The filming of Dark Shadow was progressing steadily.
The company's development was also moving forward smoothly.
However, American society was experiencing significant turmoil. On the afternoon of April 15th, at 2:50 PM, during the Boston Marathon, two sudden explosions occurred.
The two explosions were about 15 seconds apart, resulting in three fatalities and 260 injuries.
Additionally, upon investigation, the police discovered an unexploded bomb.
This incident caused an uproar across the United States, with countless citizens expressing their anger and demanding justice. The White House also held a press conference to express condolences.
Even celebrities across the country couldn't avoid addressing the issue. Even Ethan had to pause filming and accept interviews from reporters to share his thoughts on the incident.
However, the ones most affected were actually the mafia. In order to prevent such incidents from happening in their cities, various state governments ordered law enforcement to crack down on unstable elements.
But since terrorists wouldn't simply reveal themselves, the mafia, being much more conspicuous, became the primary target. Many of the less cautious mafia groups suffered, with numerous members arrested and sent to prison.
America's private prisons were pleased—this was a prime opportunity for profit. They quickly collaborated with judges to impose harsher sentences.
As a result, in just one month, thousands of new prisoners with sentences of over ten years were added to the system.
Davis seized this opportunity.
Since returning to New York, he had been contemplating how to make a comeback. Now, with his rivals in the mafia weakened by government crackdowns, he swiftly moved in to seize their business.
With Ethan's connections in the police force, he achieved victory after victory, always managing to complete deals and leave before law enforcement arrived. He even tipped off the police about his rivals' transactions.
Under this dual assault, his enemies quickly crumbled and retreated on all fronts.
Davis took the opportunity to expand, absorbing their market share and annexing several gangs.
By the time the aftermath of the Boston incident had settled, his rivals no longer had the strength to compete with his organization.
This left Davis feeling somewhat disappointed—he hadn't expected such a powerful gang to collapse so easily. But this situation also made him realize the reality of his position.
Joining the mafia would never lead to a good outcome.
Thus, he began using his resources to enter legitimate businesses, such as bars, strip clubs, and restaurants.
Ethan naturally offered him some assistance—but, of course, in exchange for favors.
In the business world, there were always uncooperative individuals. Ethan needed Davis to handle certain matters that couldn't be done openly—things like threats and surveillance—to ensure that people fell in line.
However, to avoid any direct ties with Davis, all communications were handled through intermediaries, without any mention of Ethan or Norton Eye.
Through this mutual understanding, Davis spent four months firmly establishing himself in New York, completely eliminating his rivals.
At the same time, Ethan successfully wrapped up filming.
The post-production work on this film was more extensive than previous projects, so its release was scheduled for the following year. Fortunately, Norton Eye had several other superhero films filling this year's slate, ensuring audiences had plenty to watch.
After finishing filming, Ethan spent most of his time resting at home.
His little angel, Elena, had now learned to communicate fluently with the family. She was incredibly smart, started reading early, and had an exceptional talent for languages. She could remember every bit of Chinese Ethan had taught her.
At home, she spoke in a mix of English and Chinese.
This gave Jessica a headache.
"Ethan, stop teaching her Chinese. If this keeps up, I won't understand what she's saying anymore," Jessica complained while lounging on the bed in a loose outfit, her long legs exposed.
Despite having a child, she had maintained her stunning figure, diligently working out every day.
Ethan pulled her into an embrace and said, "I only taught her a few simple greetings. If you want to talk to her, you can learn too."
"No thanks, learning a new language is too exhausting," Jessica replied, shaking her head. She figured Elena's love for learning must have come from Ethan's genes.
The little angel was endlessly curious, wanting to learn new things every day. Whether it was musical instruments or building blocks, she adapted quickly. She even knew how to use Jessica's beauty devices.
"I think she might become a scholar in the future," Ethan speculated.
Jessica nodded. "That would be great. I don't want her getting into Hollywood."
"She can choose whatever path she wants," Ethan shrugged with a smile. "No matter what she decides, I'll support her unconditionally."
"So will I." Jessica kissed Ethan and then said, "Anne hasn't visited in a while. She must be busy with work."
Anne Hathaway had already become an unofficial part of the family. Though she was technically just Elena's godmother, the little girl adored her.
"She's busy filming La La Land, spending all her time learning to dance," Ethan chuckled. "You know, musicals aren't easy to make."
In Hollywood, musicals always had a unique place. Thanks to Broadway's influence, American audiences loved actors who could dance.
Female stars flocked to these films, hoping to showcase their dancing skills and charm.
Anne had never done a musical before, so this was her first challenge. She was putting in a lot of effort, afraid that her performance wouldn't meet expectations.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift was focused on her new album, spending long hours in the recording studio.
Avril Lavigne was in Japan filming her latest music video. At some point, she had developed an interest in Japanese culture—perhaps it was the neon-lit streets of Tokyo that fascinated her. Plus, she had a huge fanbase in Japan, drawing large crowds every time she visited.
As for Cindy, she was fully dedicated to acting. Ethan believed that, given her talent, she might win an Oscar one day.
On the other hand, Kayden was soaring in the modeling industry. She had become one of the top models in North America, and Ethan even supported her in starting her own modeling agency.
That made her the first among them to become a business owner.
Interestingly, the flight attendant, Fisher, was now working at Kayden's agency. She had even made it to the Victoria's Secret runway, achieving her personal dream.
All of this made Ethan's life much more stable compared to previous years. The relationships around him had also settled into place.
But that didn't mean he planned to immerse himself in a life of comfort.
In fact, he still faced many challenges ahead.
