, "It will take me a bit more time than expected to find out the truth about their heritage but it is quite clear they are of Targaryen blood."

"One of them claimed to be Vaegon's son." I told him, "That cannot be possible."

"That is why I said it would be difficult." Larys said, "They claim one thing, but our knowledge says otherwise. We believe that Archmaester Vaegon was celibate, but that was what he claimed. King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne did not find any reason not to believe him. From what they said, Vaegon was a serious and stern man."

"Hm...." I said, "Your Brother was found among mercenaries....is it safe to assume that those men were among said mercenaries?"

"I believe that is the case, My Prince." He said, "Give me a bit more time."

"Trevor mentioned others....." I said as I crossed my arms, "There are other Bastards...."

"Well, there are Targaryen bastards...or at least people with Targaryen blood." He said, "Trevor's lover and her brothers were one. Their mother must have been one."

"I wonder who their mother descended from...." I said

"You should ask your Father and Uncle. All due respect, they're the only ones old enough to know what happened in the later stages of King Jaehaerys's reign." He told me, "But I will try to discover to the truth."

I nodded, "Fine." I said, "Just remember what your role here is...I have not forgotten what you have done for me. I will make sure you are rewarded."

"My life is reward enough." Larys said as he began to limp away, "I did poison a Lord after all. And serving under you is something I have no complaints of."

I began to walk towards the end of the hallway, "Very well." I said, "I expect to hear a report from you soon."

I then began to make my way towards the cells and after a few more minutes, I reached them. There were some guards posted around the cells, holding torches to light the room and I saw Otto standing in front of a specific cell, Ser Criston standing next to him.

I reached them, "Otto." I said, "You had called for me?"

He looked at me, "Forgive me, My Prince." He said, "I know you would rather spend your precious time with the Princess Helaena."

I stood next to them and looked inside the cell, "Well, I hope this is important." I said, "Because she did not want me to leave her side."

Inside the cell, I saw the bastard that called himself Daron, sitting on the far side and leaned against the wall.

"Their wounds were treated and they will live." Otto told me, "But other than that, not much has changed. They have not spoken much."

"Hm...." I said, "Have you gotten Lord Larys to do something? He specializes in this."

"I would require leave from the King. He had specifically told me that no torture is allowed." he told me

"Sometimes I do not agree with Father...." I said with a frown, "But Torture is tasteless sometimes...however, at times where we require information, it cannot be avoided."

I looked at Daron, he was looking down. I could tell that he was scowling, angry at something.

Otto cleared his throat, "You're in the presence of the Heir." He called over, "I would straighten up if I were you."

"I don't give a shit." Daron said with an annoyed tone, "Fuck off."

Otto looked at me, "If he does speak, it is something like that."

I raised my eyebrow, "Is that so?" I said before looking at Daron, "I take it you will live."

"It seems like it." He slowly looked at me, "You should have killed me when you had the chance. The more time that passes and I still live, the worse it will get for you."

I looked to the other cell next to his, seeing the other one was sitting down in the corner. I believe this one was called Lynn.

"Whose sons are you?" I asked, "I ask you again."

"I told you...." He said, "I am Vaegon's son."

"That is not possible." Otto told him, "We already told you that Archmaester Vaegon was celibate."

"There is a lot about the Targaryens that even you don't know about, Otto Hightower." Daron scowled at us, "So many dark secrets that not even King Jaehaerys was able to find out."

"Is that so?" Otto said

"I ask you something." Daron said, "What happened to Gael Targaryen before she died? Why didn't Daella Targaryen leave The Eyrie for two entire years after your King's late wife Aemma was born? What exactly happened with Viserra? All those questions, are you certain that you have the answers to them?"

I looked at Otto, "What the hell is he talking about?"

He frowned, "I do not know."

"Exactly my point." Daron said, "The truth is that Viserys Targaryen did not deserve to be King. His Father was the Heir but before Baelon The Brave, it was Aemon Targaryen. It gets much more complicated from there, doesn't it? Rhaenys was meant to be Queen but was overlooked."

"Yes, I am aware." I told him, "That is why Corlys was so bitter after all this time. But what does that have to do with you?"

"It was her birthright. Was it so wrong for Corlys to seek it out again?" He continued as he slowly stood up

The moment he stood up, Criston placed his hand on the handle of his blade.

"Birthright....." I said, "So that is what this is about?"

"That is right." Daron said as he made his way towards the front of the cell, "You have no fucking idea how long we have waited for this. We seek our birthright, Baelon Targaryen. How do you think we feel? We who watched little shits like you wield so much power just because you were fortunate enough to be born in this castle?"

I blinked, "You're a bastard." I said, "I have no fault in what circumstance you were born into. I can only assume that you were born in Essos or at the very least you grew up there."

"You are smarter than you look." He said as he reached the bars, "Do you think us and Eryn are the only ones? No, you're wrong. There's more of us."

"More bastards....." Otto said

"Call us that if you want. But there are plenty more Dragonseeds across the world." Daron said, "And we will get what is rightfully ours..."

I sighed, "You want Dragons...."

"That is right." He said with a smirk

"Of course...." I said, "Anyone with the dragon's blood would desire that.....but let me tell you something.....it won't happen..."

"As we speak....." Daron said, "A fleet is being formed. It is all part of my plan. If Lynn and I die here, your shores will be assaulted with a violent invasion."

"Is that so?" Otto said, "You stand no chance against House Targaryen's dragons."

"Do you want me to tell you what will happen when the other Dragonseeds happen to come across those unclaimed dragons?" Daron smirked

"War." I said, "A bloody and fiery one."

"You are smart indeed." Daron said

"Well....." I said as I stepped back, "If what you say is true and there are more of you..."

"I guess there's only one thing to do."
