It took Zach days to travel to the forest area where his "Kitty" was last seen. As for how he knew where his precious Kitty was?
He held a folded newspaper cutout in his right hand that he had unfolded to show a couple of pictures of the survivors of a ferocious bear attack. As Zach quickly drove his all-wheel drive truck up the mountain trail—going slow so that he doesn't cause an accident—he looked at the photo of a older and more mature version of his Kitty.
There was no mistaking how handsome and otherworldly his Kitty became while it was living as a lawyer. Zach knew that Soren had been here mere days ago and the trail was cold yet again, but for the life of him, he never quite understood how his Kitty was managing to stay away from him for so long.
"Why must you be so hard to catch?" He whispered softly to the immobile yet still beautiful picture of his Kitty. "I promise that I won't hurt you, Kitty~ Just let me pet you again..."
He pulled up to the forest ranger service shack near the forests entrance and pulled out his credentials to the working ranger. The ranger was a bit shocked to see someone like Zach show up because of the bear incident, but was very hospitable.
"What brings you here, Agent?" The ranger inquired. "I doubt it is because of some wild bear attacks."
"I'm looking for an old friend of mine," Zach replied, his voice not quite as distracted as before. More deeper and colder. "He didn't tell anyone he was here and I was curious about his current status due to the bear attack you folks had a few days back."
He then showed the ranger Soren's photo. Upon seeing the photo, the ranger immediately recognized him.
"Oh him? Well, after getting checked by the paramedics, he said he was going home. Thankfully, he wasn't going to press charges."
"Why would he press charges?" Zach asked.
"Well," the ranger replied with a slight nervousness in their voice, "it was because we had no idea about such vicious attacks when he got his permit to camp here. Even the nice kids who were there that night to look for their brother seemed to have gotten him caught up in that mess."
Zach visibly darkened once he heard that his Kitty was in danger because of the wild animal attacks, but quickly schooled himself so that the ranger didn't fully understand his anger. He would have to talk to his mom and dad again to see what was really happening here as the ranger offered little valuable information.
"Well, I certainly hope that this makes you rangers keep a better eye on things," Zach remarked coldly. "It would be a shame to report to my superiors that government funding was not being well spent on security measures to protect their campers."
After his cold remark to the ranger, he quickly turned back and got back into his truck. Zach put his badge and the newspaper clipping into the passenger seat as he turned on his truck to depart from this place.
While the truck engine roared to life once again, the ID badge that Zach used was an actual legitimate badge for the FBI. Not only as a low level agent, but as a Special Supervisory Agent.
