Chapter 341 - Chapter 341: The Spy Trap

As Lacus was still going to have dinner with He Kui's parents, Lika, who was following He Kui, couldn't help but poke Iron Wall beside her.

"Has Miss Lacus had dinner with Chairman Zala again?"

"Maybe in the past, but I don't think so now," Iron Wall replied after thinking for a moment.

Since the two families had their political differences, they rarely interacted.

Previously, Athrun's mother would occasionally visit Lacus, but as they grew older and with the increase in internal terrorist attacks, such visits had become infrequent.

"I think you might as well just give the engagement to He Kui."

"Well, that still needs Chairman Zala's approval."

"I was just joking!!"

Hearing Iron Wall's serious response, Lika quickly added.

"I certainly know you were joking."

A look of exasperation appeared on Iron Wall's honest face.

"Oh, I see. You usually seem so serious that I thought you wouldn't joke around."

While the two were talking, in He Kui's home, the main character He Kui was also conversing with his parents.

"Miss Lacus is really a good person."

At this moment, his father was still sighing, while his mother was watching him warily.

"But why does Miss Lacus want to come here?"

If it were said that Lacus happened to be downstairs for an event in May City and came to chat with them, that would make sense.

But now, coming directly to their home was hard to explain.

"That's Zala's fiancée; don't mess around."

He Kui's mother was not happy but rather scared at this moment.

Cagalli was one thing; she didn't know the details, but Lacus was the princess of PLANT and Chairman Zala's son's fiancée.

If He Kui made a move, just thinking about it made her feel a bit suffocated.

Lacus was a revered figure; they simply couldn't accommodate her.

"Hahaha, how could that be? How could Lacus possibly take a liking to our family?"

His father laughed heartily.

"Yeah, that's true."

Hearing this, He Kui's mother genuinely relaxed a bit.

Listening to their conversation, He Kui's mouth twitched.

Was he really their biological child? After all, he was one of the directors of the Integrated Design Bureau and a technical advisor to the National Defense Committee.

Although he seemed a bit lacking compared to Lacus.

But with a bit more effort, it should be possible, right?

At least if it were just the Speaker, it would be a hassle, and he didn't want to deal with such a big place.

The weather in May City was still spring-like all year round. After driving from the port to the design bureau, He Kui got out of the car and was once again filled with the familiar smell of metal and disinfectant from the design bureau.

It didn't smell great, but after getting used to it, it felt somewhat familiar.

"Director He, you finally arrived."

Hoss came over to greet him in front of the design bureau.

However, upon seeing Meiling following behind him, he paused for a moment, but since Meiling was his secretary, it wasn't too strange.

"What's wrong?"

He Kui asked casually.

"Your Nano Project has several people applying to join; here are the materials."

Although a batch of A-level personnel had been added to help manufacture Nano Machines, they still didn't have enough manpower. After all, to mass-produce them by hand, adding B and C levels would make things much simpler.

"So many people were filtered out?"

Looking at the several marks inside, He Kui sighed.

"Most of them are commercial spies from other companies, a small portion are unqualified applicants, and a few are said to be real Blue Cosmos spies."

Hoss lowered his voice and whispered in his ear.

"Weren't a batch already filtered out before?"

Previously, He Kui had sent a lot of spy information to PLANT all at once.

So it had been quiet for a while.

He didn't expect that there would be more now.

"These are new hires who haven't been here long. I heard they mixed the hiring time with the applications and found so many."

"If that's the case, then you are quite the hero."

Hoss's tone carried a hint of teasing.

"That works too."

It sounded as if they were deliberately waiting at the concert entrance to catch fugitives.

He Kui hadn't expected his project to be so attractive.

"Of course it works. Although this project doesn't explicitly state what it is, just your reputation alone makes countless spies want to investigate."

Hoss's exaggerated expression successfully made Meiling behind him laugh out loud.

As the two turned to look at her, Meiling quickly blushed and suppressed her laughter.

He Kui wasn't clear on how many spies his project had caught.

But it was easy to imagine that he was definitely a hot commodity for spies right now.

The danger level was skyrocketing, and of course, his protection level was also increasing exponentially.

Now even the supply personnel coming in and out were from ZAFT's Special Operations Team.

He was practically a national treasure.

Not to mention that the quality of the vehicles used for travel was also on par with those assigned to members of parliament.

Unless a whole MS Force was deployed, it would be very difficult for anyone to assassinate him with just manpower.

As He Kui chatted with Hoss, they soon arrived at the nano-manufacturing laboratory.

However, this place was more like a factory assembly line than a laboratory, with many people enthusiastically processing Nano Machines.

Some sharp-eyed individuals noticed He Kui's arrival and wanted to salute, but they were all stopped by He Kui raising his hand.

This processing area was already quite complete, and with sufficient production lines, a Coordinator could produce a hundred nanorobots in a day.

And a Mobile Suit could be controlled on a large scale with about three thousand, meaning that a new Mobile Suit could be armed in just a month.

A month isn't too short, but it's definitely not long either.

At the very least, it should be possible to manufacture it before the Neutron Jammer.

As for whether to place it on the Liberator or to build a new Mobile Suit, there was still no conclusion.

Gradually, as He Kui moved around, more and more people began to notice him.

Word spread quickly, and the entire assembly line temporarily came to a halt.

"You're doing great; I'm just here to take a look, so please continue."

He Kui smiled lightly at everyone.

"Yes!!!"

A chorus of loud and overlapping voices echoed in the laboratory.

At this moment, He Kui's prestige in the design bureau was evident.

The design bureau was subtly showing signs of becoming He Kui's territory.

Of course, they wouldn't let him take this place independent.

And he didn't have the capability to take the entire design bureau independent either.

After encouraging the many operators once more, He Kui returned with Hoss to his office, which seemed to be gathering dust.
