The next morning, Hobert bid farewell to Klein and left Tingen City on the first train to Backlund.
He arrived back in Backlund at half past ten in the morning, and it took him another half an hour to return to Banca Street by taxi carriage.
Xio and Fors were not at home. There was a note on the table for Hobert, saying they would both be back at noon.
After waiting for about ten minutes, Fors returned first. She had found a job as a chef's apprentice in a restaurant on the next street.
To be honest, this writer Miss does have some initiative, as long as she can overcome the temptation of the armchair.
Today, Fors was making fried squid, a dish she had just learned. She cut the squid, washed it clean, mixed it with seasonings, and then fried it in hot oil. The aroma could be smelled in the street.
Xio returned with bread just as the squid was almost done frying.
She tidied up the dining room nimbly and then sat there like a good baby, waiting for dinner.
After busying herself for a few more minutes, Fors brought the squid to the table.
None of the three had a habit of praying, so they started eating immediately.
Hobert took a bite and found it delicious. The freshness of the squid was brought out by the hot oil, and the seasonings removed the fishy taste, leaving only the smooth and fresh flavor.
However, why bread again?
Hobert decided that he must make some pancakes for dinner, or go out and buy some rice to cook.
Thinking of this, Hobert felt a little strange. Logically speaking, since there are 'Farmers' in this world, why haven't they cultivated 'hybrid rice' yet?
This makes the price of rice much higher than that of flour and beans. Even the middle class can't afford to eat rice every meal.
Lost in thought, Hobert quickly used his knife and fork to grab another piece of squid, or Xio would eat it all.
This girl's figure has remained in her teenage years, and her appetite seems to have remained in her growing-up stage.
After eating his fill, Hobert got up and said, "I went to bed a little late last night, and I'm still a little tired. I'm going to catch up on some sleep. No need to buy bread for dinner. I'll make some, uh, I'll make some different staple foods."
Xio and Fors agreed. The two chatted while cleaning the table.
After Fors washed the dishes, Xio had already made tea. One shared her experiences as an apprentice, and the other talked about the tasks she had received today.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Xio looked out the window at the door. Outside was a girl with naturally curly golden hair and a boy with short golden hair.
The girl wore a dress with blue lace and a blue ribbon, while the boy wore a well-made shirt and jacket. Xio could feel the youthful energy even through the door.
"Who are you looking for?" Xio didn't open the door immediately but asked from inside.
The girl and boy were taken aback, and then the girl said apologetically, "Sorry, we have the wrong place."
"It's okay," Xio said with a smile. Judging by their appearance and hair, they should be siblings. This reminded Xio of her own brother, so she took a few more glances.
The girl and boy returned to the entrance and carefully looked at the door number, then their faces filled with disbelief.
Xio probably understood. She opened the door and asked, "Are you here to see Hobert?"
"Yes, yes," The girl and boy were Donna and Tyron, siblings. They had mentioned during dinner at home that they would come to see Hobert.
But Hobert was too busy this week and forgot.
Donna looked at Xio with surprise. Xio's attire was not that of a maid. Could it be that she was Hobert's girlfriend? But she looked like she was still in grammar school! She should be six or seven years younger than Hobert!
"Who is it?" Fors also came to the door to ask.
Donna nodded. This lady was about the same age as Hobert, and both her looks and temperament were very good. If Hobert's aesthetic was still normal, this should be his girlfriend.
Then Donna smiled: No wonder Hobert wanted to move out, it turned out he had a girlfriend.
Tyron, on the other hand, had already honestly introduced himself and Donna.
When Fors and Xio heard that they were Hobert's younger sister and brother, they warmly welcomed them in.
Donna asked, "Where's Hobert?"
Xio poured tea for them while casually saying, "He's resting upstairs!"
Donna was stunned: "He doesn't have the habit of taking naps."
Xio rummaged through the cabinets for snacks while casually saying, "He was a little tired last night, so he's resting at noon."
Donna seemed to realize something: "How do you know he was tired last night?"
"He said it himself!" Xio breathed a sigh of relief, finally finding a box of snacks she hadn't eaten.
Donna sized up Xio: "So you are, you are... you and Hobert, have already, already... sister-in-law!"
Xio was stunned: "Huh?"
"Who's here?" Hobert asked as he came downstairs, yawning.
Donna rushed over: "Hobert! What did you say before? Telling me not to date in school, but you're so fast to find a girlfriend!
"And, and, she's still in grammar school, how can you..."
Hobert looked at his sister with disbelief: "Donna, did you leave your brain at home when you went out today?"
A few minutes later.
Amid Hobert's laughter, Donna blushed and kept apologizing to Xio: "I'm sorry, Miss Xio, I misunderstood you."
Xio waved her hand helplessly: "It's nothing. But there's one thing I must explain, I graduated from grammar school a long time ago."
Fors turned her face to the other side, trying hard not to laugh.
Hobert laughed even louder: "Donna, you, you should learn to write novels from Fors, your inner thoughts are too much, I admire you!"
"Don't laugh!" Donna finally became angry: "How could you forget that we were coming today? What kind of brother are you?"
Hobert did stop laughing: "It is indeed my fault, but tell me the truth, do you think every pretty lady who has contact with me is your sister-in-law!"
After saying that, Hobert laughed again: "Brother wants to thank you! You have more ideas than your brother! I'll let you be the brother in the next life!"
Just as he was about to make Donna cry, Hobert finally tried hard to stop laughing, then introduced them to each other and asked Tyron to help him make pancakes in the kitchen.
Donna was a very cheerful girl. She quickly forgot about what happened just now, asking Xio about bounty hunter issues, and asking Fors where the inspiration for 'Wuthering Heights' came from.
In the evening, Tyron brought the hot scallion pancakes to the table. Hobert cut some Loen pickles, and Fors made a salad.
Everyone praised Hobert's 'invention' of scallion pancakes, never expecting that pancakes could be so delicious with just scallions and oil.
And the Loen people basically eat pies and pizzas. Although they each have their own flavor, both pizza and pie making are too cumbersome and greasy.
Hobert sighed in his heart, fortunately, Roselle left a way out for later generations. In terms of cuisine, his 'inventions' are not many.
After eating his fill, Hobert sent Donna and Tyron to their family's carriage. In the carriage, Tyron suddenly said, "Hobert is very happy now."
"Yes," Donna unconsciously showed a smile: "He is much happier than before, maybe he has found the life he wants."
