Chapter 8 - The Mission

The flight was very quiet, besides the sounds of the engines outside the cabin. Reaper sat in silence, waiting for their arrival at the drop zone. He had asked Glynda some questions regarding the White Fang, nothing but just things he needs to know. The first question he asked was who was in charge of the White Fang. Glynda answered and Reaper learned the name of the White Fang's leader. Ghira Belladonna, a Faunus and the Chieftain of Menagerie. Hearing the name Menagerie made Reaper think back to his time in beacon's library. From what he could research in the time he had, Menagerie was the land of the Faunus, given to them after the Faunus Rights Revolution ended.

But Reaper wasn't an idiot. He knew why the Faunus were given that land. It was to get rid of them. He knew that Humanity belittles the Faunus, calling them Animals. Racism comes in all shapes and sizes he supposes. No matter the world, no matter the society, it seems like it always exists. Regardless of his personally preferences and opinions, Reaper kept asking questions. Like how long the White Fang has been around for, how many members does it have, can they defend themselves. Those kinds of questions. He did get answers, but he just kept a mental note of them all for later use. All information is useful, especially if you know how to use it. He used to be a man of information back in the day, now he was a man of rage and mistakes.

He looked up from the floor of the cabin and lightly gazed at Glynda who sat professionally while waiting for their arrival at the drop zone. The way she held herself is nothing like the people he used to work with. The aura around her made Reaper feel like she is experienced, yet not fully. What that means is, she hasn't seen War or what War is like in person. A part of him hoped she can hold her own as he didn't see any weapons on her. Just a riding crop which he thought was quite odd. He did know she was a Huntress which meant she knew how to use Aura and Semblance. He still doesn't fully understand what the hell a Semblance is. He does know that it's like a superpower that's unique to each person and Aura is like a personal force field and a manifestation of one's soul, granted them various abilities and leading to a Semblance.

But Semblances aren't unlocked just like that, they take time and circumstances to be unlocked. This is all that Reaper could research about them, and he still cannot believe he is taking this seriously. Superpowers and these fantasy elements are only things you see in fiction. Then again, he is on another world, so he should've expected something like this. After a few more moments of silence, it's broken by the voice of the pilot.

"We just about at the village." The Pilot reports. "I'd get ready to land."

Hearing that both Glynda and Reaper stand up from their seats and moved towards the side door that soon opened on its own. Now able to see the passing trees below, Reaper felt the wind rush into the cabin and the sounds of the thrusters was much louder now. He got a feeling of nostalgia; the many times he's left a dropship to enter a mission zone. He mainly remembered his time in Overwatch instead of his time in Talon. But that time has long since passed, no point in dwelling on the past.

"Remember, we're just here to protect the White Fang, not start a firefight." Glynda said, looking directly at Reaper.

"Very well." is all Reaper said.

As much as he hates this route, he has to accept it. He needs some kind of ally if he's going to survive in this world. Sure, he could always go it alone, but that isn't advantageous for him. He needs resources, resources that Ozpin no doubt has. If he can gain access to those resources, he'd be set. Reaper is removed from his thoughts when he sees the village the mission is located in. It was a fairly small village but large enough to accommodate lot of people. It had a main road going down the middle of the village with a fountain in the center.

Reaper saw a collection of vehicles with Faunus at one end and a crowd of Humans at another end. But Reaper noticed something about the humans. They were armed with rifles and other weapons and some of them wore the same uniform as if they belonged to an Army. They wore black tactical vests, gloves, pants and boots but had red sleeve shirts. They also wore helmets. Glynda failed to notice this, but Reaper kept an eye on them. As the Bullhead descended towards the village to drop off both Reaper and Glynda, the Ex-Overwatch Agent reached for his shotguns and Glynda saw.

"Non-lethal." Glynda said sternly.

Reaper growls angrily while moving his hand away from his weapon. The bullhead hovers above the fountain allowing the two occupants to disembark. Reaper and Glynda jump out of the Bullhead and land in front of the Faunus crowd. The second they landed; the Bullhead made haste and flew away. The mere presence of Reaper made the Faunus scared. He was intimidating to them. He then heard a human behind him talk.

"Huntsmen, finally." The Human Villager said. "Get these animals out of here!"

Glynda turns to the human as did Reaper.

"Your mistaken, we're not here to remove anyone from the premises." Glynda explained. "We're only here to ensure nothing violent happens."

"Then get these animals out of our village!" The same Human Villager shouted.

"They're not causing any harm so I will not." Glynda said.

The human got mad and was about to do something, but a hand grabbed his shoulder. It was one of the Soldier looking humans.

"See? Huntsmen are not reliable anymore." The Soldier said. "If you want something done, do it yourself."

Reaper had an idea what this guy was trying to do. Cause problems. He inched his hands closer to his shotguns, waiting for someone to take the first shot. The other Soldier looking guys all held assault rifles, and they seemed eager for conflict.

"You know what, I think I will." The Human Villager said.

The villager was stopped by the same Soldier.

"No, allow us." The Soldier said.

Reaper then stepped forward.

"You don't want this fight." Reaper said threateningly.

"Oh yeah? Why's that?" The Soldier asked.

"Because you won't live long enough to feel regret." Reaper said ominously.

The Faunus behind Reaper and Glynda backed up before one of them stepped forward.

"Please, we don't want violence. We just want to pass through." The Faunus said.

Reaper turned to them and saw he was a tall man and seemed muscular. Glynda turned to the Faunus.

"Mr. Belladonna, please. Let us handle this." Glynda said.

Mr. Belladonna? So this is either Ghira Belladonna or someone else. Reaper then turns back to the Soldiers when he heard something. He saw the Soldiers aiming their rifles at them. Ghira and the other Faunus gasped at this before Glynda turned to the Soldiers. Her eyes widen.

"I think peaceful negotiation has ended." Reaper said to Glynda.

However, Glynda gave one final attempt.

"Please, there is no need for violence." Glynda said, pleading even.

"We're not listening to a Huntsmen." The Soldier said as he aimed his rifle directly at Glynda.

"Enough of this." Reaper said before he pulled out his shotguns.

"Reaper wait!" Glynda shouted, trying to stop him.

Too late. Reaper shoots once and kills one of the Soldiers instantly. Then a firefight ensues. Bullets start flying and the villagers and Faunus scatter for cover. Glynda raised her riding crop, and the bullets stopped midair, shocking Reaper. Glynda then turned to Ghira.

"Run!" Glynda said.

Ghira and the White Fang rushed behind their vehicles for cover. Reaper then returned fire by pulling the trigger once on each Shotgun. One shot missed but the next one blows the head off another Soldier. Glynda then launches the bullets back and knocks down 2 Soldiers. Reaper then charged forward while shooting his weapons. The Soldiers all trained their rifles onto him and open fire. Reaper weaves around the bullets while returning the gesture. He shoots down one Soldier, then another and then another. Glynda used her Semblance to lift up some of the soldiers into the air before slamming them onto the ground knocking them out.

Reaper spots a soldier that slings his rifle and grabbed a machete and rushed him. Reaper tossed his shotguns aside and dodged the first slash by stepping to the side. He then ducked under another before throwing a punch into the soldier's stomach. This knocked the soldier back and caused them to cough up saliva from the force of the punch. Two more Soldiers rush him with machetes. Reaper heard them charge so he quickly drew out two more shotguns as if magic and blasted them both with a well-placed shot from each shotgun. He then noticed how the remaining Soldiers began to surround him. Once they did, they all aimed their rifles at him.

"Stand down Huntsmen!" One of the Soldiers said. "Your outnumbered."

"I wouldn't say that." Reaper said.

Soon black mist enveloped Reaper and the ground around him. Glynda saw this and guessed it was Reaper's semblance. Reaper then looked at Glynda.

"Take cover, now!" Reaper shouts to her.

Glynda figured he had a plan and did just that, but did hesitate. Reaper then unleashed a wave of black smoke before he began to spin around at superhuman speeds while shooting in every direction. Death Blossom does its job, and he guns down all the Soldiers around him. Bullets go in all directions but thankfully it only hits the Soldiers. He soon stops spinning around and tossed his shotguns to the side as the black smoke and mist subsides. Glynda emerges from cover with wide eyes. The Faunus and villagers emerge from cover as well and see the aftermath of Reaper's rampage.

Around Reaper were the dead bodies of the Soldiers who dared to challenge him. Shaking off her surprise, Glynda hurried over to Ghira and the White Fang.

"Are you all okay?" Glynda asked.

"Yes, we're alright." Ghira said, before looking over to Reaper who was now walking towards them. "Thanks to him."

Glynda followed Ghira's gaze and saw Reaper approaching. Once he arrived, he turned to The Huntress.

"Call in the ship." Reaper ordered.

He then looked at Ghira.

"I suggest you and your people pass through." Reaper said. "Better to leave than stick around."

Ghira, though hesitant, nods. He then turns to the White Fang.

"Everyone in the trucks! We're leaving." Ghira called out.

The White Fang follows his orders, and they begin to board the trucks. Ghira was the last one to get in one of the trucks but once they did, the trucks began moving and passed through the village. Once they left, Glynda called in the Bullhead to pick them up. As she did, Reaper looked at the villagers and they looked at him with fear. Why wouldn't they be scared? Reaper just took down a dozen or so Soldiers all on his own. Well, mostly on his own, Glynda did help. But he then thought about how Ozpin would react to this situation. He doubts he'll gain Ozpin's trust after this which means he needs to do more work.

Oh well, he guesses if that's how it will be, he'll run with it. He can't be picky right now. Eventually the Bullhead returned, and it had to land outside of the village. Once Reaper and Glynda got on it, the ship took off and made its journey back to Beacon Academy.
