It was the very first time Phoebe was having breakfast with her family and so far, it was going well even though Collin was absent and he had been gone all night. Nobody had mentioned him, ghosts or Ruth so far which Phoebe appreciated because she knew they were doing it for her sake.
The silence was interrupted by a phone call to Jennie which made her step away from the table for a few minutes. When she returned, her face was as pale as a white sheet of paper and her eyes swollen.
Everyone could tell that something was wrong and there were only a handful of reasons why in the current circumstances.
"What is it?" Edward asked her.
She put down the phone with trembling hands and looked at her husband. "It's about Ruth, someone from the hospital has just called me. Apparently she has some type of illness, possibly cancer related or an immune deficiency disorder which explains her weak immune system all these years. The doctor has asked us to go to the hospital immediately...."
