Chapter 2 - adapting to the new world

"When I opened my eyes again, I wasn't in a blood-filled battlefield but in a huge, luxurious room just like the ones they show in movies

Instead of being modern it felt like I am in some kind of castle ,

As I looked around I found myself lying on a large soft bed.

'Sighs in relief '

'Haah... I'm finally out of that hellish place.'

"Am I still dreaming?" I pinched my cheek. "Ouch! It hurts."

"What the fuck are u doing?" a voice called out from nearby.

I tilted my head to see who it was. Sitting on a chair next to me was a man, his single horn sprouting from the left side of his head, looking at me like I was an idiot.

"Who are u?" I asked, trying to sound serious but probably looking stupid.

"U must have hit ur head if u forgot me," he said with a smirk.

"Even if u did, it's not like there was much inside to begin with." He continued rambling nonsense, but something about his appearance seemed familiar.

'Who the hell is this dude? I feel like I've seen him before, but where?'

I stared at him trying to remember where I have seen him as our eyes met, both of us looking like idiots. Then it hit me. I remembered who he was.

'Rowan Mitchell... the head healer of fortress city Valtoria. He was just an NPC in the game, killed after the tutorial like all the others.'

"Rowan?" I asked to confirm.

"Finally back to ur senses, Dalton?"

'Dalton? Again with this name? First Ethan, now him? Am I really Dalton now? But how?'

'Aaaargh! This is driving me nuts!' I screamed internally, grabbing my hair.

"Now that ur finally awake, let's finish ur treatment," Rowan said, digging through his bag.

A bad feeling crept over me.

He pulled out a huge injection, walking toward me with a wicked smile.

"What do u think ur doing?" I asked, eyeing the needle.

His grin only grew.

"Heh."

'I'm doomed,' I thought as shivers ran down my spine.

"EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK!" My scream was so loud the servants in the garden probably heard it.

"Enjoy ur recovery, Dalton," Rowan said, leaving the room as I lay there, groaning in pain.

"Ouch... Aargh... Damn it, it still hurts."

'This pain is too real to be a dream.'

As I lay in bed, a strange window suddenly appeared in front of me.

"Huh?... What the hell?"

The window showed an interface with details about Dalton.

Name: Dalton Grimsoul

Age: 24

Stats

"This looks exactly like the status window from Hero of Asthia. Am I still dreaming?"

I stared at the screen in disbelief.

'And what are these cringe-ass skill names?'

"And why are my stats so fucking lowwwww!!?" I yelled, clenching my fists while grabbing my hair off and screaming inside my mind "

"Even in the tutorial, the players had double these stats."

'No wonder Dalton is just the tutorial boss with these stats,' I thought, slumping back onto the bed.

After calming down a bit, I focused again on the screen.

'How am I supposed to use this thing?'

"Should I just click on it like in the game?" I muttered.

As I thought about clicking on the 'Skills' option, the window changed, showing more details about the abilities.

BLACK FOG (lvl 3): user releases a huge black fog around his body in which the user and allies can see, but blinding the vision of enemies

Unique Ability:

NIGHT DEMON'S EYE: Allows the user to see the stats of others.

I stared at the screen with a disappointed expression.

'What the hell... Why are there no offensive skills? Urghhh… I need to calm down.'

"Let's see..." I muttered, scrolling through the skills again.

'The first skill, Black Fog, is just a smokescreen. The second, Shadow Leap, is just for mobility. And the last one, the unique ability, is the only useful one since I can at least see my enemies' stats.'

I sighed.

"But this still doesn't make sense. I don't remember seeing or using these skills in the game before. I maxed out everything!"

'Do demons have different abilities than what the players get?'

As I thought about it, it started to make sense.

'Now that I think about it, every boss in the game had unique skills and attacks.'

"That explains things a bit."

I glanced out of the huge window in the bedchamber, seeing a massive wall surrounding the city ,

The wall and the city as I looked at them were really in a poor state

"So, this is Valtoria, huh?"

A few days passed, and I was still in my room, trying to remember and write down all the important events what will take palace in future while learning about my skills and the window .

Meanwhile, Ethan was in his office which was in a complete mess filled with documents lying everywhere, sitting with Rowan face to face over tea.

"Hey Ethan, something feels off," Rowan said, sipping his tea.

"Eh? What do u mean?" Ethan replied, raising an eyebrow.

"I mean Dalton. He's been way too quiet since the battle ended."

"Quiet like how? I don't see anything strange is going on."

Rowan grabbed a cookie from the plate and took a bite.

"Munch... Tsk... I mean, he hasn't picked a fight with anyone. Chew... He's just cooped up in his room."

"Finish eating the cookie first, then say what u want to say," Ethan replied, shaking his head.

Rowan swallowed. "What I mean is, it's unlike him to be this quiet."

"Isn't that a good thing?" Ethan asked, looking confused.

"I don't think so. I've got a bad feeling about this," Rowan said, his expression turning serious.
