Feel Pokémon's wishes and moods, and build a common goal for yourself and Pokémon on this basis. When both parties are fighting for this goal, the wills between Pokémon and Trainer will be highly aligned.
When emotions reach the same frequency, Mega Evolution can unfold.
At the same time, this is also an excellent way to strengthen bonds.
This is the method taught to Chris by Teacher Vladimir, which can achieve the effect quickly. However, Vladimir also warned Chris that haste makes waste.
"Common goals... So, Gardevoir, do you have any goals?" Chris leaned on the sofa and asked Gardevoir.
"Gardevoir?" Gardevoir was pouring tea for Chris. When she heard his question, she frowned and thought for a while before shaking her head slightly.
"No?" Chris scratched his head nervously.
He glanced sideways at Togepi and Wobbuffet, who were "competing."
If Wobbuffet could evolve into Mega Wobbuffet, I could play a challenging game with it. Together, we'd overcome obstacles and finally face an incredibly powerful boss. Just as we're about to lose, it undergoes Mega Evolution!
Chris already had the whole script in mind.
Unfortunately, this method wouldn't work for Gardevoir, who wasn't interested in playing games, even though she occasionally watched Togepi and Wobbuffet play.
Tea art?
Chris looked at the teapot in Gardevoir's hand.
That's probably it. Gardevoir learned tea art because she loves tea.
But what else?
Chris felt a headache coming on.
Rubbing his hair, he grew frustrated. Back when he had the Mega Evolution Stone but not the Mega Ring, he desperately wanted the ring. Now that he had both, he couldn't perform Mega Evolution. It felt like sitting atop a mountain of gold but being unable to make use of it.
Forget it. If I can't think of something now, I won't force it. This will come later, after I've met the bond requirements for Mega Evolution.
First, I need to cultivate a bond between myself and Gardevoir.
Building bonds is mysterious. I don't even know the current level of my bond with Gardevoir. Nor do I know how close we are to the next level.
It would be great if I could see the bond level between myself and my Pokémon as specific values.
Wait!
Specific values? Chris suddenly had an idea.
Maybe the concept of a "bond" could be expressed with another term.
Friendship!
Chris jumped off the sofa.
Friendship and bonds are closely related concepts. In fact, the ways to increase Friendship are the same as those for building bonds.
Although the games don't directly reference "bonds," they do include Friendship, which impacts the evolution of certain Pokémon and the power of specific moves.
Even if Friendship isn't an exact measure of bonds, it should give a rough idea of the relationship between me and my Pokémon, right?
Time to find out!
Chris quickly pulled out his handheld console.
To check Friendship in the Hoenn region, you needed to go to Verdanturf Town. For Kalos, if memory served, the Pokémon Fan Club in Laverre City was the place.
Chris flew to Lumiose City on Flygon and headed north.
First, he passed through Route 14.
Without delay, he arrived at Laverre City and found a female NPC in green at the Pokémon Fan Club.
Talking to her would reveal the current level of Friendship between him and his Pokémon.
"Fortunately, when I played Pokémon X/Y, I used to train an Espeon, so I didn't miss the details." Chris felt relieved that he still remembered. Otherwise, having just arrived in the Kalos region, he might have had to fly back tonight to check.
He guided the protagonist forward to speak with the girl in green.
The NPC wouldn't provide the exact Friendship value, but from her responses, Chris could gauge the approximate level of Friendship.
The Friendship scale ranged from 0 to 255, with wild-caught Pokémon starting at around 70 and Pokémon hatched from eggs at 120.
The NPC's responses divided the Friendship range into seven levels:
250+: It's amazingly friendly toward you! It must be so happy spending every day with you!
200-249: You must really like your pokémon and always keep it by your side!
150-199: Well, I think you and Your partner will be an even greater combo someday!
100-149: It's a little bit Friendly to you... Something like that.
50-99: Hmm...I think you have a lot of time ahead of you to get to know one another better -
1-49: You aren't getting along, are you? It's glaring at you with a look that's kinda scary
0 : Don't tell me! Are you just letting it get knocked out in Pokémon battles?!
Chris started by checking Flygon. Since it was his primary Pokémon for flying, it had naturally developed some affection.
He then looked at Wobbuffet, which was playing a game nearby.
**[Girl in Green]: Well, I think you and your partner will make a great combination.**
This placed Wobbuffet's Friendship at the 150–199 range.
"Not bad," Chris thought. "After all, Wobbuffet was hatched from an egg, starting with an initial Friendship of 120."
Next, Chris checked Blaziken, his first Pokémon. He hadn't needed to do much to strengthen their bond, as it had been with him from the start.
**[Girl in Green]: You must really like your pokémon and always keep it by your side!!**
The Friendship range was now 200–254.
"It's not far from maxing out!" Chris exclaimed. As expected, the earlier a Pokémon joined, the higher its bond over time. He figured Greninja and Gardevoir might show similar results.
If Friendship truly represented the bond required for Mega Evolution, then Blaziken was nearly ready.
Sadly, Chris didn't have Blaziken's Mega Evolution Stone, making it impossible to test.
Finally, Chris placed Gardevoir in the first slot and spoke to the girl in green.
**[Girl in Green]: It's amazingly friendly toward you! It must be so happy spending everyday with you!**
"This answer… It's the 250+?!" Chris exclaimed in surprise.
