Chapter 28 - First day

Callisto went straight to the store counter and found the young man, Hinata.

"Good morning," Callisto greeted politely.

"Oh, Miss Mandjet, good morning," Hinata greeted back, a small smile tugging his lips. "Boss Selly is waiting for you in her office."

"Oh, right, thank you."

Callisto went inside the personnel only door to Selly's office.

"Oh, right on time, Callisto," Selly uttered upon the young lady's entrance. "Here is your uniform."

Selly pulled out a t-shirt akin to the ones worn by Selly and the young man. The name Callisto was burned onto the same chest pocket as the others.

"Callisto," She repeated the name under her breath, a proud smile played on her lips. "Where can I go and change, Boss?"

"The dressing room is right behind the office," Selly replied. "Just go around and you'll be there."

"Yes!"

Not wanting to waste any more time, Callisto left the office and went to the dressing room.

Before long, the young lady came out of the dressing room, wearing her silver hair in a nice ponytail, her red uniform, and black pants.

A mix of nervousness and excitement coursed through her veins as she walked past Selly's office and out of the storage room through the personnel door.

Stepping foot into the main area of the store, two new faces were having a conversation in front of the counter with Hinata. The two were wearing the exact same uniform as her and the young man.

"It's been months already, but I still can't believe they went to three grand finals in a row and win two of them," said one of the two guys in front of Hinata, his voice audible with excitement. "That game 4 and 5 was peak performance!"

"I get you, Lew," the other guy responded, giving Lew a blank gaze. "But you don't have to say it every chance you get."

A small smile appeared on Hinata's lips. "You two really like 1Team, huh."

"Of course we are," Lew spouted with great enthusiasm. "Fran and I have been fans since 2013!"

The man called Fran nodded wordlessly, his nonchalant demeanor a contrast to Lew's rather energetic vibe.

"Win or lose, we are 1Team all the way," declared Fran, his voice calm, but a hint of passion for his favorite team was just as audible as Lew's.

Callisto approached the three.

"Good morning," she greeted, unable to mask the faint sense of nervousness in her voice and stiff posture.

The three turned their attention towards the silver-haired girl.

"I am Callisto Mandjet," she introduced herself before the three fellows. "I'll be working with you starting today."

Hinata flashed a kind smile at the young lady. "The uniform suits you nicely."

Meanwhile the two were left in awe as they drink in the peculiar sight of Callisto's silver hair and cat ears, as well as her small, beautiful white face. They then introduced themselves.

"So you're the new part-timer Boss and Hinata mentioned. I'm Francis Vannes. I'll be a freshman in college this year. Looking forward to working with you, Mandjet."

Francis extended an arm towards Callisto, offering a handshake.

"Looking forward to working with you, too, Vannes."

Callisto accepted the offered handshake.

Francis' manner of speaking and everything else about him was exuding maturity. In Callisto's eyes, Francis seemed like a really dependable older brother she could rely on anytime.

"And I am Lewis Alexander," Lewis said, approaching the young lady to also offer his handshake. "I'm also gonna be a freshman in college this year. If you have any concern regarding your work, feel free to tell us, okay?"

"Yes. I'm looking forward to working with you."

"Me, too."

On the other hand, Lewis seemed like an older brother you could easily talk to about nonsensical things and have a laugh together.

Talking to Lewis reminded Callisto of Elesis because of their outgoing and carefree personalities.

"We've already talked yesterday, but I haven't properly introduced myself yet," Hinata interjected, still wearing a friendly smile. "My name is Hinata Sarino. I'll be in 11th grade this year. Please just call me Hinata."

"I understand, Hinata," Callisto responded, smiling back at the young man. "Please feel free to call me Callisto as well."

Hinata seemed like a kind and gentle individual. Callisto only felt relaxed while talking with him.

"So this is why the eatery is quiet, you're all gathered here like ants," Selly entered the scene, her voice drawing everyone's attention like soldiers to their leader. "The store's already open, you know."

"We're just chatting a little," Lewis explained.

Just then, a customer entered the store. They watched as the man walked straight towards the eatery.

"There's a customer," said Selly, turning back to Lewis and Francis. "Go."

Francis and Lewis nodded.

"Right away, Boss!"

"Yes."

The two said their goodbyes to Callisto as they ran straight towards the convenience store's eatery they were supposed to man together.

Once the two were gone, Hinata and Selly turned to the silver-haired girl.

"I see you already made acquaintances with some of your colleagues," Selly said to Callisto, a small smile tugging her lips. "I hope you can continue on getting along with them from now on."

"Yes."

Selly eyed the young lady up and down.

"You're nervous, huh."

A sheepish chuckle escaped Callisto's lips, her fingers started fiddling with a stray lock of her long hair.

"I'd be lying if I said I'm feeling fine, but..." Callisto let go of her hair as she looked at Selly with a determined gaze. "I'm ready, Boss."

Selly nodded in satisfaction at the young lady's words. It was an answer the boss expected to hear from her new part-time employee the moment she looked at Selly with fiery eyes.

"Hinata," Selly called. "You know what to do, right? I'll leave it to you."

"Yes."

"Good luck with work," Selly imparted to Callisto before leaving the area and going back inside the personnel only room.

Callisto turned to Hinata.

"Now then, let's get familiar with our work, shall we?"

"Yes."

From providing proper customer service...

"Welcome! How may I help you, sir? Like that?"

"Just like that. Also, always make sure to keep a friendly smile when talking or helping out a customer."

"Got it."

... To performing tasks that help keep the store running smoothly and continue to bring satisfaction to all their consumers.

"Keeping the store clean is as important as making sure that all our products are in stock. Therefore, the day shift, us, and the night shift strictly follow a rotating cleaning schedule."

"I see. So now that I'm part of the morning shift, I'm naturally taking over Boss' share of cleaning duties."

"Yes. But since you just started today, your cleaning duty will start with me the day after tomorrow."

"I understand."
