Chapter 208 - 208. Gasoline Saw? Freight Carriage?

Jason Liu successfully negotiated a deal for 500 sets of solar-powered lighting equipment, securing a price of 1,300 yuan per set instead of the original 1,400 yuan. This saved him a total of 100,000 yuan. Once the purchase was complete, he transported the equipment to Westeros before returning to handle more business.

As soon as he got back, Jason called Oliver.

"Mr. Liu, I purchased 500 sets of solar lighting equipment from yesterday. They are now stored safely in the warehouse," Oliver reported promptly, knowing his boss preferred efficiency over unnecessary chatter.

"Good job," Jason praised him briefly before moving on. "I'll take care of transporting them, so you don't need to worry about that. However, I have something else for you to handle."

Oliver had initially planned to discuss another matter regarding carriages, but he quickly held back and instead responded, "Of course. Please go ahead, Mr. Liu. I'll take note of everything."

Jason continued, "Under the name of Ironwood Timber Co, I need you to place an order for 200 gasoline-powered saws. Also, purchase an additional batch of gasoline."

"Two hundred gasoline saws?" Oliver was surprised. "Are these for logging?"

While Ironwood Timber Co was indeed a wood processing company, it had never required such a large number of gasoline saws before. However, remembering his past experience of being reprimanded for questioning orders, he decided against asking too many questions. His job was to follow instructions, not analyze them.

"Understood, Mr. Liu. I've noted it down," he responded while quickly notting down the details in his notepad. "Shall I store the gasoline saws and fuel in the warehouse at the High-Tech Zone's outer ring?"

"Yes, once the purchase is complete, have everything sent directly to that warehouse." Jason was pleased with Oliver's obedience and lack of unnecessary questioning. He then added another task, "Also, get in touch with Director Thomas from Carriage Factory. Ask if they can manufacture four-wheeled freight carriages. If they can't, find another factory that can."

"Four-wheeled freight carriages?" Oliver was taken aback. The last order they placed with Carriage Factory had been for passenger carriages. Now his boss was requesting freight carriages instead.

"It's quite simple," Jason explained. "They need to have a long steel chassis with four wheels. These carriages are meant for transporting logs and will be pulled by horses or oxen. Just tell Director Thomas the purpose and requirements—he should understand."

Although Jason tried to keep the explanation short, he also knew he had to be thorough to prevent any mistakes. He even emphasized the need for horses and oxen to pull the carriages.

Sitting at his desk, Oliver couldn't help but feel puzzled by the request. It was 2020, yet here he was, discussing carriages pulled by horses and oxen.

However, since Jason was paying him well, he pushed aside his doubts and said, "Got it, Mr. Liu. I will relay your instructions to Director Thomas and follow up on the production of these four-wheeled freight carriages."

"Remember, these are for transporting heavy logs over rough, unpaved roads," Jason reminded him.

"Understood. I've written everything down." Oliver held back his complaints. He had no idea where these carriages would be used, but he assumed it had to be somewhere extremely underdeveloped.

After finalizing the arrangements for logging and transportation, Jason remembered the luxury carriages he had ordered for the northern lords.

"Mr. Liu, don't worry. I contacted Director Thomas at Carriage Factory yesterday. The large carriages and small carriages are already in production," Oliver reported.

He continued excitedly, "For the first batch, Director Thomas has agreed to prioritize 30 large carriages and 30 small ones. He is hiring extra workers and working overtime to complete them within seven days."

Jason nodded, satisfied. "Did you negotiate the price?"

"Yes! Since our total order exceeds 10 million yuan, I renegotiated with Director Thomas and managed to lower the price. The large carriages are now 90,000 yuan each, and the small ones are 60,000 yuan each—10,000 yuan cheaper than before!" Oliver couldn't hide his excitement.

This price reduction meant they were saving a total of 2 million yuan.

"Well done, Manager Oliver," Jason praised. "I will notify Manager Lin from the finance department. Your purchasing team will receive double wages this month. At the end of the year, your team's contributions will also be considered for bonuses."

"Thank you, Mr. Liu! We will continue to work hard!" Oliver responded happily.

As the purchasing department manager, his monthly salary was already 20,000 yuan. With the double pay, he would now receive 40,000 yuan.

He knew the savings from the carriage deal weren't solely due to his efforts. The factory manager had been quite open to price reductions. However, since the negotiation was handled by his department, they were taking the credit.

After ending the call, Oliver didn't immediately share the good news with his team. He looked at a recently hired employee, and thought about how lucky she was. Within just a month of joining, she was already benefiting from a salary increase.

As a new employee, she was entitled to housing subsidies, meal allowances, and transportation costs, along with five social insurances and one housing fund. Her base salary was already 6,000 yuan, which was higher than most new hires. With this month's double salary, she would be even happier.

Smiling slightly, Oliver then called two of his subordinates, Ethan and Ryan, who were out on business.

"Ethan, are you and Ryan back from Gemei Carriage Factory yet?" he asked.

Ethan, who was sitting in the passenger seat of a car, saw his boss's call and quickly answered. "Brother Oliver, Ryan and I are driving back to Zheng City. We should be at the company in about an hour."

"Alright, take your time. Drive safely," Oliver replied, feeling quite pleased with the day's accomplishments.
