The underground museum carefully curated by the middle-aged man, Peter, clearly held more than met the eye.
Under his familiar and practiced guidance, Sato made his way into a chamber filled with numerous Ghost-type Pokémon eggs.
"Although Gastly is the most common Ghost-type Pokémon in Kanto, probably because they're gas-type beings, their chances of laying eggs are much lower than other Ghost-types. Even for me, I've only ever collected about a dozen of them—and honestly, none are all that remarkable," Peter said.
Perhaps thinking the "products" in this section weren't valuable enough to fetch a high price, Peter showed little enthusiasm for this area filled with Ghost-type Pokémon eggs. Even his usual sales pitch was half-hearted.
Sato, however, paid Peter no mind. Carrying the incubator containing the Misdreavus egg, he strolled leisurely through the chamber Peter had designated for storing Ghost-type Pokémon eggs.
For each and every egg here, Sato used the system's scanning ability to carefully assess them, making sure not to overlook even a single Ghost-type Pokémon worth raising.
But just as Peter had said, Gastly eggs were exceptionally scarce here—only eleven in total. Given there were over two hundred eggs in the room, that number was far too low.
Moreover, not a single Gastly egg in the collection met Sato's expectations. The best one barely reached the threshold for purple-grade rating.

Compared to Misdreavus, Sato had much higher standards when selecting a Gastly. That was because Gastly doesn't evolve via Evolution Stone; enhancing its potential is both difficult and costly.
Ideally, Sato was aiming for a top-tier purple-grade Gastly to be worth training. Clearly, the best Gastly egg here fell short of that requirement.
'As expected, things rarely go exactly as we want. Still, being able to obtain that Misdreavus egg was a pleasant surprise. I guess I'll have to set aside the matter of Gastly for now,' Sato thought with a tinge of regret as he finally chose to put down the best Gastly egg in the collection.
Sato's team of Pokémon followed a strict elite standard—and Gastly was one of the core members of his team under his Team Rocket identity. So, given the choice, he would rather go without than settle for mediocrity.
For now, he could only shelve the plan for a high-quality Gastly until after the Team Rocket rookie tournament concluded.
Though this trip to Pokémon hunter Peter hadn't yielded a satisfactory Gastly, Sato knew there were better places in Kanto to find one with high potential—like the famously haunted Lavender Town.
Still, as the saying goes: when the East fails, the West shines. Though the search for a quality Gastly egg proved fruitless, fate had other plans—just like the surprise discovery of the Misdreavus egg.
Originally, once Sato saw that there was nothing else he wanted, he was prepared to leave. But then his old habit kicked in—he couldn't resist using the system to scan through Pokémon data just one more time.
Thinking it wouldn't hurt to enjoy a final pass through the remaining Ghost-type eggs, especially after Peter's sincere urging, Sato found himself staying a little longer.
That's when he struck gold.
Among the Ghost-type eggs he hadn't yet scanned, he discovered a hidden gem—an egg containing a Duskull with a jaw-dropping Overall IV Rating of 184.
And yet, that golden-grade Duskull egg, which looked no different from the others around it, was casually tossed into a dusty corner of the room like a worthless trinket.

The moment Sato saw the golden-grade Duskull egg, his heart rate quickened and his breath grew a bit heavier.
But his acting was flawless—just as when he'd looked over the other Ghost-type eggs, he merely glanced at it briefly, giving Peter no reason to suspect anything.
Of course, discovering such a high-potential Pokémon, Sato had no intention of pretending he hadn't seen it. He planned to quietly find an opportunity to purchase the egg from Peter at a bargain.
Sato had actually spotted another golden-grade Duskull here earlier, but unfortunately, that one was already level 28 and had clearly been around for a long time.
So, he deemed it unwise to try and capture that one.
This egg, however, was a different story. Not only was its potential even higher, but it was still an unhatched egg—a sign of incredible untapped promise.
Sato was deeply familiar with the Duskull line. In fact, the Grimoire of Dark Spirits, Volume I, which he had received from the old village chief in White River Village, contained detailed records on the species.
Once, back at the ferry pier along Route 122 in the Hoenn region, Sato had encountered a powerful Dusclops—a Pokémon that had already begun to harness its innate Black Hole trait.
Through his studies of the Grimoire of Dark Spirits, Sato had developed a thorough understanding of the Duskull line. As a Ghost-type species with formidable defensive power, both of Dusclops/Dusknior's base defensive stats were remarkably high.
Their only notable drawback was their relatively low HP stat, which placed them in the category of high-defense-but-fragile Pokémon.
However, for the Duskull line, that "flaw" could actually be a strength—especially once they learned the move Pain Split.
After all, if the opponent couldn't one-shot a Dusclops/Dusknoir, they'd face the horrifying prospect of it healing back to full repeatedly with Pain Split.
(Note: Pain Split is a Normal-type status move. It adds the user's and target's HP together, then splits the total evenly between them.)
