Chapter 7 - Missed Me, Son?

Few Days Later

Detective William is reading his daily newspaper with a morning cup of tea. As he continues reading, he sees something that bawls his eyes out but makes him extremely proud.

The headline reads out "Murder in Gatsby: Detective Lucas Williams to Lead The Case".

As he continues reading, he finds out that the one who was murdered was a merchant from London. He keeps reading the whole description about the murder with peak interest.

With great amusement, he thinks of it as a great plan for his reunion with his son, Lucas.

Having immense interest in the case, detective Williams starts to analyze the case and every nooks and crannies about the details.

After his preparation, detective Williams travels to the country of Gatsby not knowing what's about to bestow upon him.

Meanwhile, Lucas is doing the preparation for the crime scene with Alex.

Alex, with the most intense stare, tells Lucas and Dennis, "Remember you both, every detail should have a background with it, do not make any mistakes or it won't take time for you to realize who detective Williams is.."

"Don't worry, if detective Williams finds out about your lies, you won't need to worry about him, the one whom you need to worry about will be Deadman, the one who's able to kill you without hesitation"

At this time, Lucas and Dennis are both in a state where they can't go back. All they can do now is swallow their spit and nod.

"I'm sorry, I'll be back", says Lucas and leaves the location.

Dennis notices something weird about Lucas and follows him.

He finds Lucas taking a smoke while leaning against a wall. He seems to be in a deep thinking about something or is concerned about something.

"You alright mate?", Dennis asks.

"Yeah, pretty much alright", Lucas replies.

"What's been eating you?"

"This shitty situation I'm stuck in.. I know I will be in a place where I won't be able to go back.. I've never killed anyone.. let alone someone like my father.. I don't even know why I said that much things to you that other day.. I'm scared, Dennis"

"Scared eh.. Well, we're all scared, aren't we? With how fast life goes, I doubt anyone ain't scared of the upcoming future.. but now it's the life you decided Lucas, you decided to follow your emotions and me, I've decided to follow my own friend"

"Well, I'm not sure about all this..."

Dennis looks at Lucas' eyes and says "I have trust in you, Lucas. Whatever you do, I know you'll succeed, just 'cause I've been with you all these years, I understand you, my friend."

Lucas doesn't change his emotions even a bit. He still seems upset about something, he gives Dennis a gentle look and then looks down again and says "No you don't..." and walks off.

Lucas throws away the cigarette he was smoking out of the balcony. Dennis looks at him with a concerned face but not even realizing- Lucas had never smoked in his entire life, until today.

Suddenly, a voice calls out.. "Hey Lucas, when will your father arrive?"

It was just Alex shouting.

"Wasn't it you who was supposed to know that?", Lucas replies.

Alex, with a drop of sweat falling down, blanks out with her eyes wide open.

Suddenly, Lucas' phone rings.

"Uhhh... hello? Who's this?", Lucas replies in a small confused voice.

"Lucas, my child, I've come to see you, it's your dad, did you miss me?", the man in the phone replies.

Lucas gets horrified knowing his father has already landed in his hometown but more horrified that his father has his phone number.

"Old man, how did you even get my number?", Lucas replies in a monotone voice.

"Did you forget who I am?", his father replies.

"Well.. it seems like you've landed- Wh-Where even are you right now?", Lucas now starts to stutter.

"Behind you!!"

Lucas hurriedly looks behind him but he finds nobody.

"I'm just kidding- I'm shopping for a while.. I'll be there soon, I promise", his father says in a laughing voice.

"Wait- but I'm not at home"

"I know exactly where you are kiddo, don't worry.."

"Wait, what's that even supposed to mean?"

The call then hangs up.

Lucas panics. His father is inside his country right now and he doesn't know what to do and besides, he's planning to kill him.

"Hey, Lucas, wanna play a game of chess.. just like that one time we played in the orphanage?", Alex offers Lucas.

"Wait, you remember that?", Lucas says in a surprised voice.

Alex chuckles a bit but then replies

"Well yeah, I remember everything- Anyways, are you up for the game or not?"

"Why a game of chess at this hour? My dad's coming, I don't know when he'll come, I'm nervous as hell!"

"I need to see if you're prepared or not.. I even brought a board with me, come.."

"You're weird"

Alex says nothing but just chuckles again a bit.

They keep playing for 6 minutes until they reach the endgame. At this point, both of them have pieces worth of equal value and importance.

"Oh, by the way, I forgot to ask something!", Lucas points out.

"Go ahead..", Alex replies.

They both talk while playing.

"How did you manage to get the dead body of a random person, whom did you even ask? Do you think my father will be convinced that it's a murder?"

"Oops.. Checkmate!!"

"Anyways, Come with me.. lemme show you something"

Lucas follows Alex.

"Look at this dead body and tell me how he we set him up to be like a murdered body?"

"His neck has rope marks, which means he must have been strangled to death, but wait- It cannot be that simple! If we look closer at his neck, it's just strangling marks, there's no stop of blood flow which means it must have been a setup to distract from the original way he was murdered. His body doesn't have any more marks which must mean he must have been fed poison or some other toxic substance.. Damn, you guys are really smart.. How did you even manage to pull such a nice setup?"

"This isn't a setup, you're investigating a real murder case, of Mr. Ronald Paisley, the father of the kid who was framed in the church"
